    I definitely agree- passively looking at information gives you the illusion of learning. Active recall actually shows u how much you know although its more painful lol

    1. skim through chapter
    2. read and write down questions
    3. try to answer questions, by getting a question wrong, you’ll get to know where to focus. „I need to get 20, 30 questions wrong for this study sesh“
    4. have a schedule when studying, set priorities on topics that r harder for u

    one of the biggest tips i can give anyone studying accountant is ask your teacher for tips. with this I mean ask them which chapter you must focus more on. because we all know studying 15 + chapters sucks when the teacher will only ask 5 chapters or 6. at least this way you know hey I have to focus on this more than that. now yea I realize that not all teachers will be willing to tell you this but if you ask they will help you especially if they can see your actually trying your best.

    In the next few weeks, I will already become a freshman college here in the Philippines; and as an accountancy student, I definitely agree that active recall is one of the best techniques to retain as much information as possible with less effort! As I study in advance, I realize that acc is full of technical terms and jargons - hence, this method of studying is really helpful because it allows us to have a strong foundation and understanding of what we are reading (especially when we use our own words when explaining). Personally, I use Excel as my active recall program because you can separate each chapter through sheets. Either way, I just wanna say that your video is very helpful and well put! I hope your channel will grow fast, good luck and God bless!!!

    Thank you, I’ll be doing these steps. I was searching for videos for how non-science majors can use active recall. I’m just starting the accounting courses I have to take for an information systems degree. There’s so much information in each chapter plus lecture notes and powerpoints that I need a system to learn effectively and pass. I’ll check out your other videos too.

I hope this video helps, because i have trouble reading, and i cant read on paper that well, thats why I am taking online classes. I am doing accounting online, and I am nervous how it is going to be than in person. Please do a video on showing what real accounting homework looks like. Can you give me more advice on doing well on Accounting classes and Accounting homework online? That will be very beneficial to me. Thank you

    My issue has always been that the format of the textbook questions do not resemble the exam questions...so that messed me up

    • @calvinator94
      @calvinator94  3 роки тому +3

      That’s fair. In that case I’d really press the prof on exam question format

    I have a question, can we just use the questions at the back of many chapters to do the active recall? Why do we have to come up with our own questions for it to work? Thanks for the video!

    • @calvinator94
      @calvinator94  3 роки тому +1

      Yep you can absolutely do the questions at the back of the chapter. In fact, if your prof is highlighting certain end-of-the-chapter questions, then I 100% would be using those questions.
      It really depends on the material, not all profs teach off of those questions so I would use your own discretion in shaping your study questions /methods for your classes.

    When you make the questions is it then that you are going into the chapter in deep? Like after u skim do you go back and actually read the chapter to make the questions?

  • @Levi-cy9th
    @Levi-cy9th 3 роки тому +2

    Great video but I do have a question? When writing the questions after skiming the topic how then will u be able to answer the question you wrote down without actually reading the new topic in details,or do u just try answering the questions and then go back to the answer and learn them if u couldn't answer them on the first try.

    • @calvinator94
      @calvinator94  3 роки тому +2

      Great question. I might not have explained this part well in the video - I write the question and I also write the answer either next to it, or in a collapsible bullet point underneath (I use Notion for this). That way I can cover up the answer and try to answer the question but if I can’t remember the answer I can quickly look and see (instead of having to dig through the chapter). Hope that helps!

    • @Levi-cy9th
      @Levi-cy9th 3 роки тому +1

      @@calvinator94 thanks for your quick response,it was helpful,however what I was trying to say is in the case where you are reading a new topic for the first time without having any prior knowledge about that topic it would be impossible to answer any questions you set from that topic at first read and since you said that we should skim the materials instead of reading the topic in details it is 100% possible not to get the answer at first so you now learn from the answer you wrote alongside the question am I correct?
