I love that the Sega Saturn is getting the love it deserves, there are so many options for ODEs and ways to play games beside using the original discs. My favorite has to be the Satiator because of its ease of use, but the Fenrir looks like a good option.
Yeah, as long as they play the games properly its all good :) I have not read up on the Satiator yet, I will check out some reviews as I have another Saturn that I might upgrade for a friend.
He was born in London so we have some similarities there. It might depend what film/show you are watching, he does do different accents, but I don't think I sound like him?
I noticed you have the English Patched version of Dragon Force 2. Did you try playing it? That's the main game I would do this mod for. What size SD card did you use?
Great video, i just got my fenrir duo it’s working great except that I’m having an issue where some times when I power on it skips the game menu and goes to the settings screen instead and act as if I still have a disc drive in it. Then try searching for a disc do you know what could possibly be causing this problem?
I haven't had this issue myself. You could ask in the Fenrir discord channel at discord.gg/5Nsu5YJhjv The developers and many owners of the Fenrir are there, so one of them will know the issue. Hope that helps.
It will work on all models including V-Saturn, Hi-Saturn and Tectoy. The Duo supports both 20 and 21 pin connections and includes ribbon cables for them.
I just installed mine but it won't play 3/4th of the games that it did by cd. I have the firmware file on the microsd, I can pick the games but only 1 out of 5 play. Anyone known why this might be happening?
I havent had any issues with compatibility from what I remember. My guess it would be the CD images are bad. Try downloading from another source and see if that fixes it.
@RetroGamingBanter the lord doth answer mein prays. Someone on Reddit invited me to the fenrir discord and a guy had me fixed in about 20 minutes. I abandoned the two micro 64gb sd's and bought a new 128, and he had me download the firmware, not the one that fenrir has on the website, one that's 4 months newer and possibly by the creator. Every single game works now praise his name. 🙏
you don't mention games like king of fighters 95 which need 1mb'4mb to load? does the 4in1 black pseudo kai cartridge work with those games on the fenrir duo?
Pseudo Saturn Kai doesn't use any of the RAM part of the cart, so it is still available for games to use. If I remember right the save part of the cart is not available, but you can save to internal and then back it up/restore with Fenrir if needed.
@@filevans I bought it in UK from ZedLabz www.zedlabz.com/products/fenrir-duo-optical-drive-emulator-for-sega-saturn-sd-adapter-pcb-board-zedlabz so I didn't import it etc. For other sellers around the world check out the homepage at www.fenrir-ode.fr/
www.fenrir-ode.fr/screenshots.html the pack is there, you may need to rename the images to match the game files. Theres a program on the page to do it as well.
Fenrir Duo paired with a Pseudo Saturn Kai cart is unbeatable.
Great video man. I really appreciate that you're right to the point.
Glad you enjoyed it!

@@duffmann2 I am using a 128GB Sandisk. It supports up to the largest 1TB micro SD card, but it does need to be formatted to FAT32 to use.
@@RetroGamingBanter can you recommend anywhere to buy a good price micro sd? thanks
Card links are in description.
Thanks so much. Very good overview!
Thanks, much appreciated! Please subscribe if you haven't already and we will keep making videos.
Excellent video. To the point and informative.
Thanks, much appreciated!

What size SD card did you use?
I used a 128GB card. I did not have a larger card on hand to try but it should be able to do 256GB and 512GB
Fenrir Duo is not expensive at all. $130 is cheap considering what I can do
is this ODE model specific? I learned with the PS1 ODE it took specific versions of the PS1 to work..
This model works with both 20 and 21 pins, as far as I know it works with all.

Do you know if Fenrir Duo will work in all Saturn models, including the Japanese region console?

@@C3phoe Great to hear it is working now!
i know this is old but i hope someone can answer me. can we use a normal action replay with this? or does it have to be the psuedo kai one??
I believe you can still use a normal action replay cart for cheats etc.

@@RetroGamingBanter thanks was there customs duty to pay? and was it straightforward?

@@RetroGamingBanter it looks good as the satiator is far too expensive, plus import duty and courier's fees to collect the tax on top
Does this make the Ram Cart obsolete besides wanting to use it only for Cheats?
To an extent yes. I believe you can still use it as a RAM cart. So the cart is not a requirement, but a nice companion for the Fenrir.
Im interested on buying one, where can I buy it?

any idea how to put game cover artwork on the menu?

@@RetroGamingBanter i was hoping for actual game covers
You could download the covers, convert to .jpg and then rename the file to match the game files.
Will this work on a japanese sega saturn console?
I don't see why it would not work. It replaces the CD drive part which should be exactly the same as other models.
