Hitting hard tonight... I just buried my best friend for the last 13 years and best chocolate lab ever last night. It's the day every dog owner knows is coming but nothing can truly prepare us for it. Godspeed Rufus and Ruger!!
At 48 years old, I have had to put 3 best friends down over the years. Sadly, I don't think I have it in me to ever do that again. It's been 2 years now since my Lily has passed and although the wife an I miss the companionship, we just can't ever see us getting another dog. It truly is like losing a family member. But you are absolutely right, "It's the day every dog owner knows is coming but nothing can truly prepare us for it."
Red Poppy Ranch thank you for the kind words. He'll be missed terribly but the time spent with him over the years makes it all worth it. Thank you again for the sentiment.
@Jay M...All Well Said. I've learned 'the hard way' to 'retire' my service dogs after 7-9 years of service/companionship. Far less painful that way. They get to spend their 'twilight years' in an even more pampered environment and I can move on with fewer tears. God Bless...~Eli.
@@jaym1244 hi jay m Its 7am in the uk where I live, I've just watched red poppy ranch in bed hugging my 2 dogs before I start my day. They're numers 6 and 7 of the best friends I've had over the years. Whenever a dog lover like you and I gets to the point where they feel they couldn't go through the loss again, I urge them to give a dog an amazing home, love and be unconditionally loved back in return, be outside, exercising in nature every day, meeting up with other animal lovers and furry friends on walks. It's heart breaking that we only get a small amount of time that flies by so quickly, but being an animal lover is a life long gift that is beneficial to both parties. Some I win, some I lose. Love and best wishes to you 💚❤💙💜💛
How lovely of your friend and it’s a wonderful memorial. I love the way Bandit stood back while you placed the memorial, then went and paid his respects. He’s a good dog!
India, I saw that too & actually was overwhelmed with emotion watching the interaction of Bandit with Heath! He was by his side until he was walking up the little hill & stayed behind. No matter how many times Heath left & came back Bandit was by his side up to that point. When he knew Heath was done he finally went up & paid his respect to Ruger! I at that point realized that I had tears falling because I just witnessed a very special bond with Bandit and Heath as well as a moment of reassurance from Bandit to Ruger! I don't know how many people even realized it but I feel honored that I was one to witness it!
@Darlene Douglas I filmed some of that and was choking back the tears watching Bandit, like he knew what was going on. It was a sweet experience. ~Cedar
Good evening, I am. 54 and disabled until 6 years ago when I got sick we had the same idea to build a small place in northern Nevada. But now I have been living my dream of building through watching you. Six months ago I lost my best friend of 40 years and your videos have helped me because you and my friend were cut from the same mold.So thank you and don't let the people that write mean stuff get to you because most likely they are just jealous of what you have done.Remember keep the dream.
I think the mean people in this world have a purpose to remind us to first, of their existence (defense) and second, to treasure and appreciate the good ones.
As for the negative comments, just remember for every one there are at least a hundred good, kind, and friendly ones. I learned that working at Home Depot after I retired from my regular job of many years. Home Depot was my first job in retail and with the public. After fifty nine years working I got to meet mr. and mrs public. What a shock but I loved it. Thanks for the videos, they are great.
Daniel - great comment, and so surprisingly true. Here now we think we are such an advanced species, but when one works a job where one meets Mr. & Mrs. & Mz. (ext) Public, we see that we are still a bunch of rather crude animals.
@@yanbu000 I am watching your videos here living in in istanbul Turkey, what you did is so impressive that I can't admire enough. You are a good man and dad. Negativism is more contagious than the Corona virus regardless of nation and religion, anyway sooner or later the word will come around. Thank you for sharing your journey.
My cat died four month ago - in 5 minutes from ok to dead - with a hugh fight for her life. Had a stroke or thrombosis - couldn't breath anymore - at 04:30 am - no chance or time to get her to a vet. Because she was an indoor cat there couldn't be anything like poison.
I rarely ever cry, but that goes out the window when a pet passes. My pets are my kids and my family. It’s one of the purest relationships a person can experience. It’s the definition of unconditional love. Words can’t say enough. God bless Rufus 🙏. He will always be in your heart.
I'm sorry you lost Ruger, and I'm glad Bandit is making a new place within your family. We live a bit south of you guys, and it's crazy seeing how the same storm hits you guys so much worse! Anyway, thank you for documenting your journey for us, I always look forward to your videos. Have a blessed week.
I dont ever leave comments but I want you to know that watching you and your family, gave me and my family the courage to follow our own dream. We now live off grid in Oklahoma and have never been happier. My thanks to you and Cedar for sharing your journey, both ups and downs.
RIP Ruger. I lost my dog Rosie of 15 years April 14th 2017. She was a white lab with so much love in her, was a friend to everyone. Since January of ‘07 I had open heart surgery at 37. My Rosie was by my side everyday since then. I had my second surgery in January of ‘13, this one put me down hard at 43. Rosie was my little rock that kept me together. Since she’s been gone its just not the same. I miss her so much. A dog is really a mans best friend!!!
I spoil my two dogs dreadfully as one is 18 and deaf as a post. Every day with him is a blessing as I know his departure date is fast approaching. Just writing this has tears in my eyes. Rest in peace Ruger you beautiful creature.
A lot of people doesn't understand the Love of a pet to it's owner and from the owner to their pet, I grieve everyday for our Boston Terrier that we lost in 2014, I loved him with everything I had in me, We have another Boston now and I love her dearly, She is a Rescue, I look forward to all of your video's, Sir you are an inspiration to me. The work you do and your video's show it. Thank You
Good afternoon from Adelaide south Australia. I lost my girl Bridget a Pomeranian 2yrs ago and I still can't look at a photo without deep sorrow. We were both disabled and well matched and loved nothing more than touring the neighbourhood on our scooter.
This episode is maybe one that resonates the most with me and perhaps many others here who have enjoyed the selfless companionship of a dog and felt the bitter pain of loss. There's nothing weak about showing grief... it shows your compassion and humanity.
I've said this before, "I rarely comment" but, I've commented more on your channel, than all others I've followed over the years, combined. I understand the pain of losing your best friend, that's of the four legged variety. And that pain is very real. You lost a family member... Marty and Lee must be very special people. I commend them for this act of love. It took me 5 years to be able to find another four legged best friend, after losing mine, of almost 17 years. His loyalty was the epitome of unconditional love. He was standoffish as was Ruger, but knew when I needed some comfort. I believe there truly is a "rainbow bridge". You are a man after my own soul, a problem solver. I've watched you come through everything that's been thrown at you over the years. You will do the same now. This first year is a learning curve, and you will learn well. I've rambled way too long... God Bless you, your family, and Red Poppy Ranch.
@@RedPoppyRanch I got him when he was 8 weeks old - he was with me 24/7 for several years until he reached maturity, and accepted he was not the Alpha male. I had him in my life from my 20's, into my 40's. He was a hybrid, Siberian Husky/Timberwolf. He was the most gentle, soft mouthed dog I've ever seen for a 100 pound animal. But would aggressively protect my family and myself from whatever he felt was a threat. His name was Steppenwolf, We called him Step. He too crossed that "Rainbow Bridge". And yes, we were Blessed to have him for 16 years, 8 months. I just watched this video again, and got teary eyed all over... Looks like I'm not going to be able to say I rarely comment anymore! Ha! Build that windmill. I look forward to your next video!
I am a big (6'4") 53 y/o man, and today I cried silent tears with you as you spoke of Ruger , the number of attempts to record the truck portion of the video. My dogs ARE family. I love your videos . You have done a great job , I can hear the influence of Dick Proenneke in your videos. Thank you so much for what you're doing.
That’s quite a special gift.I don’t think there’s any shame in shedding tears over a dog an sidekick.Mr Poppey I think it shows that you have a caring heart an Ruger was more than a dog he was you partner on some long days at the ranch.God Bless
My son is a Vet with PTSD and has a special trained dog for his condition he’s had him for less than a year but I can see a great improvement it does wonders for his anxiety. Dogs are so smart and tuned into our emotions. Your Ruger sounds like he was just what you needed. Sorry for your loss.
Thanks to Marty and Lee for helping do the right thing; Memories can be shared, as well as Grief? Losing one of your best friends is never easy. I pray for you and your loss. Backup generators are good, to have two is better; but as you already know, the wind generator as a primary secondary backup is the best? Your having a supporting family is great; you putting their safety and comfort is obvious, even to me, from your videos. Thanks for sharing. Peace, Long Life, and Health to all.
That's why any yard sale, any garage sale, or any other kind, you always buy nice old candle holders, and every dollar store you look for long-burn( 5 hr. or better) candle packs, and yep, been there. Was a touching thing they did having that headstone made, and you have to remember the good times, and celebrate having good things in your life. Still miss my big dog, who I was blessed to have w/me for 13 yrs., and who was the best friend I could ever have. And yes, you need to get some wind gens up, even if it's not at the height you want it through this winter, it will still produce in that bad weather that's hitting often right now, and just say the word if you want some links. Loved seeing the kids get interested in that finishing, especially your little girl, as females who get into doing it can do the best finishing imo. Hope this finds you all well, together you all can do anything, remember that.
For some strange reason I love the view coming up your road and turning to your nice gravel drive. Thanks again for a great escape to red poppy ranch!!!
What a kind gesture ❤️ I'm sorry for your lost. Time will heal the pain but he will always stay in your heart for the special friend he was. Said goodbye to my old girl this year... 14 years is good but way to short to let her go I have two new baby's now but it doesn't mean I don't think of her all the time.
So sorry about Ruger, we all miss him too. After watching and listening to your life for the last 2 years, I myself and many others feel like we know you and knew Ruger also. That stone gift is a great way to remember and show the love you have for your "best friend". God bless you and your family.
Only had one dog in my 68 years, could not bring myself to get another.I swear that ole' shadydog could read my mind! I have and will always miss him and retain my fond memories.
This video sure touched me. So often I think of my best friend. His name was Curzon and he shared my life for 14 and a half years. I have so many fond memories of him. It's good to remember.
I rarely comment, but recently I have found the need to compliment the men and their families that I admire on The UA-cam channels I watch and you sir are one of them. Out doors with the Morgan’s and Buckin’ Billy Ray channels are the others, because we seem to share similar values and interests. In my mind the greatest compliment I can give is “you are a good man”. In this day and time when we find the world in such division, especially in our own country, it is a breath of fresh air for me to view your videos. So please, keep them coming, include your great family and always put them first.
Hello from Washington. For the last year or so I along with my wife and two kids have been developing our homestead. We are living in our travel trailer while we build. The house is dried in and I am working on it as fast as I have time and finances. It's certainly a daunting project, but I love it. I came across your channel a few months ago and recently started watching some of your earlier videos as well. I am on grid and homesteading on farm land, as well as building a very different style home. Our situations are a little different, so I don't watch for a lot of technical pointers. I want to say though that your videos are inspiring and encouraging. As I struggle through with my project It really helps to see someone who's genuinly making it work. Thank you.
That's more like it Heath! I think you have a great community following your adventures, focus more on all the positive vibes you get compared to the small negatives. You've put yourself and your family on a spotlight by being on youtube, it's impossible to like all the comments you get.
Ruger was the best friend to man. Your videos are good with emotion and feeling's. Don't let anyone throw shade at you. You are doing great for your family Boss!!!! I'm 48 and feel like the worst thing I ever did was not have kids of my own. Love seeing videos of real men taking care of there family's!!! On east coast we are getting rain bad hope you make out better than us here in Maryland!!!
I teared up watching this brought back memories of Charlie German Shepherd he was 14 I was on the way to the vet to put him down when I got hit by 18 wheeler and became handicap was not a good day so in essence never be a shame to shed a tear over with your hearts feeling the realness and the trueness of your videos is what makes them so addicting God bless you and Godspeed
I've had two sweet Labrador's pass since I discovered Red Poppy Ranch... and like all those who leave us, it takes time to talk about it, and in this case with your family being on You Tube it must be terribly hard. I loved watching Ruger ride in your truck... it made those videos. I hope one day you get another sidekick who likes riding shotgun. It's those videos that your stories become alive as you talk while you drive.
When we lost our dog of 16 years, I was nearly inconsolable. My kids, now adults, grew up with our dog. I poured through the many years of pictures and created a photo book from an on-line photo place that I use for prints, waiting for their 50% off sale. While doing this, I realized that the memorial book was really family album with interactions of our dog, seeing the changes in our kids and home through the years. I decided to make one tailored for each of my kids because they were sad too. That process got me through my grief, enough to keep my emotions manageable. I'm so glad I did that. Each of the "kids" love their book, too. I entitled the book "It's a Wonderful (Dog's) Life".
How ironic Bandit shows up when you placed down the headstone for Ruger. It almost appears Bandit was paying his respects. Dogs TRULY are man's best friend!
Losing a dog is terrible. I’ve been there before. Took me 2 years before I thought I was ready for a dog again. It’s been 3 years and I don’t have one yet but hopefully sometime soon I will get one. You are an incredible father to your incredible family. Can’t wait to continue to watch your story.
Man thank you for sharing this true blessing with us. My wife and I look up to you guys a lot. Even tho I think I am a few years older than you. Love you guys as my brothers and sisters in Christ. God Bless
Blessings to you and your family. Thank you for your rich content and sharing your life experiences with us who have lived our lives and now enjoy someone else’s journey. We appreciate and always enjoy what is said and what we see. After following you for the last 1 1/2 yrs, now my wife has joined the video club and so enjoys you both. Your wife is like mine, has and does put up with a “different life” because of my convictions and abnormal behavior.
I lost my best friend 12 years ago a border collie named Spanky. Still miss him so much. I have a not so new best friend, Scotty, another Border Collie who is almost 11. I will grieve when he is gone, but can't imagine life without that kind of love.
I have had seven dogs in my lifetime and I loved each and every one of them and each one was special in their own way because of my age I will not have another dog but I still have a big love for dogs so I know what you went through and what you're going through I salute you my friend
What a precious kindness, in love and kindness we learn humility and our need for each other. You are so blessed to have wise friends to walk life out with.
A gift from a man with a giant heart to a man with a equally great heart.. A beautiful stone for a fury friend. What a big thing to do, and i am tearing up for the heart in the gift and to see your emotions. Thanx for sharing, as always.
I am so sorry for the loss of Ruger. I am a headstone maker in your area I would have gladly given you a memorial for free if I would have known he had passed. I love the videos. Thank you for all you do?
There is no greater love than that of a dog. I'm an Australian Afghanistan veteran and current serving Police Officer. My dog helps me forget all of the horrible things I see and have seen over the years. RIP Ruger.
I cried watching this. Thank you for sharing, your message holds great meaning to me. Me and my cat love sitting and watch your videos with breakfast! I love seeing you kitties so happy and cute! Keep up the good work! Paving the way to a great life
I'm happy that you guys are in the home you built and no matter the inconveniences right now, you all are going to make one helluva Ranch there! It must feel somethin awfully wonderful to have your family alive and well with you huddled around the television or just helping about the house with minor projects! But you did call it. Yup. You said you'd have the winter months to do all the indoor stuff! I hope for the best for you and your family. May your joys be made full. Amen! 💯✔️❤️
Love how the black and white posse (Bandit and the kitten) come to supervise new arrivals and stick for the homestead. Glad you were able to trial the energy setup before the full fury of a tough winter. You have no idea how much you educate many of your followers given we live in vastly different climates.
I have some experience "living on solar." When I heard you start describing your electrical supply challenges, I was thinking: "he needs a generator backup, preferably propane." You are headed in the right direction. The real challenge now is to find a charger that will quickly and efficiently recharge your battery bank from the generator. These are not as common as people might expect as most chargers are designed to prevent damage to the batteries through over-charging rather than to charge batteries efficiently yet safely. I've learned that thinking: "I'm living with a solar system." isn't the best mindset. More accurately, you're living on a battery bank. Solar is only one of the charging systems. I enjoy your videos. I'm glad that you appreciate that supportive viewers are the majority and wish I could tell you how to ignore the critics. You are doing great! BTW, I never thought you were a tough guy. Strong? yes! Best wishes and good luck to you but I don't honestly think you need it.
@@RenaissanceThinking, While a case could be made for any of those solutions, I would be looking for the most practical, reliable and economical way to get through a few extended periods each year when there would be little or no solar energy production. Over the long term, a generator will fill those gaps better and at less cost than increasing the size of the battery bank and solar system by 3-400% so he could keep the lights on through the two or three weeks a year (5% of the time) when there wasn't enough sunlight to keep the batteries charged.
@@noyopacific I completely see the place for a generator especially following your logic. I just didn't expect them to be needing to use one so early in the winter except for maybe power tools. These are all lessons I'm trying to figure out now before we go off grid.
Heath, I am so pleased that you have people that have such great helpful information & tips for you to make sure you & your family are doing well throughout the year but especially the winter!
Hello! Just discovered your channel last night, my nephew and I watched until sleep some of your work, we really liked and we are rooting for your work, your family and ranch. My family is really animal loving and we never made any grave for our deceased pets, but last year when our 16 yo cat passed, my mother planted hydrangeas over her, now spring is finishing but we have still beautiful flowers reminding us of a special companion, a loving, crazy energetic and delicate kitty. I understand your pain in remember you could have done some things different, but be sure your dog would never judge and certainly would forgive everything.
I loved him so much!! And I miss him too, although I never met him. You’re new pup can’t replace Ruger, but seems like a loving dog and happy to be there!
Darn it Heath. You made me cry. The hardest part of selling any property I've owned has been my worry that the great dogs I've buried there might be 'forgotten'. But they still live in my heart. God Bless and best of success....~Eli.
Sitting here with my 4 month old blue heeler and so grateful for her. Never owned a dog before ladybird( my blue heeler) but she has been nothing but a blessing to me and my boys.
The first year really is the test year - what else do we need and what is going to work - now you are living there really is the only time to work this out - you have done an amazing job on your home
I have 2 dogs, a blue heeled and a catahoula, that I love very much. Your struggle with Ruger’s passing will help others in the future when the inevitable happens. It’s already helped me. I dread the day that I have to feel the same pain that you have so graciously shared with us. Life is so awesome, such a blessing and yet unfair a times. I can’t think of a better earthly standard of what unconditional love is like, than receiving it from a dog. Thank you for sharing your story. It makes all the difference, to ones who care.
Recognizing these wonderful feelings, joy and pain, makes you all the more strong and admirable. My mother used to say pain will always be there, it is the suffering that is optional. So as you well said, look at the wonderfully lived, at the loved, at the fun and running, at the games, at the looks and laughs, at the good. Because that is what it is all about with these God given companions some of us are blessed with. May you always be as clear and right about your feelings, may you always be able to see and love. You are one outstanding person and I really enjoy the feeling of love and growth that your videos leave me with.
I thoroughly enjoy your videos and watching all of your awesome projects. Your home and property are so beautiful!! I would love love love to live like this and off the grid! Your hard work is amazing!! Thank you for sharing with us!
I love following how your place is coming along. My husband and I moved to the Pacific Northwest a year ago and have been living in our 5th wheel. We will be converting our garage/shop to a home. We would love to become as self sufficient as possible, although IDK if we’ll go totally off grid. I bet your wife sure appreciates all the skills you have to build your home!
I’m a big guy who does not get too emotional over most things. The loss of my dog was the hardest thing I have ever experienced. Thank you for sharing your moments, even when they are private. ❤️🇨🇦
My old gal (13 ) is curled up 4 feet away catching a morning nap. We've already been out for our first walk of the day on the beautiful cool fall morning. It was still dark out as we are early risers. She comes down a few minutes after I put the coffee on for that all important head scratch and morning greeting. It is our routine and my joy. During the day she stays close to the Mrs or I.. Like me she takes more knaps and that's ok. Yeah she's just a dog but the place would be empty without her. Every time you put the fire on to warm up Old Ruger you confirmed a truth I've come to know. Never trust a man who doesn't like dogs.
Loved this loved seeing the storm. All things will get normal as time goes by as you get more things done it takes time. Your wife understands this I’m sure! Being together doing life together is the most important thing. Enjoy more, worry less.
Mud, Fluffy, MacTavish, Caleb, countless kitties - they're all gone now, and the memories are bittersweet, but oh, how we enjoyed them and how much love they showered on us! We who loved and love our animals know *exactly* how you feel. There's no shame in mourning our beloved pets.
I have had a few dogs in my life that have meant more to me than some friendship with people. This is the second or third time I have watched one of your videos and found myself with tears in my eyes. Thank you for sharing not only the good times, but also the tough times with us.
I did not know Ruger, or you, except through UA-cam... but when you talked about him and the headstone I could not stop the tears that rolled down my cheeks. I do not know what to say or type in this case. Only that Ruger looked like a special companion and the world is a smaller place without him. Goodluck to you!
The more the hurt of losing a dog equals the amount of love you had for them. And don't worry about the haters they probably don't have the great family you do, or do anything close to the work you do for them. Thanks for the great content 👍
Love the Ruger Head Stone, Thanks Marty & Lee for the Stone! Looks like Bandit is loving him some Heath! 😁 Maybe Bandit can take the passenger seat now? Those Australian Shepherds love to ride shotgun. 👍😁❤️
It must be pretty damn special to sit on that porch and watch the storms roll in. There’s a classic Australian movie called The Castle, I think your family would love it. It’s all about the serenity.
Love your videos. Marty and Lee that was a wonderful thing to do. You have inspired my son and I. We are looking for property out west and I will be going out to Montana few weeks to look at some property.
As long as you have heat, water, a few lights and you can keep your fridge/freezers operating, you are good to go. Video games and such can be put away till you are at full power. That is what books are for. Your kids will understand and get used to the few times that it will happen. Wonderful thought by your friend for the memory for Ruger. He was a special soul. Take care!
I love how Bandit was there with you when you placed the head stone... Kinda symbolic if you think about it. Much love from Canada, can't wait to see your first winter adventures at the ranch.
You are inspiring and calming. When I am having an anxious day your steady calm chatting helps me settle and find my pace. I hope those negative comments don't get you down too often. Much love from Southeast Texas ♡
It does not matter how long we have had our dogs it is never long enough. They become an extension of ourselves. The unconditional love they give us is so special. I am so glad you love your dog and family the way you do and allowed us to share it, warts and all. I am ashamed that people feel the need to put others down so they can feel better about themselves. I do believe that you will work out all the large and small problems, and I am smiling thinking that you are so lucky to have a wonderful family to work through them together. Have a great week.
Bless your hearts. What a beautiful tribute to Ruger. I miss Ruger too. As silly as that may seem, I do. Winter is coming. Your hard work each day is making such a difference. Thank you for everything.
So envious of your life. Your family is so lucky to live that lifestyle. Even your younger kids appreciate how and where you live and that is special. Just know how much you have both passed on to your kids will serve them well and makes them natural leaders.
Great video. It sure takes me back to living on grandpa's homestead with no running water and no electricity. And we did that with 2 weeks of -40F every February. Thanks for an amazing video.
I don’t think I’ve commented before, but I have been watching since the time lapse. I’ve enjoyed them all, have learned a lot, questioned a few, but am grateful that you choose to share your journey, knowing the critics will inevitably have their say. Why I’m commenting... I grew up in Caldwell ID, and learned first hand what hard work is. There was little handed to me in life, I had to earn it. But I was given my best Friend at age 7 and Toby the cow dog stayed you my side through most of my growth. He died on a winter day, and life was never the same. Years later, as an adult, in the ARMY, in Texas, this little pup ran in front of my truck on a setting sun. I picked her up, named her Cleo, and she traveled with me throughout my service. Into my Civilian Life here in Virginia. She made it 16 years and 10 months. This was less than a month ago she said goodbye. She was To y all over again. My best friend and partner in crime. Loss is hard, but it’s the beauty of the life led that makes it so hard. Losing a beautiful soul will be forever hard to forget, and honestly, why would you want to? Remember him for what he gave you, and for him. That’s what I do for my two. Thanks to you and yours again, always a joy watching and learning.
I'll take some of that liquid sunshine! Still warm here in the Desert. Have friends and family in Idaho. They've all been posting pictures of the snow they're getting on facebook. After living in this desert for the past 30 yrs. I miss snowy winters. Stay warm all!
Thanks for sharing what your friends did for Ruger, I started watching your videos just before he passed, and I must say the video you posted when it happened really touched my heart,
When you first told us about Ruger passing I got really choked up. So sorry for your loss. It's been 7 years since we lost our Sadie to an unknown disease. She basically lost her appetite and wouldn't eat. The vet couldn't find anything wrong with her. She left us way too young. We have had many dogs over the years, 5 at one time, and they are all buried in the same place except for Sadie. She came into our lives after we decided no more dogs. My wife found her and brought her home and when I went into the living room to sit down, she ran in and jumped into my lap. She was my constant companion. We found her owner but she didn't want her back. We spread her ashes at the park where we found out her story from a group of girls that recognized her.
Never met him in person but I could tell how special Ruger was.... and how much he added to your life. So sorry for your loss. I’m glad your friend sent the headstone, I’m certain it’ll become a treasure for you as time goes by. The black and white dog is awesome too! He seems to really really love his family and his life there - greatly! Yalls home is so cozy.... and your family is awesome!!!! Hey Cedar!!!! Get him to share his famous rice recipe!!!!! Ya hear?! And as ALWAYS, be blessed!!!
Bless you Heath. Ruger was not just a dog - he was truly a friend and companion. We know his loss hurts. I hope that, in time, it will get easier to bear. You have proven to be an incredible human being. I only wish that at my age, I could do the things you do!
Hitting hard tonight... I just buried my best friend for the last 13 years and best chocolate lab ever last night. It's the day every dog owner knows is coming but nothing can truly prepare us for it. Godspeed Rufus and Ruger!!

nolanbrown84 So sorry to hear about Rufus!

Its 7am in the uk where I live, I've just watched red poppy ranch in bed hugging my 2 dogs before I start my day.
Love and best wishes to you
💚❤💙💜💛
How lovely of your friend and it’s a wonderful memorial. I love the way Bandit stood back while you placed the memorial, then went and paid his respects. He’s a good dog!
linda fox It was really a sweet sight, Ruger and Bandit would’ve been great friends. 🐾
Man, my allergies really kicked up when I started watching this video.... RIP Ruger.
Mine too. My eyes are watering a little right now. We can never love our pets too much. Words can’t describe it.
RIP, Ruger. Losing a pet is on par with losing a family member - because that's what they are: family.
Thank you for sharing.
Yes indeed. The key word in all our endeavors is 'family'. We do live for love, and forget that so much !
Bandit is (and will be) repaying this family back for adopting him by loving them all unconditionally!
I dont ever leave comments but I want you to know that watching you and your family, gave me and my family the courage to follow our own dream. We now live off grid in Oklahoma and have never been happier. My thanks to you and Cedar for sharing your journey, both ups and downs.
RIP Ruger. He truly was man's best friend. Much love from MA.
Thank You
I know how hard it is losing a dog. Not easy because they can be great companions. Thank you for sharing your life with us. Sweet family
@Mike Ramsay 17 years is a long time to have a dog, you are lucky to have had so much time. Thanks for the positive support!
Thank your son for his service for me. Hope man's best friend helps him heal. Stay strong
The slamming door tooth extraction process brought back memories and made me laugh, thanks.
Me too! That's more than half a century ago too!
Gemmel I've heard about but never seen it done before, kid didn't even flinch!
That loyal and bonny dog needs a 'corner stone '....because he helped you build the house. 'Best friend' indeed. Bless you all. xxx
Hello from Rexburg ID. Same storm blew through here. I would rather watch your vlog than anything offered on t.v.. Keep up the good work.
Thank you.
Every one of your videos is like a personal letter to me. That is your magic. That is your gift.
That's more like it Heath! I think you have a great community following your adventures, focus more on all the positive vibes you get compared to the small negatives. You've put yourself and your family on a spotlight by being on youtube, it's impossible to like all the comments you get.
You're an inspiration. My family loves watching Red Poppy Ranch. Thank you for sharing your lives with us.
Thank the Lord for family, good friends and him!God Bless!
The sol ark 8k he has installed will do the job of taking generator input better than any other inverter charger available. Check it out!
So is the power issue Heath is having caused by needing a larger battery supply, needing lower usage, or needing more panels?
You are building a beautiful home for yourself and your family.
Love is love. It is good. Ruger an you will grow on and on. No matter his crossing over.
He is home now, but your love keeps on.
May God bless your friend who gifted you with Rugers headstone.....Stay warm and safe. I love you guy's God bless
That was very kind of your friend. You don't need any negativity in your life. Love your videos, keep pushing on your doing great.
I’m a big guy who does not get too emotional over most things. The loss of my dog was the hardest thing I have ever experienced. Thank you for sharing your moments, even when they are private. ❤️🇨🇦
Two months ago we buried our dear friend, she was with us for 15 years. I'm so sorry, this things hurt like no other. Thanks for sharing.
they are not just a pet. I have lost many and cried like baby .I respect that you cried over your buddy-friend Best wishes
I just watched Dances With Wolves and you sound exactly like Costner when narrates his diary entries . Thanx for posting
I commend you on this one, isn't easy having our buddies leave. Thanks for sharing.
Love seeing Bandit. Hope he is working out ok for your family.
2 mins and some odd seconds and I'm in tears. Great gift. Ruger would sure love it!!! He will love it, as he did your family.
What a special companionship you had with Ruger. Love watching your videos!
Maybe Bandit can take the passenger seat now? Those Australian Shepherds love to ride shotgun. 👍😁❤️
It must be pretty damn special to sit on that porch and watch the storms roll in. There’s a classic Australian movie called The Castle, I think your family would love it. It’s all about the serenity.
Tuff to lose our dog friends. I’m nursing my 18 year old heeler Millie. She rode with me across the country for 16 years and never missed a trip.
Love your videos. Marty and Lee that was a wonderful thing to do. You have inspired my son and I. We are looking for property out west and I will be going out to Montana few weeks to look at some property.
As always, God bless you all! RIP Ruger, # youredoingwhatmanydreamof , keep it up, I enjoy your videos so much.
Take care!
Buying that stone was a very kind gesture.
I love how Bandit was there with you when you placed the head stone... Kinda symbolic if you think about it. Much love from Canada, can't wait to see your first winter adventures at the ranch.
MAY RUGER REST IN PEACE. Love the head stone. From Houston Texas.
Houston too! Go astros
Beaumont texas and yes Astros are the best
