My take on this movie has always been a little poetic. This girl, who was probably completely innocent, was tortured in an absolutely nightmarish fashion until she was burned alive. The amount of evil that was done to her CREATED something equally evil, regardless of her original innocence. And even then she wasn't given the peace of death, trapped in her own corpse able to feel every poke and prod, every autopsy, still unable to defend herself. How could anyone hold any love for humanity after what's been done to her?

There's a similar tale coming from the granddaughter or something from a lady who was hunted down in either the Salem trials or the original trials across the pond. An older lady in a village was accused of witchcraft, mistreated, abused, bullied, and eventually sent to trial. At the trial she was actually found innocent and sent back to her village. The night she went back she was hunted down, beat nearly to death and hung in a tree by the village people. Legend has it that her last words as she was dragged up the tree were, "I wasn't a witch, but you've created one."

I believe Jane Doe was taking the fathers life force to bring herself back. Each thing that broke on the father healed Jane Doe, even when his eyes were going grey the color in her eyes were coming back. I think she would’ve left the son alone like the father asked her to but bc the son killed the father it went against her so she killed him.

This movie always hit me as an amazing metaphor for female trauma. It’s often hidden and the nature of it doesn’t make sense to a lot of men who are used to externalizing their emotions. So, they literally cut her open even after she screams out over the radio. They needed to see it to believe her, which made it so they defiled her body further. Her putting them through it all was her version of saying, “You want to see it? Fine. I’ll make you experience it.” The father-son storyline also broke my heart. Such a great movie.

I thought it would be she was alive the entire time but tortured to a point of comatose or made to seem dead…? and they were slowly killing her. But again, this synopsis makes a lot of sense

The fact that the actress for Jane Doe (Olwen Kelly) just laid there for pretty much the entirety of the film is amazing. The dedication and the ability to not shift around or blink or flinch. I could never. I think my only question, is why was the girlfriend and son punished? Did he die because he interrupted the transfer of life? And why was the girlfriend down there? She had left and had had nothing to do with anything. Those things are really my only nitpick.
And I know she was supposed to come and pick him up, but why would JD let her in? Or was she outside the influence of the spirit bubble and just happened in?
You're pretty much correct... JD altered their perception of reality... None of the supernatural things actually happened. Each of them technically killed themselves and each other...

The previous family that had been killed were all contained within the house, the cops even said they looked like they were trying to get out, but his girlfriend was already out, meaning either JD purposely let her in or there is an area of effect JD’s magic ghost bubble has that anyone can just waltz into. I was curious as to how that works.
This is one of all time fav horror films. It's so eerie, creepy and unsettling. Fun fact: The director picked the actress for Jane Doe, because she had an extensive yoga background, and could control her breathing/movements/remain still. She's an Irish model/actor...

Honestly, I'm curious if she would have let the son go if he didn't kill his father. She was getting better and was stopped before it was completed. Thus, giving her reason to go after the son next. Since she did actually move this time (as she hadn't throughout the entire movie and just through hallucinations), she must have healed significantly from what was taken.
I have a niece that’s a forensic pathologist and she’s certainly entertained us with some startling stories. She never tells us the name of the person and she never jokes about it. However, sometimes her stories are actually funny and some are just very sweet too.
I believe the dad was looking for the knife to cut off his tongue, like Jane Doe's was (though I don't fully understand this, as every other wound were done by magic essentially, he probably didn't need to do this), but the son misunderstood his intention (the cat's death neatly set this up). By killing his dad, the son interrupted the transfer of pain that was restoring Jane Doe, which broke the deal the dad had made to protect his son, hence why she ended up killing him. This is to further make the point how the son and dad - the whole family, really - had trouble communicating. The son didn't want to this job, but was unable to tell his dad about, for example, and the dad was unaware of his wife's inner suffering, more than likely because of lack of communication, and so the movie ends badly for everyone as a result.
Have you seen the show "Hannibal" with Mads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy? It's not really horror, more like thriller and gore, but you might like it. Their relationship is something else.

To me, this movie was a really smart film. Normally I get very uncomfortable during hospital/autopsy scenes in movies. But the reason why this is genius because we gradually find out about the story behind "Jane Doe's" body. This girl was literally the product of what women go through during the massacres committed by the Church just because they were seen as "suspicious", "a witch" or god forbid "a free-thinking woman". It was clear that the woman was innocent when she was killed (hence the brutal markings) and yet she was cursed to be put in a state of suspended animation where no matter what her body is done to her, she's unable to defend herself. The pain she endured made her become a villain. The analogy of it is crushing because women still go through this kind of shit and still get taken advantage of today and in many countries aside from our own.
I watched this 4 times because it's scary good like the witchcraft twist and the ending is way creepier and good. I remember the time when we watched it with my grandma because she loves scary movies too much but this one made her throw up and scared coming from a Mexican family, we don't deal with witchcraft or la brujas or la santeria.

It was different and interesting and kept me guessing. And while Emile Hirsh is a cutie I think Brian Cox is a studly older gentleman. I enjoyed y’alls reactions and commentary as always. this movie was actually a big surprise for me i found it during a search for horror movie and i stunbble on it i wasn't expecting much i just watch it cause i was bored and a bit tired so i was like ok a horror movie that's not gonna be good but it's alright cause i was tired idk maybe 15 minutes later i was totally awake and "captivated" if i can say bc that was so different but in a really good way this movie is really really good i was on the edge of my seats the last 30 minutes
Splendid reaction. This movie delivers thrills and more. TAOJD was one of the best 2010 horror movies. And it is horrifying stuff, isn't it, dearies? The claustrophobic, remote and eerie setting is perfect. Have to say, I have rarely felt genuine chills, and the hairs on my neck reaching outward, during a scary flick ... but when the man started singing that "Let the Sun Shine In" song behind the cellar door, that did it for me. (Oh, and the little bell dinging also got to me, LOL.) I remember that song in reruns of "The Flintstones" on cable TV in an episode when the little kids were suddenly able somehow to sing perfectly. This particular song pops up every once in a while in cinema; I remember a 2004 John Waters movie, "A Dirty Shame", that used it. Anyway, thanks for sharing your experience! You guys are awesone. You use those brief comedy "inserts" from videos and movies sparingly, which is good--- you're not relying on them like other UA-cam hosts do. Keep up the good work.
Soo I love this movie. It was explained but what happened was the girl was tortured, and by some kind of magic became trapped in her own body and all that happened were ways of people trying to stop her. They couldn’t, so they buried her. And she was dormant. She doesn’t want people to operate on her because she can literally feel everything. She sent them multiple warnings like interfering with the radio and the storm.

Honestly i normally watch horror movies when i'm writing or doing art (for background noise) but this one I was so horrified and captivated the entire time, i loved every moment of it. this to me is an amazing horror movie.
This movie really needs either a sequel or a prequel, I've been begging for one for ages. It's such a good horror film, a perfect example of that genre, less of a thriller than I'm used to watching. There may not be a true, traditional "hell", or a separate realm/parallel universe made/designated for souls in this movie's world. Whoever prepared her body wanted to punish her as well as lock away her powers, so they decided to make her a kind of "hell" where she's forced to be immobile & eternally vulnerable to external harm, forever defenseless and abandoned/alone. And I tend to think that her trauma and anger and pain developed into a raw(er) will [think Violet from The Haunting of Bly Manor], magnifying her inherent abilities the more time passed until she, kinda like a virus or plague demon, was invited unknowingly yet with no clear consent from herself, into living persons' lives. In other words, she became less herself or less a person, and more traumatized, malignant will itself. One commentator here said that men externalize their feelings, and I think that their point about the men here violating her body paralleling men not understanding internalized female trauma may inform of men here doing that excavation to hide away from their own pain, because they are giving order to a human-made-object when they do so, channeling and ignoring their own feelings. Going by how well prepared her spiritual jail was made, I feel there's a strong chance *EDIT* --> A viewer could look at JD just being malicious for its own sake, even before she was condemned or ostracized--whether it's because she was treated as such by her community and condemned or she was actually already a horrible person who other horrible people condemned. OR they could look at how her toe twitched at the end, how she killed the son right after he stopped her from giving the curse to the father, how to essentially mind-fucked them in the mis-kill with the son's gf dying and her bringing the dead to creep after them, some viewers can create an idea of her targeting the living to resurrect herself. It depends on whether writers would want to genre-bend a little and introduce more lore: whether she was an active necromancer when living or just an ordinary magic user of whatever skill and control level who happened to become more of a necromancer after the years passed as a living corpse AND what necromancing (in the movie's world and history) entails/how necromancers work their magic. Is necromancy a neutral and scary power, or an inherently destructive one that needs the user to hurt others and choose to chip off their empathy to use it better? She could have become more sadistic with each passing decade, being locked in with her physical and emotional pain with no way out and thus fueling more of that vengeful desire. It can blur into a maliciousness to just cause pain to feel like she's in control, not really to target those who harmed her all those yrs ago, nor their descendants (since she is supposedly far from her original home, time and space wise). At first, I felt "Jane Doe" and the father shared different sorts of self-entrapment and suppressing inner turmoils in that the father intentionally suspended himself in a state of self-defying, silent grief (refusing to commiserate with his son about his mom his wife's pain and loss more and unwilling to admit or express that he needed his son so he wouldn't have to face both the grief and his emotional self-isolation), while JD was forcibly put into a suspended state of eternal pain by others afraid of her power. The father rejects going outside of his own house (in contrast to his son, who doesn't want to leave him alone, and abandon him but is planning to leave bc of emotional fatigue and his own way of moving on when his dad won't really commiserate). While the dead definitely has "reduced" himself in a sort of way, he has much more choice in the matter. While I definitely still think this has some truth to it, it wasn't until Cody suggested that the mother who killed herself also had shared/inversed traits with JD. The mother, as Cody said, dealt with her own pain silently while she was still alive, obviously severely depressed and having felt alone despite having her husband and son. The mom/wife tried all her life to live through her unwell mental health, implying much less choice. That the father rendered himself powerless in a way by choosing to not confront his loss or at least move more forward with it, while JD was tortured against her will and forced from a community's well of love (whatever they--those Salem inhabitants--refused to give her in means of grace and care). Of course, the differences are that the dad was alive while JD is suspended in a life-death limbo, with her body being dead-alive and her spirit still inhabiting it but unable to affect/observe the world as a living person could. Both mother and JD were locked in their own sort of "hells", with "hell" being that helpless internal pain. Mom, however, has more likely either found peace in oblivion, started over in a new life (reincarnation), or a set place for dead people's souls--whichever one decides to create for this world. When JD was transferring her curse to the dad after he pleaded with her to leave his son--aka, he was sacrificing himself to save said son--I was thinking that she had been always trying to get herself resurrected instead of what Cody said about her trying to put herself out of her misery and finally die, but Cody's thoughts better coincide with that theme of suspense I was thinking of. And she may have killed the son (or killed him quicker) because he stopped the process. The son killed the dad to "save" him from that fate, thus kinda abandoning her to the centuries-one she was trying to get rid of. And the son did it for obvious love. Something she has no access to now after all who she would have known is gone, and maybe she never had something like that in the 1st place. There is another sort of irony in that, since in that act of love, the son fulfilled both that self-"death" the father inflicted on himself AND he denied JD her own peace by ensuring his dad would not end up exactly like her and take her curse. So the son kinda "abandoned"/left her to suffer/enabled her imprisonment as well in protecting his dad after having cut her open in ht first place, despite him wanting to leave earlier (he still wished to continue when they were both safer in the morning, as he felt and continued when his dad refused). Not only did he disallow whatever kind of freedom she sought, his act mimics the abandonment her community performed, even though it was definitely him just trying to save his dad. Paradox.

I always felt like Autopsy of Jane Doe and Oculus could be matched up together. Both movies are about two family members dealing with something supernatural. They even hit some similar plot points. I personally preferred Jane Doe, though for its creepiness. Spoilers: Edit: I think you already point this out at 30:52 but, yes, in both Autopsy and Oculus a spouse accidentally gets involved and killed.
5:59 The people who do autopsies are coroners or medical examiners, and they do not embalm the bodies. Their purpose is to find the cause of death via autopsy. Morticians embalm bodies, and only receive the body after a coroner or ME does an autopsy on it (if determined necessary). You need a medical license to be an ME/ Coroner so I’ve never come across an ME office at someones house, that would more likely be a mortician.
The anonymous names change by region it usually has something to do with historical events or frequency of a name. A quick google search says that John/Jane Doe started being used in the middle ages and the exact reason seems to be to vague for there to be much mention of possibilities. But the practice of a pseudo name for unknown people is much older. In modern times few countries use them in a legal sense but the US is uniquely behind the times in many ways, such as the British abolishing slavery and preparing to do so in their colonies being one of the reasons for the US revolution. A great example of another name taking over in this practice is John Smith which on the public level is used much more then John Doe and will probably fully replace it at some point.

John Doe was the most common name in NY in the second half of the 1800s. Much like the English word "guy" (as in, "Hey, guys! What's up?") came from the English name Guy being ubiquitously popular in the 1700s, John Doe came to be the "guess" for the name of an unidentified male corpse. Then they would need a name of a female unidentified corpse, thus Jane Doe.
My favorite horror movie. I love all of the characters. Something about a burning vengeful feminine entity moves me. I know she’s the villain. But as someone who has experienced graphic violence there’s a point in healing that just feels like fury. She became an unstoppable evil by what they did to her. And the lovely dad taking the pain from her makes me think… almost like an analogy for hurting the innocent people around you after being hurt yourself. The only thing I hated about this movie was the cat dying 🤣 totally unnecessary. She’s the perfect horror villain without having to lift a finger. And props to the actress.
I used to live down the street from the funeral home/ morgue. I went into it one day. The ushers thought I was there for the funeral happening and so I figured I'm already in too deep and had to pretend I was there for the funeral. It was a small one, only 7 people they all looked at me very strangely. I pretended to pray maybe even said a real one in the mix, like "Please Lord don't let this family find out that I am ya know just a random." Even though the DEFINITELY KNEW! I even signed the book with a fake name and walked out. Just walked and freaking out like please don't follow me.

Apparently the reason why the son wasn't let go because he ended the healing process, so the witch ended up taking him to because he broke the deal. Aka putting him out of misery and the witch singing the lullaby
I didn’t see anyone comment this but as someone who’s worked in hospitals and close to morgues I can say that no the smell of bodies isn’t around. Morgues are cold to slow decomposition, and heavily ventilated. Plus the amount of cleaning also helps to stave off smells. So usually they just smell like bleach. If a smelly body comes in, deodorizers can be used, and it doesn’t really travel. Also I get people getting squeamish, but like im just thinking about an actual autopsy and it’s like ‘yeah about right’

The answer to why we use john/Jane doe is in England they used it as a substitute for a legal name. It then morphed into a term used for the common man/woman. Also the term Jane doe didn't come about until the 1930s
This was the first time I’ve seen Serg clutch onto Cody’s shoulder. I loved it! In the State of Texas, the law is if you are not going to be embalmed, you have to be buried within 24 hours of clinical death. That’s what my mom did. And that is what I am going to do also after seeing this film! It’s in my top 3 horror films of all time. I had requested this film for Cody… now it’s your turn Surg… you asked for gore, here it is. “Stake Land”. It is the best vampire film that you’ve never seen. It’s not like any other of its kind. The acting, the score, the locations, the horrific evil gore. I can’t say enough about this film without giving anything away, except that you may want a bucket next to you. I will tell you this, though. Kelly McGillis, who was the female lead in “Top Gun” is in this. She should have been nominated for Best Supporting Actress in this film. It is best acting that I’ve ever seen. She needed to be in more scenes! (and I’m glad she came out as a lesbian. Good for her and good for our community!). PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE react to this. Honestly, I'm curious if she would have let the son go if he didn't kill his father. She was getting better and was stopped before it was completed. Thus, giving her reason to go after the son next. Since she did actually move this time (as she hadn't throughout the entire movie and just through hallucinations), she must have healed significantly from what was taken.

I have a niece that’s a forensic pathologist and she’s certainly entertained us with some startling stories. She never tells us the name of the person and she never jokes about it. However, sometimes her stories are actually funny and some are just very sweet too.

I believe the dad was looking for the knife to cut off his tongue, like Jane Doe's was (though I don't fully understand this, as every other wound were done by magic essentially, he probably didn't need to do this), but the son misunderstood his intention (the cat's death neatly set this up). By killing his dad, the son interrupted the transfer of pain that was restoring Jane Doe, which broke the deal the dad had made to protect his son, hence why she ended up killing him. This is to further make the point how the son and dad - the whole family, really - had trouble communicating. The son didn't want to this job, but was unable to tell his dad about, for example, and the dad was unaware of his wife's inner suffering, more than likely because of lack of communication, and so the movie ends badly for everyone as a result.

To me, this movie was a really smart film. Normally I get very uncomfortable during hospital/autopsy scenes in movies. But the reason why this is genius because we gradually find out about the story behind "Jane Doe's" body. This girl was literally the product of what women go through during the massacres committed by the Church just because they were seen as "suspicious", "a witch" or god forbid "a free-thinking woman". It was clear that the woman was innocent when she was killed (hence the brutal markings) and yet she was cursed to be put in a state of suspended animation where no matter what her body is done to her, she's unable to defend herself. The pain she endured made her become a villain. The analogy of it is crushing because women still go through this kind of shit and still get taken advantage of today and in many countries aside from our own.
seeing the cat injured like that made me look at my own cat like "don't you ever get hurt like that"
I watched this 4 times because it's scary good like the witchcraft twist and the ending is way creepier and good. I remember the time when we watched it with my grandma because she loves scary movies too much but this one made her throw up and scared coming from a Mexican family, we don't deal with witchcraft or la brujas or la santeria.

Splendid reaction. This movie delivers thrills and more. TAOJD was one of the best 2010 horror movies. And it is horrifying stuff, isn't it, dearies? The claustrophobic, remote and eerie setting is perfect. Have to say, I have rarely felt genuine chills, and the hairs on my neck reaching outward, during a scary flick ... but when the man started singing that "Let the Sun Shine In" song behind the cellar door, that did it for me. (Oh, and the little bell dinging also got to me, LOL.) I remember that song in reruns of "The Flintstones" on cable TV in an episode when the little kids were suddenly able somehow to sing perfectly. This particular song pops up every once in a while in cinema; I remember a 2004 John Waters movie, "A Dirty Shame", that used it. Anyway, thanks for sharing your experience! You guys are awesone. You use those brief comedy "inserts" from videos and movies sparingly, which is good--- you're not relying on them like other UA-cam hosts do. Keep up the good work.

It was explained but what happened was the girl was tortured, and by some kind of magic became trapped in her own body and all that happened were ways of people trying to stop her. They couldn’t, so they buried her. And she was dormant. She doesn’t want people to operate on her because she can literally feel everything.
She sent them multiple warnings like interfering with the radio and the storm.
Movie suggestion : The Dark and the wicked is such an underrated horror movie that came out in 2020. So well done, the plot, the acting, everything.

This movie really needs either a sequel or a prequel, I've been begging for one for ages. It's such a good horror film, a perfect example of that genre, less of a thriller than I'm used to watching. There may not be a true, traditional "hell", or a separate realm/parallel universe made/designated for souls in this movie's world. Whoever prepared her body wanted to punish her as well as lock away her powers, so they decided to make her a kind of "hell" where she's forced to be immobile & eternally vulnerable to external harm, forever defenseless and abandoned/alone. And I tend to think that her trauma and anger and pain developed into a raw(er) will [think Violet from The Haunting of Bly Manor], magnifying her inherent abilities the more time passed until she, kinda like a virus or plague demon, was invited unknowingly yet with no clear consent from herself, into living persons' lives. In other words, she became less herself or less a person, and more traumatized, malignant will itself. One commentator here said that men externalize their feelings, and I think that their point about the men here violating her body paralleling men not understanding internalized female trauma may inform of men here doing that excavation to hide away from their own pain, because they are giving order to a human-made-object when they do so, channeling and ignoring their own feelings.
Going by how well prepared her spiritual jail was made, I feel there's a strong chance
*EDIT* --> A viewer could look at JD just being malicious for its own sake, even before she was condemned or ostracized--whether it's because she was treated as such by her community and condemned or she was actually already a horrible person who other horrible people condemned. OR they could look at how her toe twitched at the end, how she killed the son right after he stopped her from giving the curse to the father, how to essentially mind-fucked them in the mis-kill with the son's gf dying and her bringing the dead to creep after them, some viewers can create an idea of her targeting the living to resurrect herself. It depends on whether writers would want to genre-bend a little and introduce more lore: whether she was an active necromancer when living or just an ordinary magic user of whatever skill and control level who happened to become more of a necromancer after the years passed as a living corpse AND what necromancing (in the movie's world and history) entails/how necromancers work their magic. Is necromancy a neutral and scary power, or an inherently destructive one that needs the user to hurt others and choose to chip off their empathy to use it better? She could have become more sadistic with each passing decade, being locked in with her physical and emotional pain with no way out and thus fueling more of that vengeful desire. It can blur into a maliciousness to just cause pain to feel like she's in control, not really to target those who harmed her all those yrs ago, nor their descendants (since she is supposedly far from her original home, time and space wise).
At first, I felt "Jane Doe" and the father shared different sorts of self-entrapment and suppressing inner turmoils in that the father intentionally suspended himself in a state of self-defying, silent grief (refusing to commiserate with his son about his mom his wife's pain and loss more and unwilling to admit or express that he needed his son so he wouldn't have to face both the grief and his emotional self-isolation), while JD was forcibly put into a suspended state of eternal pain by others afraid of her power. The father rejects going outside of his own house (in contrast to his son, who doesn't want to leave him alone, and abandon him but is planning to leave bc of emotional fatigue and his own way of moving on when his dad won't really commiserate). While the dead definitely has "reduced" himself in a sort of way, he has much more choice in the matter. While I definitely still think this has some truth to it, it wasn't until Cody suggested that the mother who killed herself also had shared/inversed traits with JD. The mother, as Cody said, dealt with her own pain silently while she was still alive, obviously severely depressed and having felt alone despite having her husband and son. The mom/wife tried all her life to live through her unwell mental health, implying much less choice. That the father rendered himself powerless in a way by choosing to not confront his loss or at least move more forward with it, while JD was tortured against her will and forced from a community's well of love (whatever they--those Salem inhabitants--refused to give her in means of grace and care). Of course, the differences are that the dad was alive while JD is suspended in a life-death limbo, with her body being dead-alive and her spirit still inhabiting it but unable to affect/observe the world as a living person could. Both mother and JD were locked in their own sort of "hells", with "hell" being that helpless internal pain. Mom, however, has more likely either found peace in oblivion, started over in a new life (reincarnation), or a set place for dead people's souls--whichever one decides to create for this world.
When JD was transferring her curse to the dad after he pleaded with her to leave his son--aka, he was sacrificing himself to save said son--I was thinking that she had been always trying to get herself resurrected instead of what Cody said about her trying to put herself out of her misery and finally die, but Cody's thoughts better coincide with that theme of suspense I was thinking of. And she may have killed the son (or killed him quicker) because he stopped the process. The son killed the dad to "save" him from that fate, thus kinda abandoning her to the centuries-one she was trying to get rid of. And the son did it for obvious love. Something she has no access to now after all who she would have known is gone, and maybe she never had something like that in the 1st place. There is another sort of irony in that, since in that act of love, the son fulfilled both that self-"death" the father inflicted on himself AND he denied JD her own peace by ensuring his dad would not end up exactly like her and take her curse. So the son kinda "abandoned"/left her to suffer/enabled her imprisonment as well in protecting his dad after having cut her open in ht first place, despite him wanting to leave earlier (he still wished to continue when they were both safer in the morning, as he felt and continued when his dad refused). Not only did he disallow whatever kind of freedom she sought, his act mimics the abandonment her community performed, even though it was definitely him just trying to save his dad. Paradox.
Movie recommendation for you to react to: LIGHTS OUT (2016), simple but efficient horror movie to leave you tense from start to finish, you will enjoy.

I always felt like Autopsy of Jane Doe and Oculus could be matched up together. Both movies are about two family members dealing with something supernatural. They even hit some similar plot points. I personally preferred Jane Doe, though for its creepiness.

5:59 The people who do autopsies are coroners or medical examiners, and they do not embalm the bodies. Their purpose is to find the cause of death via autopsy. Morticians embalm bodies, and only receive the body after a coroner or ME does an autopsy on it (if determined necessary). You need a medical license to be an ME/ Coroner so I’ve never come across an ME office at someones house, that would more likely be a mortician.
The anonymous names change by region it usually has something to do with historical events or frequency of a name. A quick google search says that John/Jane Doe started being used in the middle ages and the exact reason seems to be to vague for there to be much mention of possibilities. But the practice of a pseudo name for unknown people is much older.
In modern times few countries use them in a legal sense but the US is uniquely behind the times in many ways, such as the British abolishing slavery and preparing to do so in their colonies being one of the reasons for the US revolution.
A great example of another name taking over in this practice is John Smith which on the public level is used much more then John Doe and will probably fully replace it at some point.

John Doe was the most common name in NY in the second half of the 1800s. Much like the English word "guy" (as in, "Hey, guys! What's up?") came from the English name Guy being ubiquitously popular in the 1700s, John Doe came to be the "guess" for the name of an unidentified male corpse. Then they would need a name of a female unidentified corpse, thus Jane Doe.

If you remember, they took the paralysis flower out of her. Now her body is healed, and she can move.
My favorite horror movie. I love all of the characters. Something about a burning vengeful feminine entity moves me. I know she’s the villain. But as someone who has experienced graphic violence there’s a point in healing that just feels like fury. She became an unstoppable evil by what they did to her. And the lovely dad taking the pain from her makes me think… almost like an analogy for hurting the innocent people around you after being hurt yourself. The only thing I hated about this movie was the cat dying 🤣 totally unnecessary. She’s the perfect horror villain without having to lift a finger. And props to the actress.
I used to live down the street from the funeral home/ morgue. I went into it one day. The ushers thought I was there for the funeral happening and so I figured I'm already in too deep and had to pretend I was there for the funeral. It was a small one, only 7 people they all looked at me very strangely. I pretended to pray maybe even said a real one in the mix, like "Please Lord don't let this family find out that I am ya know just a random." Even though the DEFINITELY KNEW! I even signed the book with a fake name and walked out. Just walked and freaking out like please don't follow me.
I can't be the only one that feels bad for this father And son. They were just doing their job. They didn't know she was technically alive
And I get the symbolism behind stuff. But she is still the bad guy in this one She is a one now that deserves more than death.

I didn’t see anyone comment this but as someone who’s worked in hospitals and close to morgues I can say that no the smell of bodies isn’t around. Morgues are cold to slow decomposition, and heavily ventilated. Plus the amount of cleaning also helps to stave off smells. So usually they just smell like bleach. If a smelly body comes in, deodorizers can be used, and it doesn’t really travel. Also I get people getting squeamish, but like im just thinking about an actual autopsy and it’s like ‘yeah about right’

The acting, the score, the locations, the horrific evil gore. I can’t say enough about this film without giving anything away, except that you may want a bucket next to you. I will tell you this, though. Kelly McGillis, who was the female lead in “Top Gun” is in this. She should have been nominated for Best Supporting Actress in this film.
