There is a version of this where he sings this whilst busking on the pavement outside Central Station in Glasgow as the people go about their everyday business. Most of them totally unaware of the genius who is performing in front of them. Filmed in the early '70's I believe. Check it out, you won't be disappointed.
What a hugely haunting performance - poignantly sung, his back to the camera, to an absent audience. The best version of this song by a racing mile. Genius.
I love the entire dvd but I especially love the treatment he gives "Old Laughin Lady" here at the end of it even w/the credits rolling by. It's supreme, High Art.
Robert Skolozdra Me too. I’ve Seen Neil in concert 20 times and seeing this in the theater almost felt like being at a show. Had to resist the urge to applaud at the end of the tunes.
This si one of My favourites to play, unfortunately my fingers are a little stiff to play as l wish., Mr. Neil always the best, now l'm the old man after '73 first time l heard it.
***** why would you even mention him in the same breath as Neil Young. Will they be listening to blunt in 10 years time never mind 40 no not a chance. Blunt isn't in the same galaxy as the master.
The real version of this is recorded slightly sharp which sounds a lot better. Neil doesnt retune for no reason. This recorded has been slowed down to detune it. I much prefer to actual recording which has the whole song in it
Great version rendition whatever .My favourite by a mile is the Unplugged performance .This version has not got the anger or sound of the unplugged version .However it has a lonesome feel to end an incredible in my mind very personal movie .The Uk,s most acerbic critic The Doctor said it made him cry
Did you alter the playback to make it in standard pitch? All the other videos of this are a bit lower in tune which I think is probably true to how it was originally played. This one is nice because I can play along without having to retune my guitar.
+MegaPianoPaul Thanks, I suspected; it had that great droning sound. I"ve heard his standard tuned version as well (nice too, but the double drop D makes it different, a little darker, more haunting)
Pretty simple but... as always with Neil, the trickiest parts are the sounds between the notes and his feel. And of course the vocal. Make it your own and have fun, he cannot be duplicated.

Genius.
I totally agree.
+mikecarrs +1
+mikecarrs Check out the version on Yesteryear of the Horse video.
agree, agree, agree. perhaps one of his compositions lyrically and musically
well said, sir. timeless expression
Only Neil, would put his best song at the end with the credits.
Always come back to this. We all have our own old laughing lady. 😢
Neil is the best. I was fortunate enough to smoke weed in this iconic venue.

I saw this film in the theater with some friends after work one night. Just when it came out. I love this version of the song. One of the best. Thanks

Many of his songs are in drop D tuning and there's a few in double drop D.
He's a legend and I thank you. ✌️💜💯
A genuine troubadour, one of a kind. The best.
Neil weaves a beautiful thread through the fabric of my life, since I was just a boy. Not sure what music would mean to me without his wonder.
you guys sounds pert gay to me.....@James Curtis
Much of his music is like coming home for the holidays after being gone for a very long time.
Damn....well said 🔥
well said . That about sums it up
This is my favorite performance of this song

That's how you play an acoustic guitar...brilliant..
Great version. Need to repost all the way to the end. Too cool & thanks.
Thanks for sharing this masterpiece... I love this version..
you can't have a cupboard .....if there ain't no walls...
Thankyou Neil.
This guitar part is perfection.
Man Neil, you just take my breath away.
"Don't call Pretty Peggy /
She can't hear you no more" : (. . .

@brianferris6118 what?
Neil is just cool and old skool at the same time. They don't make them like him anymore.
The only other one like Neil is Tom Petty.
petty is like a milk shake compared to this@@paulmcconkey637

you can buy this entire concert dvd I bought it at wall mart its freaking awesome.
It really is amazing and heart felt.
thanks for the info, I'm gunna look for it next time
awesome!!!! so great
this video cuts short now. it used to play all the way through. where can i get the full version back again..?
I'm sure that Neil Young is not fully recognized as to just how good he was/is.
When she leaves, she leaves nothing at all.
Never heard something like that on an acoustic guitar.
then it was A good Nash Stills and very young Young Neil!!
f*ck me. I love his compositions. so glad I have his vocal range to give him justice when we pay. I love you Neil
hope sometime when you're bored.
The best version but strangel ending
Hey, folks. I found the full recording, not upcut at the end. Better audio too.

There's a rumble in the bedroom ... ?
f'n awesome
she don't keep time and she don't score. freedom!
young wrote this when he was eighteen or nineteen...
RIP Queen Elizabeth
yer a brave man to play about little old ladys!
the one from unplugged is great also .
un instant d'exception
omfg, how could you cut that off!
cut off at end, not cool

Fucking awesome
I sing and play this song a lot ..... but it don't sound like this
Around the time he had serious brain surgery..
we can play through the haze
What happened to the end?
It's about the third song on UA-cam that I like, that has cut off on the last word... Ruins the whole song.
WHY DIDN'T YOU POST THE WHOLE THING?~?!?!?
Double drop D.
+MegaPianoPaul Thanks, I suspected; it had that great droning sound. I"ve heard his standard tuned version as well (nice too, but the double drop D makes it different, a little darker, more haunting)
Does anyone have the tab or chords and tuning for this version?
search on youtube for privettricker's cover of this, tuning is double drop D by the way
tnovacekt Was going to say the same thing. He posted the best cover of this I've ever seen.

Don't count score
Absolutely ridiculous guitar play.
