When you read reviews of the “hot hatch class” GTI might not be the absolute fastest, or absolute best handling, but in the end, it is the one you want to own, and use on a daily basis!
I agree with you in theory, but owning a VW can be a headache. Mine was constantly in the shop which made it a poor daily driver, even though it was a new vehicle.
It’s been around 40 years for a reason. Best all around daily hot hatch.
I tuned mine and added KW v3 coilover suspension and now it is fast and handles amazingly 🎉
@@JohnnyBitcoin I think calling a GTI fast is a stretch. There is a video on UA-cam where a new Prius almost beats one 😂
@@anthonykiedis1765 yeah that's why I said it was tuned 400 HP on a little guy fast AF
I traded my 7.5 for the base model mk8 about two months ago. Love it. It’s my favorite car ever.
Base model is the way to go I'm waiting for mine
The GTI is a great car as DSG or manual but I think it's best in manual form. Certainly would watch a review from you of a manual GTI. If you can review a 2024 it'll be a 380. If you find a 2023, I recommend trying to find a 40th Anniversary GTI. Like you did with the 40th GLI. Cheers bro! Always solid unbias reviews.
A manual makes no sense for a daily driver, slogging through stop and go traffic every day during the work commute.
VW is my absolute hero for making this in an automatic. I want a fun little hatch to drive, but i do NOT want a manual. Considered the GR corolla or a civic type R, but those don’t come in automatic 🤦🏻♂️
I was debating getting the Civic SI or the Civic R, Acura Integra Type S... DSG GTI is as fast the Civic R and gets better MPG better more quiet ride, about $15k less expensive. Much Faster and better ride than the Civic SI, just as good mpg, about the same price, The Integra is basically a more pricey Civic type R. The GTI S with the DSG trans is a very hard car to beat for practicality and performance, usefulness. Drop an APR stage 2 tune in it and it becomes a beast when poked
The ORIGINAL hot hatch!
@Brian_Eugene_Lee Europe push back the Euro 7 regulation... so maybe there is a chance for manual in the future, maybe.
@Brian_Eugene_Leeyou have to get the 380 trim for manual
Holy moly... what a beautiful scenery!
What are your thoughts on a new daily driver, go with the GTI or pay a bit more and go with a Golf R?
you're exactly right when you compared it to the Acura and Honda. the interior of the GTI is so much like its bigger brother Audi. it makes you feel you got your monies worth. Plus, the versatility of the GTI makes it a great everything daily driver. I owned 3 different generations of the GTI and even owning a Tesla Model S Performance, I miss driving characteristic of the GTI. that's why I watched your video I'm thinking of getting another one and if I should get the newer one like here or go back to MK7.
Wait for 2025 . It gets cool new wheels and buttons back on the steering wheel!
Of course Golf GTI is better care maaaaaaate! 🇦🇺
That isn't the facelift GTI 2024. That is the old model from 2020-2023. It doesn't have the slider light and the smaller screen.
I like the new wheel design.
I looked at a 380 S today and the infotainment screen had 2 knobs. The one on left controlled volume. Is this something they added to the 380s?
The S model has the base infotainment. You gain the knobs, but lose some other features like XM radio. A lot of people prefer the knobs.
Super sharp in that grey
Looks nice!!
5:02 GTIs in the US don't seem to have the "Auto Hold" function (blank button beneath parking brake switch), which is a shame as, IMHO, it's very handy especially in city driving. Is it cost-cutting or due to some obscure vehicle regulation? Some auto Golfs (non-GTI) in other markets don't have it because they have a torque converter auto, not a DSG.
The auto hold/start stop feature is almost universally hated in the US. I haven’t met a single person here who actually likes that.
@@TellurdogIsayhi start stop and auto hold are two different things. Google what auto hold is, I use it in my 7.5 Golf R all the time. I wouldn’t buy a car without that function.
I have the Golf GTI 8.
The handling, driving , acceleration, etc are wonderful!
But the ergonomics is terrible.
Almost all of the buttons are touch (very unsafe while driving).
Even the steering wheel comes with capacitive buttons.
Scalepaper plaid not Clark plaid or other cloth materials people say that is wrong.
That’s not houndstooth, it’s tartan.
Thanks
It’s neither. Scalepaper plaid
@@kevs2good133 scalepaper tartan plaid is the correct answer
What’s with the all the crappy gloss black dodads? Especially on the steering wheel controls….
That is not a hounstooth design on the seats, it's more plaid. :)
Does the 2024 GTI carry-over the haptic touch steering wheel buttons or has that problem been addressed with a revised wheel with actual push buttons controls??
Capacitive, which I actually really like. I think it’s silly that reviewers complain. Owners really don’t complain
Dude I knooow, those horrible touchscreen buttons are the only thing that's prevented me from getting this vehicle.
I thought they'd have fixed it by now, I swore they said they were going to, but they haven't. And now this is going to he the last year they make the GTI... so I guess we won't be getting one with regular buttons.. hopefully the future Golf R's get real buttons..
@@eskimocheeks9911
I actually really love the UI & haptic, multi functional, buttons on my GTI base trim.
Also, it’s the last year a stick shift is going to be produced.
But the GTI automatic will be produced until 2007 or 8.
Maybe it won’t be sold in North America that long. But I’d imagine it’s safe to say that the 2025 certainly will.
Don’t know about the earlier MK8 but the haptic buttons work fine in the ‘24 SE and easy to get used to.
@@jbowgo9599
I have the 23. It’s fine. I think it was just the 22 that had some glitches
Yes, definitely would appreciate a review of the manual version!
It's the same car. It's just slower, produces more emissions, and uses more fuel.
I'm wondering if it's worth waiting for 2025 GTI.. I've heard there are some improvements including more horse power.
No manual in 2025 for any golf models.
Also those Honda Acura products have really noisy cabins. They sound like you're driving in a 55 gal. oil drum.
Like that HP!!!
380 is not the HP number. The car has 241 HP and 273 lb/ft
Looking at one now. Would be a fun car! Thanks!
Volkswagen is like Samsung android phone . Looks pretty good fresh in box. Once u start using it cost of maintaining is crazy and the value goes down . No one wants to buy a fairly used Volkswagen 😮
That’s not houndstooth It’s more plaid design.
do you know when mk8 facelift is coming to the US?
25 I believe
What camera is he using to record while driving?
Would much rather get the type r. Why? I dunno.
Does the GTI feel more refined and quieter on the road than the Type S and Type R?
Yes, more quiet than the civic Si or the R... DSG GTI is as fast the Civic R and gets better MPG
The GTI is off the shared platform with many Audis, so that makes it seem more refined. Also at least on the manual, the gearing is kinda long and relaxed. For me type R drove better, the clutch was more progressive and I preferred the shifter and it was already ready to go in top gear. The GTI hangs around 2500 at over 75 MPH vs the over 3K on the Hondas so that makes it quieter also. The gearing, quieter ride and I like the seats better make ti seem more luxurious if thats what you prefer. The DSG makes the car even more sedate to daily drive also.
@@signkutter9218 Please check Nurburgring laptimes for both cars😉
Don’t understand compare automatics to manuals
Nice review, put the interior is plaid, not houndstooth..
It would look much better as a two door!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The 2024 has power fold mirrors but my 2023 does not 😢
I can't get over the fact that VW has killed an icon. Those touch buttons are my red line, I won't cross it, ever. Even if gas hits $100, I'll still keep my mk7.
It would be great if he could talk just a LITTLE BIT FASTER
VW yaaaa~
Do they make a 6 speed??
Yes
Yeah it has a really sloppy long throw manual.
3:00 does anybody know what that front lever does on the side of the seat? is the drivers seat power reclining but manual height adjust? just curious to know
I think its lumbar adjustment.
thanks@@Sneeder88
@@jordanimatedstreaming It is not lumbar. It is in fact the adjustment for the backrest. That is the only power adjustment for the entire seat. The lumbar adjustment is positioned at the left side of the backrest and it’s manually adjustable.
@@LordStaind thanks
Manual recliner
I still prefer the MK7 but this is very cool. Idk why but the MK7 looks more like a drivers car than the MK8.
I think the MK6 and MK7s look more like a driver's car because they're shorter. The MK8 looks great, but it's getting a bit long in the side profile.
Boys & females are gonna love this car.
Should I wait for the electric version?
The poorman’s BMW?
That makes no sense my guy it would be more funny to say “poor mans Audi”
I could buy a A3 sedan for the same price and this GTI would walk right over it!
@@kennak476 unless it was snowing and the a3 is Quattro….
@@tdub25i drove through a foot and half of snow in a lowered mk7 last year with blizzark snow tires. Gti is very capable in the snow because of the LSD
Bmw... the poorman's Porsche?
$40k for a Volkswagen 😂😂😂
