I'm so thankfull for this video. I have a large interest in crisis management, and at the very beggining of this video, although I'm making my way to become a pilot, I realized how the PIOSEE is apliable to every single area of my life. This is a HUGE lesson learned here today.
@@MentourPilot The interesting thing is I studied PR Crisis Management in college and a lot of what you were sharing is very similar to what I learned too. Funny how common sense does not know boundaries of borders or professions.
Thank you for this video. You continue to be an inspiration to so many people all over the world! I'm thinking it would be cool if you could make more videos about how the lessons pilots learn in their training apply to everyday life. Perhaps it's a bit off-genre for your channel, but seeing you explain complex technical things in simple terms makes me think that if anyone can do it, it's gotta be the Mentour!

Some virus with ideas above its station is not an excuse to let the standards slip. I recall a story from the Blitz. Queen mother was once asked if it was a good idea to dress up when visiting the site that just got bombed. Her response? "Of course, they would dress their best too, if they were to visit us"
Absolutely! If you are home instead of in your office or in any public situation where no one can see you always dress as though you were on the job. I learned that I could verbally communicate at my best if "dressed" for my job. If I was home in jeans and a sweatshirt and trying to give a critical presentation on the phone it never worked. I always suited up even though nobody could see me.
@@Dan-oj4iq Actually even staying at home I take a shower every morning, shave, get dressed and have breakfast as usual. Then I go to work at my studio.

I have worked in crisis intervention and management. Your information is very good. Clear, concise, practical,. and applicable in any life crisis no matter what the situation. Very well done and very valuable information, thank you.
So many things that this can be applied to! Way back when I was trained as a road race marshal, starting on smaller circuits and eventually becoming a member of the Isle of Man TT Marshals Association, the routine was similar, although with a different acronym. It's worth noting that some people are just incapable of suppressing panic, hence the importance of an evaluation test before spending big money on training - nobody benefits from spending large amounts on training for a career they are psychologically unsuited to. We saw this with junior marshals who would over-react to incidents with a panic response, or freezing in place. Neither are responses you want in either that role or as an airline pilot!
I do appreciate your passion and involvement in popularising and explaining aviation business to fans and would be pilots. This is twice great of you, that some young people nowadays don't have clearly defined walk of life. You show them what to do to become one of most respected and qualified specialist in the world. If only a few percent will follow, this is great success and a pay for your fine work. By the way, I always loved Swedish pronunciation of English :)
Great advice, thank you. This is not the apocalypse, the economy is not fundamentally flawed, it's not a world war. Stay calm, don't panic, it's all going to be okay.
An excellent and practical life lesson. The best news about this crisis is that Petter is confined to his home, so plenty of great vids will come out of this!
I'm a lowly ex PPL pilot and I've been applying this sort of mindset to my life since I became interested in aviation and it has served me really well even before this current situation, this sort of thinking needs to be taught in schools because decision making in life (especially under stress) is a vital skill.
I can't help but see the parallels between PIOSEE and OODA. I'm also glad that you've put into words something that's been in the back of my mind (from before COVID) about how I learned more about dealing with circumstances that go bad when I was going through flight training that I've anywhere else in my life.
Problem: My girlfriend has left me. Information: She texted me and told me that she never wants to see me again. Options: (1) Contact her asking if she will reconsider. (2) Seek a new girlfriend. (3) Go MGTOW. Select: Select Option (3) Go MGTOW. Execute: Start spending more time on self-improvement and hobbies, more money on myself, and move on with my life. Evaluate: I have more money for my desires, more peace, more free time, and less chance of contracting COVID-19. Winning!
Well, time for a quick system check. Is my dominant hand functioning? Does my other hand function adequately? Do I have internet access? Keep flying until better options present themselves.
Interesting, and still relevant years later. I’d have never named it PIOSEE but the key principles were more or less the same. How two years can change someone, what a perspective change. During most of the pandemic I was on the frontline working in a hospital, “cook” (mostly reheat meals) and cleaner while patients were regularly dying around me. Suddenly we went from being near invisible, unimportant, unworthy of being spoken to directly… to critical and in over our heads. I particularly remember wondering what possible reason humanity could have evolved panic for as I could see no advantage for it. Flight or fight, adrenal dumping, aggression or fear had their uses but I never got the reason for blind panic.
That was very timely content, Mentour. We use CRM in our offices (we are a large architectural practice) and it works mainly because we are always careful to employ people who are open to new ideas, have practical common sense, and are willing to learn and change their behaviours as necessary. In the current economic and health crisis, I think that you are right to say that concepts like POISEE are essential tools that all of us need to succeed in the future. I am reminded of the 1982 Sioux City UA232 DC10 crash, where the three flight deck crew, supported by a Check Captain who came up from the cabin, saved many lives by never giving up. That is the attitude we need these days, whatever our role in society.
Problem: Dog is missing. Information: This video at the beginning lacks a dog. Options: Let dog in or keep out of video. Select: Choose let dog in. Execute: Kid lets the dog in. Evaluate: Video absolutely fantastic with dog.
hi, this is wonderful and gives a very useful guideline!
