Do you place the steel wool loosely inside the whisk, or do you pack it in there real tight??? I thought about doing this as part of the Independence Day celebration that I have at my house. It seems like it would be the right time for something like this!!!
VICTOR THOMAS Oh it does, maybe diffraction is better word to use though. Here are good articles about it www.kenrockwell.com/tech/diffraction.htm www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/diffraction-photography.htm
Hello Alex or someone who can answer me. On 2:01 picture, the vision was so damn awesome. How did you get that brigtness effect even tho theres no light out there? Is that the setting of ur reflex? do most of reflex has a function of that? Need answer.
I love this! i been wanting to do this! I seen some people that do it with a person in front or a model. would you know how they do it wit ha a model in front?
Really reeeaaallyyy cool ! Thanx for have shared the manual infos with your photos ( and sorry I don't speak english very weel ) Did you used lightroom after or filter uv , or are your photos " natural " ? Thank you for sharing your cool video and technic 👌
What are you reasons behind using an ISO of 100 compared to a higher ISO? I was researching this and came across a website that was using a higher ISO so I was just curious. I would love to try this and want to make sure I have my camera set up proper.
We just use Aaron's 60d running magic lantern to record at 2 different levels to we can prevent clipping. And here we just used a Ravelli video tripod, but normall I use a Slik.
You have to pull it apart, fire starts when it has fuel (your material) and has its balance (air, too much is bad, too little is not enough.) Pulling it apart keeps oxygen circulating keeping it flaming.
dude you can do everything with that camera i think if you get the two lenses that are available it does everything a cannon or nikon would minus all the 100ds of equipment
Ruff Rider Go there with a flashlight/or any kind of light source and someone will focus on the light in live view(i recommand manual focus).Use 5/10 second, you don`t need 25 second long exposure.
We put magnesium in the middle of the wool a couple years back stood on a bridge an used a 8ft rope looked amazing for 3 seconds then the magnesium melted through the wisque
+Sehq Plays Focal length has nothing to do with DOF or apertures... Focal length is basically how 'zoomed in' a lens is. Depth of field refers to the amount of the image in focus...
A smaller aperture is used to compensate the brightness that will be caused by the long shutter speed. It would also help in getting a lot more things in focus.

yeah with 15 seconds you should be able to get a good steelwool shot, if you arent sure about manual focussing I would suggest lowering your aperture however :)
It's not really a program. It's a series of scripts I put together. If you want some more information about it, send us a message here or on our Facebook page. -Aaron
mine turned out really well but i forgot to detach my dog from it's leash first
sick :D

stop playin funny buggers snarkie
SnarkieVlogs 😂😂😂😂
Now you got a hot dog
Mine turned out to be a disaster. Maybe next time I'll "take it outside" like the fireman told me. Something like you did.
Don't tell me you did this in your living room.
@@user-do6gr5ww5e I did in kitchen😒
If you randomly splash gasoline on the ground where you are standing, it adds a nice effect.
Explosive effect I'd imagine :D
@@steventritton4245 i don't think it will be explosive... just litle bit of lighter LOL
thanks for the artists that help others and make great ideas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So cool! Definitely going to try this! Thanks!

I love that by every picture you put the gear and settings you were using
My dad thought I was watching porn when he goes uh uh uh
Same here 😂
🤣
joe rank 😂😂😂
Literally saw this video monday night, next day got the supplies and uploaded my video :)
sweet! I know my students will want to do it -- I am nervous….. they're 5th graders!
cool video and pics! Did you try standing on a box or ladder for higher elevation so that you get a more uniform shape from the sparks?
That was a satisfying "Let's go outside!" Haha keep up the good work!

Dude I loved you in "Rush Hour"! What was it like working with Chris Rock?
Great video, awesome how-to. Thank you for taking the time to post this.
Watched this long time ago, but gonna rewatch it again because it’s on my recommended
How bad do the sparks hurt? Also do you suggest any safety material like eyewear or long sleeves and headwear like you wore?
+Motion Matter Pictures The sparks dont really hurt and I didnt have any safety material.. :)
Thanks for letting us know!
ISO 200, SHUTTER SPEED 30, F/22 YOU'LL GET THE BEST SHOT THERE.
No! f22 is bad. It distorts the image a lot.
Nah it doesn't at all.
VICTOR THOMAS Oh it does, maybe diffraction is better word to use though. Here are good articles about it www.kenrockwell.com/tech/diffraction.htm

I wouldnct agree with f22 but yeah. And also, change the white balance as well.
Very cool tutorial and demonstration Alex.

Did u used any kind of back up light cos usually long exposure shot at night does not appear dat much light the background n person too!
Wow!! That first one looked amazing! The other's too! But dude, for the first time that looked crazy good!! 😄
This is so awesome, I'll definitely have to give it a go sometime!
Once you adjust the shutter speed, does it take alot of individual pictures or does it take one 25 second long picture?
Depending on your shutter speed, when you press the shutter is exposes the sensor with the light being captured. It is just one picture
Oh. When i did it i adjusted the shutter speed then clicked the botton to take a regular poctures and it took 25 individual pictures
Olympus one
So you will need at least one other person to take the photos or can you set a timer with burst shots or timelapse if you're by yourself?
That’s great info. Thanks. We are going to give it a shot.
Sweet vid. Did you use one steel wool for each shot?
Beautiful what cloth u used inside that
I love this! i been wanting to do this! I seen some people that do it with a person in front or a model. would you know how they do it wit ha a model in front?

How far should the camera be placed to catch everything in the frame???
I like the pic specs you guys do. Do you guys photoshop every single one?
Lowes. You can find 00 wool though at most hardware stores.
Your videos and channel is awesome!
What are you reasons behind using an ISO of 100 compared to a higher ISO? I was researching this and came across a website that was using a higher ISO so I was just curious. I would love to try this and want to make sure I have my camera set up proper.
The higher ISO would pick up more of everything else as well. The lower ISO is attempting to just have the sparks show.
you get more noise if you use a higher iso
We just use Aaron's 60d running magic lantern to record at 2 different levels to we can prevent clipping. And here we just used a Ravelli video tripod, but normall I use a Slik.
How come I can't get my steel wool to stay light? It only "goes" if I blow on it but when I stop the fire dies down.
There must be able in between the steel-wool, just try to pull it apart , stretch it , and than light it.
You have to pull it apart, fire starts when it has fuel (your material) and has its balance (air, too much is bad, too little is not enough.) Pulling it apart keeps oxygen circulating keeping it flaming.
i did this a while ago but these look much better. I have a lot of wool left I think I'm gonna do it again in a better scenario.
I love my D7000! Bought it new when I was 16. I'm definitely going to try this!
does it matter if I have a nikon D3300 or would it look just as good also?
IT WILL STILL LOOK EPIC, I know you asked this 3 years ago. Better late than never right?
Will I be able to do this with my sony a6000 ?
+Steven Sae as long as you can alter your shutter timeyou should be able to do this :)
dude you can do everything with that camera

What was your focus point?
Pretty sure one of us just stood out there while the other one focused. -aaron
Ruff Rider Easy enough to measure distance and manual focus to the point, set D/F where you want it. ;-)

How do you put the steelwool on fire? are you soaking it with a flamable liquid? Or does it burn by itself?
Matthijs Noort obviously not 😂😂😂 never burned steel wool as a kid and threw it at people? 😂
Whoo great video.. I love it. Keep going the good work..
how do you light the steel wool?
Jonah Press battery
Use 9volt battery
How did you turn Fire on the steel wool??
Can you please re-upload your water droplet photography video! Thanks!
Hiii
Can you shoot this using a canon 18-55 mm or a 55-250mm lens?
thank you, Alex! great video. you look like you really enjoy photography. k eep it up
May i ask something ? if i use different type of steel wool affected ?
And thank you for camera settings. So many posts nice pics but no info. :)
Hello sir... I have the steel wool. But when i tried to take a picture like this. My steel wool wouldn't light up.
how do you get the white color for the sparkles?
White balance adjustment in Lightroom. -aaron
thanks Alex's Photo and Video
Alex's Photo and Video Did you shoot using RAW images?
Dan Forbes of course
i really enjoyed this video, thank you, Alex
How do you set focus on that 18-55 lens? Do I need to focus to infinity?
Thanks.
im new around dslr pics and get noticed you used the same camera i got , never expected should get too awesme stuff XD
We put magnesium in the middle of the wool a couple years back stood on a bridge an used a 8ft rope looked amazing for 3 seconds then the magnesium melted through the wisque
Do you need to use that specific type of steel wool?
00 grade or finer is needed, otherwise it won't ignite. The finer it is, the easier it will light/stay lit.
@@ashtherion ok thank you
Wow really cool, thanks for sharing!
Do you light the end of the wool on fire?
You can light any part at least I believe, but once lit you have to act fast to emit the Sparks.
could u tell me the purpose of setting mall aperture? i prefer big aperture to get brighter photo
Small Aperture has a stronger "Focal Length'" or depth of field. It keeps more of the photo in focus.
+Sehq Plays Focal length has nothing to do with DOF or apertures... Focal length is basically how 'zoomed in' a lens is. Depth of field refers to the amount of the image in focus...
+Nick Gourlie I know. I've been a photographer for 3 years. FOCAL LENGTH has nothing to do with DOF. APERTURE does.
A smaller aperture is used to compensate the brightness that will be caused by the long shutter speed. It would also help in getting a lot more things in focus.

Very nice.. Thanks for uploading..
Does anyone know what other things( more unique) I could do with wire wool, because I'm taking these pictures for a photography exam. Thanks :)
Looks freakin' awesome-gotta try it.
How do you move in a circle while spinning the wool? When I do light photography I always end up hitting myself with light.
Awesome pics.
Awesome vid guys
Great Vid! What white balance did you use? Make much difference?
We shot it in RAW then just modified the balance to look cool. So not really.
is there any video-cam that remains its focus when set up once?
in your dslr set the focus to manual and focus on the point you will stand.
My steel wool doesn't fire up please tell me a trick ..... I only tried with a matchstick
Thanks for the video but you left out a critical step...how you LIT the steel wool...esp via the 9V battery.
Not sure why mine wont catch fire it just kinda of burns but doesnt self sustain. Tried fluffing as much as I could
That was cool man. I like your suggestion on the egg whiskers and different camera settings for different results.
What do you light it up with ?
Is this dangerous? Will this cause fire if not careful??
My steel wool just doesnt burn more than 1 or 2 seconds... tried spreading it too..
Can Canon Sx60 HS able to capture this photo ??
+Abdullah AL Saud if you can alter your shutter time on it, and choose the focus point yourseld I see no reason why it wouldn't be able to do it :)
yeah with 15 seconds you should be able to get a good steelwool shot, if you arent sure about manual focussing I would suggest lowering your aperture however :)
Thanks! Terrific video and easy to follow, from an old teacher to a young teacher!
don't we need to use white balance to central?
How did you make the screen lighter?
PARABENS ALEX PELO TRABALHO, SHOW DE BOLA...
Pretty cool stuff!
That was awesome!
Can i do it with GoPro? and how to sett? :D
have you had a look at a glidecam yet?
Dig it brother, good stuff!!!!!
nice example will give this a go = thanks for posting

this video helped me so much!
Do you happen to know which one it is?
So At What Point Do You Take The Flick??
When I started this video I had to double check to make sure I wasn't watching Fail Army 😂😂
which the grade of steelwool for spinning?
the finest you can find
Excellent!
What computer monitor do you use?
