What you call Binion's Tower was once The Mint Tower. I believe it was built back in the late 50's. The Tower may have a little after the initial casino not sure but I am sure is that people would pay to go to roof of the building to atom bombs going about 50 miles away. That was a big draw back the late 50's and early 60's for downtown Vegas and the Mint was the place to be. You can get info on the Mint on Google an UA-cam.
Luis Noone I believe the Stardust was one of the casinos that actively promoted the bomb viewing. The famous Stardust marquee was a representation of an atomic bomb blast. It replaced their first marquee around the late 50's or very early 60's.
You just answered a big burning question I've had for a long time. Been to Fremont St many times and have even been on the roof as a guest of the 4 Queens. The black plastic is there because the building has asbestos. Perfectly safe to be around unless it is being disturbed; asbestos dust isn't good. The building is owned by the 4 Queens and I do know that about 2 or 3 of the rooms have been renovated as a proof of concept. Glad to see they are taking security seriously. Seems that one day it could re-open. I got off once at the 8th floor (I think) and looked around near the elevator lobby but was too nervous to do much else. Excellent video!
This place WAS the Mint Hotel and Casino before Binion’s took it. We were broke newlyweds in the 80’s and stayed there. The rooms were cheap, probably because downtown wasn’t very popular then (no “Fremont Experience”, just a busy street). However, the rooms were clean and big, had a cool retro vibe and good views. The rooftop pool was great, and room service was good, too. It was a nice, relaxing Vegas experience, not so amped-up like now.

Thanks for sharing. It's possible. The Riviera was stripped to the concrete skeleton before being imploded (due to asbestos) That might be the only way. I found out from other viewers that this was the mint hotel before Binions.

Back in the late 70's to mid 80's and between the ages of 6 through 14 my family would vacation in Vegas 3 times per year, staying 7 nights per trip. My Dad loved to gamble at Binions, but my Mom liked The Mint, so that is where we always stayed. They always got a room facing Fremont Street and pretty high up so I could look down at all the lights from the different hotels and also be able to see The Strip. I remember swimming in that roof top pool with the giant M spinning above, going down to the second floor to play pinball/video games and always playing KISS on the arcade jukebox. I also used to constantly nag my parents to take me on the outside elevator. Great memories of Old School Vega$.
I have been watching Binion's for many years hoping they would reopen. I always wanted to hang out at the rooftop pool on a hot desert evening. It may not be the biggest pool in Vegas but it has location in its favor. Nice that they are leasing out the pool, but I want the full experience of a classic casino with all the lights and Fremont Street right out the door.
Crazy, It's been closed for so long. Like you said, I wonder what will be next. The rooms looks dated they would have to remodel the whole building I would think to compete with the other Hotels.
viperNohio I talked to one of the managers at binions and he said the cost to bring this hotel up to code is prohibitive. He basically admitted they would need to implode and rebuild.
How were you able to go inside & film everything you filmed?... Also, were you able to take anything out of there like towels/etc., like most people do when they check into a hotel/motel/etc.?...
due to costly removal of asbestos in the hotel preventing its renovation,[19] there are no current plans to renovate and re-open the hotel. Indeed, currently the check-in counter only houses discount T-shirt sales. Despite the hotel closure, the casino remains open.
I and my GF stayed there in 2007,B-4 it closed. Back then, the water that came out of the faucet for the tub water was BROWN. I saw that in your video. Cheap room, good gambling. They had slots that paid in coins, back then: Dollar "tokens:. Cool video. Good question as what is going on with all of those rooms. Condos, maybe. Yeah,I would live there.

My grandfather was a pioneer of Las Vegas from the very beginning with Ben Siegel who started the first casino, The Flamingo. "The Wiseguys" really kept everything going and in check. The police were even needed, and not many were even employed, as the mob took care of "problem people", very effectively. Mr. Howard Hughes changed all that when he starting buying up properties, and Summa Corp. started running the place like a business instead of the "Good Ol' Boy" network, where personal relationships were all that mattered. Corporations took over and not only did they lack the knowledge, finesse, and wisdom to keep Las Vegas stable, they slowly but surely ran it into the ground, seeking ever greater profits at the expense of guests and working people alike. The government wanted to screw the casino owners over as well, and the bureaucracy became more entrenched as the blockheads downtown wanted to centralize their power. The result was an overbuilt, hideous, overpriced monstrosity that will never regain the elegance, class, and greatness of the 1960's and 70's. I used to drive up from LA with my dad almost every month until he died in 1987, The few times I have visited since I don't even recognize the place! With my early memories, the Las Vegas I knew and loved is gone forever. Sensing problems from overbuilding, many hotels have sold whole floors to Arabs for their exclusive use, while the city has been flooded with over 10,000 Muslims, the most worthless people on the planet, in my opinion. Las Vegas is gone, and I no longer visit. Binions and the formerly great Fremont Street is no more, victim to far too much greed, avarice and stupidity.
Binion’s is still a powerful brand that has power to live on. The problem is that the brand is trapped in a tired, asbestos laden structure that won’t be able to financially take advantage of all the positive changes and visitor trends on Fremont street. The Binion's Tower is very likely to be the next Las Vegas demolition project.
Thanks, they are sealed off because its easier for the hotel security to sweep each floor. If you tear the tape, they know someone has entered or staying in a room.

*Steve Wynn then dumped the Golden Nugget and changed the name of the company to Mirage Corp. Then he started building the Treasure Island Casino. All the other casinos followed the same "paradigm" unfortunately.*
Used to be called THE MINT! first place i stayed when i went to LasVegas back in 1980.
TY very interesting, I can remember driving down Fremont street!
Dirk Diggler all the teens would cruise Fremont Street every weekend
thx I had to watch the video again!
i was working at the 4 queens doing the renovations to the hotel rooms when you did this video
always wanted to just wander off and explore lol
Hi MM, did they only renovate the one tower? Shame, the North Tower is fairly grim and I'm staying there in December. But hey, no RF!!
Thanks for sharing!
I'd love to go in there before they implode it!
Stay at the four queens, they let you use the pool
Now I understand what is that shop near the back entrance: the former checkin of the hotel...Been at Binion's two weeks ago ( June 2023)
I luv your channel!
Busy mom Cupcake 1308 we luv you watching! Keeps us motivated to make more!
Living in Las Vegas my whole life
Can you do a video on the airstrip in Jean, nevada?
Thank's for the tour.
wow - riveting
At 1:36 you are looking at the Lot that started it all "Block 16"
Binion is so famous that you can't play Bonanza Bingo without seeing his name on the sheet!
I’m here right now and it seems to be open.
For the record, that tower was originally Del Webb's Mint Hotel and Casino that was later bought by Jack Binion.
very first hotel I ever stayed in vegas before I moved here.
Condos,maybe. Yeah,I would live there.
Holy shit have those blue towels been there since 2009 just rotting away lol.
Was in that pool in 2023, it is open during warmer months
Great video.
Those old TV will be worth a lot of money soon.. They are the only ones that are not spying on you with their internal cameras and microphones
LOL - way to spread paranoia. It is not possible for a TV to spy on you, but your cellphone..... that is another story.
@@elouisevanhelsing3430 those smart TVs do spy on you.
If they start an office fire in the Binion, it would likely drop flat like the WTC 7 building. Get Larry Silverstein on that.
Still lights, clean water in the toilet, looks relatively clean. I'm surprised there isn't a bunch of transients living there
Binions is not closed dopey. The casino is roaring and open 24 hours a day on the ground floor. Only the rooms are closed. No one wants the bums anywhere near it.
@@acerothstein4755 no need for the rudeness obviously I thought it was closed wasn't aware by the video especially the title that it was still operating. I guess the uploader is dopey too
@@acerothstein4755 also just because the casino still operating doesn't mean it's far off that someone might get into the rooms once and a while. Understandable no one wants homeless living there but there isn't barbed wire for pete's sake lol I'm sure there's been a sneak in or two
I actually stayed there before they closed off and roofed over Fremont street. I liked it.
The canopy over Fremont actually saved downtown. Before that, it looked like Reno.
That was cool.It looks like a lot of stuff still just sittin around for being closed for ,what 8yrs now?
Blimpus Rock Videos I know right, those televisions could be used on the casino floor. Lol. JP Can you imagine the picture quality?
Pause it at 1:05...what if the Grady twins were standing at the end of that hallway? Danny's somewhere riding his big wheel.
Que creepy music..
Red Rum
Was your Grandfather Meyer Lansky? Or is that not something one should ask? lol
Wow. Matt Damon sneaking in Binion's Hotel, videoing and post it on You Tube. Cool!
How did you get access to go into the tower?
I stayed there this week....part of the hotel is back open.
How did you guys get access inside the building/permission?
What a shame. Binion's was once great! I played & stayed for every WSOP from 1989 to 2003.
Interesting video. Thanks.
Vintage TVs!
That was the Legendary Mint Hotel before that right?
And drone footage downtown that was cool
Mike Pulk Thanks, you loving your Mavic?
Living in Las Vegas Won't have it till next Tuesday didn't pay for express shipping lol.
Ya learn somethin new everyday!
What do you film with
2:07 Damn, I want that woodgrain TV.
Why? To play an old-school gaming system on?
I’m so confused. Is Binions part of Fort Apache hotel? And did they ever reopen the tower after it closed or is it demolished?
A portion of the tower is still closed. Fort Apache is the newly remodeled rooms
Why are the rooms sealed?Hey guys you sure have a great taste of music.I love it.
Thanks, they are sealed off because its easier for the hotel security to sweep each floor. If you tear the tape, they know someone has entered or staying in a room.
They have a pool up top that still looks full with the deck chairs still set up. it's like ghosts stay there
