I remember watching this back in 2003 and it got me interested in film history. It strikes just the perfect balance between honoring the old and the new. Nowadays a list like this couldn't work mainly due to the presence of social media (the internet was around then obviously and I do remember complaints about omissions or rankings even at the time) but also because the Father Flanagans and Regina Giddenses of classic film would end up getting crushed by Harry Potter, Voldemort, Lord of the Rings, the MCU, Thanos, Transformers, Twilight, Fifty Shades, Spiderman, X-Men, Inglorious Bastards, Mean Girls, etc. Its this weird new generational phenomenon where "newer is better" and "our stuff is better than your stuff" and it ain't always necessarily so (and boy I'm YOUNG). For instance, I doubt today there would be the same reverence for - say - Paul Muni's original Scarface. There wouldn't be the same kind of "balance" as seen here.
Hans Landa, Amy Elliotte Dunne, Sauron, Annabelle/Bathsheba from the Conjuring and Calvin Candie would be on the Villains list for sure Logan/Wolverine, Gandalf, Captain Jack Sparrow, Beatrix Kiddo, and Katniss Everdeen on the Heroes
@@jefftcritic This seriously blows. I watched specifically to see the top 10. Wanted to hear what they said about The Silence of the Lambs, Rocky and To Kill a Mockingbird.
Asa King I think he is a villain. He obsess’ over a woman he barley knows, tries to kill someone for no reason, he’s a racist and clearly has a whole mess of issues underneath that. That said, awesome character in an awesome movie
Thank you! I was 12 years old when I watched this broadcast. I never forgot Angela Lansbury’s comments about Amon Goeth. Maybe someone else can upload the other parts of it? I seem to recall that they put together a nice montage for Hannibal Lecter, complete with clips from Silence of the Lambs as well as Hannibal... not sure if my memory is playing tricks on me there.
Thank so much for posting this special, I've been wanting to see this special for years. One thing I probaby would suggest is to not record anything during the commerical breaks, so that way you have room to fit in everything else you are interested in recording and seeing. But I appricate what you had and sometimes that's what counts.

Schindler's List 1993 has a hero and a villain on the list Oskar Schindler is number 13 hero played by Liam Neeson and Amon Goth is number 15 villain played by Ralph Fiennes and I love the movie and it is one of my favourites of all time.
@@karaoconnoraliasraidra one hero that should've made the original list is John Coffey from the Green Mile, perhaps one of the most pure-hearted characters in all of cinema
16:25 I have to strongly disagree with Sigourney Weaver on that. Hans Gruber is everything BUT repellent. He's quite the attractive and, dare I say it, likable villain and a big reason why that first "Die Hard" is a classic and why none of the sequels (even the overrated Die Hard 3) ever reached that pitch perfect level of villain again.
Matthew Salter Noah Cross totally deserves to be on the list. He represents the kind of untouchable evil which cannot be defeated, no matter how good our intentions.
These specials should be on DVD. I love watching them.
39:47 That transition from Darth Vader's breathing device to Frank Booth's gas mask was way too good. I was dying!
These old commercials are taking me back
I love seeing the late Sir Roger Moore and Christopher Reeve talking in this documentary.
Two of my favorites ❤️

Always lovely to see Angela Lansbury.
Thanks for posting, this is rare!
That musical transition at 1:57:21 was just chillingly superb!
This should be on DVD along with the other specials.
They should remake this list now that 15 years have passed and there are new heroes and villains who'd definitely make the list
Col. Hans Landa would have to be on there for Villain
Hans Landa, Amy Elliotte Dunne, Sauron, Annabelle/Bathsheba from the Conjuring and Calvin Candie would be on the Villains list for sure
Logan/Wolverine, Gandalf, Captain Jack Sparrow, Beatrix Kiddo, and Katniss Everdeen on the Heroes
Most definitely. Thanos would probably end up on the list, and I would hope Anton Chigurh would be included
Don't forget Cooper (Interstellar), Mark Whatney and Desmond Doss.
Don't forget Terrence Fletcher from Whiplash.
I believe if this list is updated Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch in To Kill A Mockingbird would the number one hero still.
Ehh people today would complain he's a "white savior".
Indiana Jones…he was robbed, so was vader
They need to put this special on dvd. I have been enjoying it.
They do need to remake this list of heroes and villians. It would be interesting.
Why does it need to be on dvd if you can watch it on UA-cam for free
@@stevenbaxter9099 but you still don’t get the whole thing on UA-cam…the top ten heroes abs villains is missing from this video

God, I used to eat these specials up. Wish they would still produce more like this.
The only character that appears as both a Hero and a Villain is The Terminator
Its probably why he's hosting,
56:01 I think Travis Bickle is more of an anti-hero than a villain.
Asa King I think he is a villain. He obsess’ over a woman he barley knows, tries to kill someone for no reason, he’s a racist and clearly has a whole mess of issues underneath that. That said, awesome character in an awesome movie
Kathy bates was incredible in her oscar winning role in "misery"

Bette Davis played the best female villains in movie history.
Fasten your seat belts, it's gonna be a bumpy night
Obi Wan Kenobi played by both Sir Alec Guinness and Ewan McGregor is one of my favourite heroes.

Where would Thanos rank on this list? Or Heath Ledgers Joker?

Is there a way to watch the rest of the video?

This list needs to be updated because Heath Ledger's Joker, Voldemort, Thanos, Hans Lander and other villains will be on the list now.
And Gandalf, Iron Man, Wonder Woman, and Harry Potter could be on the heroes list
