What does skydiving feel like? My First 10,000ft tandem Skydive out of a plane

  • Here is the experience of my first skydive, an in depth description of what to expect if you decide to take the plunge and jump out of a plane.
    This skydive was to celebrate getting to 50,000 subscribers.
    I did it at sarum airfield in Salisbury.
    Many thanks to the goskydive team, they were professional, smooth and fantastic.

      @@MeditationVacation I was into it 40 years ago and made about 25 jumps. Gave it up after I hurt my back falling off a pole as a utility lineman. But I'll never forget noting what you commented on in this video. It is so quiet up there with nothing to reflect sound except for the wind rustling through your canopy. It can be very peaceful taking in a God's Eye view of the world.

    I’m going skydiving in 6 days and every other day I switch between scared out of my mind, and so excited I could burst. The closer it gets the more my stomach starts to turn. This video made me feel so much better and most of that fear is gone, and now I can’t wait!!

    That was the best tandem jump video I've watched.You described the experience perfectly and it was so nice to see you relax and enjoy the jump during the freefall. I taught skydiving back in the early 70s so I can relate. Tandem jumping hadn't even been thought of then. I think you had the perfect instructor, one who was able to make you relax. Skydiving is such a head game.You had me smiling throughout. Thanks for sharing.

    “Surreal”, is a good description. When I landed yesterday, I couldn’t find the words to describe what I had just done! Later, I expressed how there is no fear involved. When you are actually doing it, you just follow your buddy’s instructions and enjoy the moments. I, too, was totally relaxed and enjoying the quietness after the parachute deployed. The “yank” was HUGE for me, but only lasted seconds. Thanks for sharing your experience.

    10:10. I understand... but that's because I've done a jump! I did mine with GoSkydive Salisbury two weeks ago. I highly recommend them. I was also really nervous before the jump and even got back in the car to drive home but somehow summoned the courage and eventually got in the skies! To my complete surprise from walking to the plane to landing on the ground I was completely relaxed! No fear at all! I made a conscious decision to keep my shoulders relaxed and to breathe deeply. As you say it feels as though you are floating and not falling at 125 mph! I'll do another one before the end of the year.

  • @somecharactersnotallowed1319
    @somecharactersnotallowed1319 5 років тому +3

    The two main sensations are extreme wind and sound. To get a decent idea of what it feels like, get your car up to maybe 80-90MPH and stick your palm out the window, now imagine that feeling on your whole body. Also, you can barely hear anything, even yourself yelling. There is no stomach drop feeling because the plane is already moving about as fast as you will be falling, so there is no or little acceleration occuring. It's super intense, but not not that bad. There is no video on youtube that comes even close to what it feels like when you are there.

    Hi, I am totally blind. When I was a teenager, I went through a summer program at a training center in Colorado. The students were taught independent skills among other things, and we got to go rock climbing a few times on a confidence-building exercise. I found that all the blind students who attended the full-time, school year-long training program got to go sky-diving before they graduated from the program. I didn't get to do this because I was only there for the summer, so part of me has always wondered what sky-diving would feel like. Thanks for describing it for me. Keep up the great meditations!

I've done two jumps now both of which can be seen on my UA-cam channel and both of which were done with GoSkydive Salisbury as they are the best. The training is great, the staff are friendly and professional and the equipment and facilities are great. I'm going there next weekend for a flight in a de Havilland Tiger Moth bi-plane and may just have to book another skydive while I'm there!

    • @georgejacob3162

      Alexia. Try Indoor Skydiving. You just walk into the wind chamber and then 'free-fall' at head/chest height. No real height involved. Even if you never do a proper skydive you can at least get some idea of what a free-fall feels like. I have a video of me doing Indoor Skydiving on my UA-cam channel so you can see what happens. I've done two proper skydives which are also on my channel and I think the Indoor Skydives I did helped me to gain the confidence to do a proper skydive.

      W S. I wish you the best of luck with your skydive. You've done Indoor so I'm sure you will LOVE it! Mind you I spoke to one experienced Indoor skydiver who was practicing advanced moves in the chamber and he told me that he had not done a proper skydive as he was too afraid of heights! I can't do solo as I'm nowhere near stable in the chamber so I just do tandems. I was asbsolutely petrified on the day of my 1st tandem jump. SO petrified that I kept ignoring my name call over the tannoy! I even went back to my car and thought about driving home but I knew that I would regret it if I drove home without doing it. So feel the fear and do it anyway. Both my tandem skydives are ready to view on my UA-cam channel and you can see how apprehensive I look on my 1st 10,000ft jump and how relaxed I look on my 2nd 15,000ft jump. On my 1st jump my heart rate had been racing all day but it was actually normal from getting kitted up and taking off in the plane to landing. My 2nd jump from 15,000ft was a walk in the park! Believe me falling out of the plane is the best bit! I'm booked for another one this month. The day before my skydive I will be a passenger in a fully aerobatic plane. 3 weeks ago I did my 3rd wingwalk complete with hammerhead stall turns, loops and barrel rolls! My 2 previous wingwalks are ready to view on my channel as are my other aerobatic flights. I've also done a 160ft bungee jump. Now THAT was scary! Skydiving and wingwalking are a walk in the park compared to bungee jumping!

      @@georgejacob3162 Thanks George! I've seen a number of your comments on other videos and I've read them all, your words really help! I think you mentioned elsewhere that your parents/family didn't really encourage trying new experiences and facing your fears and that you've only recently changed and trying many things. I thought that was quite profound.

    • @georgejacob3162
      @georgejacob3162 4 роки тому +1

      @@ws6206 Yes that's correct. My parents tried to instill their own fears into me. My parents are very close minded and VERY over protective of me like 'Don't do that you might hurt yourself.' or 'Don't touch that you might break it ' and as a consequence of that sort of discouraging upbringing I have very little confidence in my abilities and social skills. The idea to skydive popped into my head in July 2018 and the thought was constant and drove me mad until I finally did the jump in September 2018. The metaphor behind the jump was about letting go. Letting go of fear. Letting go of everything and everyone that was no longer needed and/or wanted in my life be it friends, family, jobs, material possessions etc. I have since moved out of where I was living and I have other employment. Fear stands for False Emotions Appearing Real. When you fall out of that plane and you reach top speed and you cannot fall any faster it simply feels as though you are floating due to the air pressure pushing up against your body. Much like what you would have experienced in the Indoor Skydiving wind chamber. I found falling out of that plane to be the easiest thing in the world instead of the scariest thing in the world. Will you have your jump filmed? If so I'll look forward to checking it out.

    As another subscriber celebration may I suggest Wingwalking? AeroSuperBatics operate out of Rendcomb near to Cirencester and they are the best in the business. Until recently they were known as the Breitling Wing Walk Team. On your first flight you are strapped to a rig bolted to the top wing (so no actual walking the wings involved) of a 1940's Boeing Stearman bi-plane and they will NOT do any upside-down manoeuvres on your first flight. Also you will do a maximum of about 600ft on your first flight. You only get to do upside-down manoeuvres at a height of around 2,200ft on your second flight.

      Well done on your tandem! :)
      If you went to a dropzone where they fly higher you would get more time in freefall - but the perception of freefall time is very subjective anyway, especially on your first jump due to sensory overload.
      As you get more used to skydiving and thus more relaxed/ more perceptive, I think you would find that time slows down dramatically.
