  • Episode 200. This is an easy drinking, sherry influenced, Speyside. In the past, I have liked Aberlour a little more, but I am still happy to have this around. Have you tried this or any of the Aberlour core range? What are your thoughts? #whiskyfabric#whiskytube#whiskyneighbour

    Hi John. I love the Abelour 10yr and 12yr. Have yet to try any of their other expressions though. Their website mentions that the Sherry is Oloroso. Love the channel and the reviews. Slainte young man.

    Love your comparisons. I kind of stopped describing the colors because if they add color you’re mind is set on something special then gulp not as great as you expected lol. But if I ever come across the 10 it’s mine 👍. Cheers John I hope things can start feeling normal maybe this will be the new normal. God I hope not. My kids miss their friends and teachers. You guys are their mentors it’s only normal to feel the way they do. Stay safe buddy good luck in the new school year 🥃

      I really wish each distillery had to indicate if they colour or not. Clearer for us, and might make a few think twice. Thank you for your kind words, we get in to teaching because we love helping kids. So hard right now with all the fear and unknown. I am hoping, praying for a vaccine and some good news. Take care!

    The one thing I have found about Aberlour, Balvenie, Dalmore 12 year old's is they are very easy to drink. They are all in my bar for anybody that hasn't really had scotch before. This of course is IMO. The Glengoyne 12 and 10 are very good. Thanks Jon, great vid sir!

      @@elijahfluw4347 I was talking about the old 10 year bottling. 100% Sherry cask. It was affordable and tasty. That said, it has been a long time since I have had it and I'm sure my palate has changed a bit. I have not tried the Forest Reserve. The French Limousin casks could add a nice spice, but I am afraid I can't say.

    This was the first scotch I bought and actually made me interested in whisky. I was flying home from London Heathrow and had £40 kicking around that I figured I might as well spend in the duty free shop rather than convert back and they had a tasting demo with Aberlour. Nice review Jon 🙂 Jacob swears this is the most boring single malt ever made, but I kinda of like my Aberlours, especially the 15y and 16y which are often available at a good price around here. The Glengoyne would outshine the Aberlour, no surprise there, but a good way to get some context for the review 👍
    I can certainly relate to trying times in education, but I often think we have a lot less trouble than other areas.

    • @WhiskyNeighbour
      @WhiskyNeighbour  3 роки тому

      Not sure I would go so far as to say boring, but certainly simple! I don't always compare, but more and more I find myself enjoying an immediate comparison, sharpens the highlights for me. We are struggling a bit in Alberta. Our current government has been reducing Education funding or almost 2 years and now with COVID has not stepped up aside from masks and guidelines. Very hard.

      @@WhiskyNeighbour Sounds tough 🙁 Our institution is suffering economically from lots of students dropping out of education because online education put a lot more demand on their own work discipline without us being able to support them like we usually do. Personally my education is getting off more easily than the others because our current government has a big focus on welfare and in turn the pedagogues - that we educate - needed to work in lots of the welfare systems. Anyways, best of luck with keeping your people motivated and the schools on track - it is mighty important work!

    I haven't tried the two whisky's your comparing today, instead I am trying Jura 12 year old which should be comparable .
    I am enjoying the Jura with its ex-bourbon barrles and oloroso sherry casks and there is a very subtly smoky, petty flavour which has a slight phinolic taste when I add about a teaspoon of water to the dram.

      Good to hear about a Jura. I have not had a Jura release in a long time. I didn't mind their Prophecy release. The 12 sounds interesting as it adds a bit of peat to the ex-bourbon and ex-oloroso casks. I might need to pick up a bottle. Thanks for sharing.

    A lot of naysayers in the comments. Single malts all have their pros and cons. A lot of us have a price range and $69 for this ("cheap" in Ontario) constitutes a splurge. Just bought it, will see for myself soon. No Glengoyne 12 in Ontario.

    There's dozens of Scotches I refuse to buy now. Price to quality ratio being way off. Glengoyne 10 and 12 are great for me. Everyone in the states just argue because of whatever politics they follow. It's embarrassing and shameful. My kids are doing hybrid so they go twice a week and it's only about 10 students per class. They do online 3 days. It's tough for me because Im not a teacher in a salesman. Stay safe friend.

      Glengoyne are solid drams. It is not helping our kids that Adult's just argue and make this political.
