Here's another drum sequencing tip: If your drum machine can use probability, put a closed hi hat after every open hi hat you have sequenced. Then, set the probability on those closed hats to something lowish. You can get some really fun hi-hat "bark" effects this way, and the randomness of it can really spice up a pattern! Thanks so much for having me Bo! It was a blast to work with you, I hope we can do it again sometime :)
Freebeat is possibly my very favourite UA-camr. (he covers exactly the subjects I'm interested in and in an amusing and easy to watch style). Good to see him being invited to be part of "Summer of Synths"!
You listened to all of us Free Beat freaks who recommended him to you! Thanks, and thanks Mr F Beat for another great video! Summer of Synths is a brilliant idea, Mr B Beats!
Free Beat is the best when it comes to budget beat creation! All the guests for the summer of synths have been outstanding choices, Bo! Love watching this series.
Been following freebeat sub 500subs and now I see him here. Proud ! And I love this concept Bo :D Also these drum tips were great, and its a nice refresher on thoes grooveboxes and their potential. Thank you both beats (get it ? Free beat bo beats both, okay sorry) for the video ^^
Bo, FreeBeat was the one who inspired me to buy a Elektron Model Cycles and I love using this amazing machine. FreeBeat, it’s heartwarming that Bo features you. well done gentlemen👍🇸🇪
Gotta say, I really do love my Volca drum. Programming sounds can be tedious but the easy parameter manipulation of the independent layers makes for some great dynamic sound. Constructing beats 16 steps at a time and then linking them together is the only other gripe I have.
BoBeats I subscribed, I have been a Free Beat fan for quite a while thank you so much for showing support to him and for featuring The tonic patches look forward to more of your content thank you brother
Out of the 3 I think the MODEL CYCLES is one of the most under rated sequencers alone then add the percussive abilities. The P locks are excellent and whilst I have not used one myself, I fully understand what they can do and how you can sequence external gear with them. I know of similarly price sequencers that cannot do as much as the Cycles, and not to mention they don't have any synth engines. I am wanting 1 to team up with my Nord 3P Drum. Thx for the upload. xD
The M:C is so fun. Bought one a few months ago, had blasting fun with it ! But there's a downside, this is a gateway drug for higher end Elektron gear : three months later I bought a used Digitakt. #neverEndingFun
Hey Free Beat, nice demo of these drum machines! I always like hearing the capabilities of the volca drum especially, and that is a funky bikegarrett kit on the PO-32.
- Roland Zenbeats ZR1 Drum machine, it's free, can load any sound and has Probability and 10 other per step automations all programmable with a swipe of the finger, and my current favorite the TR-6S.
Good recommendations (especially the Volca Drum). The Model Cycles had too much needless menu-diving for my taste. If somebody gifts you pretty much any of the pocket operators (with the possible exception of the Factory and office models) you'll have a lot of fun. I wouldn't advise buying any pocket operators yourself though. In any case, it's definitely the Volca Drum for the budget drumsynth win.
@@dinogoldie9716 The Circuit Tracks was just not a device that I personally enjoyed using. It was a simple matter of lack of patterns, due to how the different drum tracks are set up. It's a GREAT piece of gear, just not one for me. I highly recommend it to many different musicians. Saying I couldn't grasp it seems a little unfair lol.
Great video...but I'm looking for standard acoustic drum sounds....so far I've watched a couple hundred different videos and seen only a handful of videos on acoustic type sounds. I'm currently without a full time drummer, and have been looking for easy to use stand alone drum machines with current(ish) drum sounds...at least passable. So far, I have the Alesis sr18. Not even close to current for drum sounds. Why have they not produced a new version? My bass player has the sr16. Not really much different as far as sound. We were using a Korg ek50 synth. It's rather bulky though, so we were looking for alternatives...I even contacted Korg and asked why they didn't release a drum machine like what is on their synth units. All they could tell me was that they would forward to R/D department and others that would have to do with that. The ek50 has 4 variations per pattern, two fills per pattern, and two intro and outro per pattern. That alone makes it more versatile than anything else I have seen so far. Plus the sounds are pretty hard to beat. No pun.
Loving my cycles. I Use it more than my digitone due to ocd as dusty flat need cleaning first but the cycles seems more dust repellent as for the drum it’s got to be the tiniest groove machine ever aha
What do you think about the Alesis SR18? I bought it because of great reviews. I'm not really enthusiastic but I confess i didn't spend a lot of time on the operating manual, so my way of using it is limited to the presets patterns. At the time I bought it, I add 2 other options I was interested in Korg KR-55 Pro Rhythm Machine or Arturia DrumBrute Impact Analog Drum Machine. I tend to regret my choice...but maybe I only need to learn how to use the Alesis SR18...Meanwhile, about drum sounds, you got plenty of it on Garage Band and other free I-pad applications...Well, as you see i'm kind of lost.
"At the end of the day, the model cycles is a fantastic way to explore new rhythms." Good, because at the beginning of the day, I don't music very much. 😉
Volga frum is a bit....odddddd....very easy to make crazy out there sounds...actual DRUM sounds tho....not so much. I'd describe it as an noise machine that CAN also create some drumish sounds if you work hard at it. Bought it...and now looking to sell it.
Yeah, it's definitely the most "happy accident" machine of the bunch. With the Synthmata editor, you can really start to dial in your sounds, but working at a computer for a budget drum machine isn't gonna be for everyone haha.
I came across an impersonator on this channel Trying to be bobeats saying you’ve won a price. lucky i called him or her out After checking the channel content And finding zilch which gave it completely away. and i was the one that got the message after making a comment on this video then I Instantly gave a piece of my mind politely of course as I’ve been sucked in by these types many times before. I’m sure people here have encountered these types as well and then they want your details. Aha😀
I’m glad UA-cam randomly unsubscribed me to your channel smh fixed it also I think the Arturia drumbrute should get a mention 300$ bucks for a analog drum machine with a fat kick 🦵 just saying

So was this the fastest most interesting take on Volca Drum I've seen so far? Now I wish on one, thanks to Bo and Freebeat :-)
Way to go Free Beat. He takes his hard hat and lunch pail and works on those synths every day.

Saving this for later!
My favorite drum machine is the Yamaha V50, lovely PCM samples from the 80s. The V50 is a workstation but has a built-in nice drummer.
Awesome sequencer in the V50 too - the main reason I got so into the RM1x in the late 90s was the sequencer on it was so similar to the V50
@@MP-fs4ey Yes, the whole Yamaha V50 is a great machine. Sounds, layout and functionality.
Thank you for Freebeat and of course for your videos!)
Just wanted to say cheers, could definitely do with more drum tips.
Big shout out to Free Beat!!! So good to see you here! 💪💪

Had to sneak some bikegarrett sounds in there haha.

What volca would you recommend instead ?
What is the best device for generating effects that you recommend?
Depends on what effects… I think Zoia is alot of fun and flexible!
@@BoBeats Thanks!! I look for effects similar to Valhalla Shimmer.
Worlds Collide!
SIR, What about the E SAMPLE ???
With a bit of patience you could use the Volca Drum as a simple bass synth.
