    Thank you for taking the time to make this straight to the point video. It is very helpful!
    Thumbs up on the parenting skills too. It's good to see that there's a few other kids out there being taught accountability, other than just my own. I take the same approach to parenting as well.👍

    As a factory replacement that Pyle sub will work well as long as the ohms are the same as your factory one.

    How did you connect the woofer? Did you do a parallel setup? (from wires from negative to negative, positive to positive, then to the amp)
    The reason I ask, is because if you did a parallel setup on a dual voice 4 ohm sub, the impedance would be half... so 2 ohm which is what the amp requires.

    • @rhinsen
      @rhinsen  8 років тому +1

      The bass from the Pyle sub is subtle as was with the stock sub. Let's face it, the stereo and amp that comes stock is not the best but it certainly gets the job done. But, the blown sub was very noticeable and had to be replaced. I'm satisfied with it. The Pyle, in my opinion, is a slight upgrade from the stock subwoofer. Thanks for the question and comment...

      Sorry, this was an install video not a review of the speaker itself. I found this sound review of the sub here: ua-cam.com/video/KVfszsiMtOI/v-deo.html

    • @thisistheslam
      @thisistheslam 6 років тому

      Why the hell would you want a cheap cellphone camera/mic recording a demo of the sub? The phone won't even pick up most of those sub-100 Hz frequencies lol. You'd need a very good big-body microphone to get a reasonable representation of what that sub sounds like.

  • @thisistheslam
    @thisistheslam 6 років тому

    So the Pyle may SOUND better because of its cone design and materials used to manufacture. A lot of these upgraded sound systems cheap out on materials and just push more powerful drivers and ignore picking good coatings to help clear up the sound as well. Pyle is super-cheap though so I won't expect them to be all that durable in the long run. However, you don't NEED to add amps to most speakers in that class to get better sound. If you had gone with a 2 ohm speaker you'd get the proper volume levels. Pyle's speaker may be more articulate but it will never be as loud as the Infinity/Harmon replacement (not sure what speaker was used in that Soul !). If you want to notice the bass, spend the $50-$70 and find a subwoofer that runs at 2 ohms and handles around 130-150W RMS. That should be what the Infinity/Harmon ran at. I think the system is rated for 440W total RMS in the upgraded sound system, so at least 100W will be allocated to the sub (more likely 150W but if you're in the ballpark you'll be just fine). You always want to feed 75-100% of the power a speaker is rated for if possible as you get the best sound in that power range. Under powering the sub isn't necessarily BAD but it certainly prevents you from getting what you paid for. Good idea for replacing the speaker though! Looks like there's some easy DIY work there that pays off in terms of simplicity.

    • @thisistheslam
      @thisistheslam 6 років тому

      The replacement steps are awesome but a lot of people look for info on stereo setups/repairs and don't know much about electrical resistance and what it does, and the benefits of aftermarket parts and what you can get out of them. The Pyle speaker will work just fine I'm sure, you're just reducing the overall volume output by using a 4 ohm speaker in pace of a 2 ohm speaker. But your comments about the sub being hardly noticeable is a universally-shared feeling in the Soul's upgraded audio system. It's muddier than expected and doesn't make a big impact on the system as a whole. Maybe they fixed this issue in the newer ones with the Harmon Kardon upgrade, but I can't speak to that yet.

    Thought you were crazy. But said what the hell anyways. Who had time to tear up their car for a subwoofer anyways. So I took a leap of faith and went to town with the box cutter. Worked perfectly. Cut right out. Snaps right back in lol what the heck hahaha. Thanks for this video!

    I realize this video is over a year old but Im hoping you still check the comments on it. I have a question regarding 2 Ohm and 4 Ohm. Im looking to replace the blown sub in my 2011 Kia Soul. I noticed you went with a 4 Ohm Speaker as opposed to 2 Ohm. The Amp is rated for 2 Ohm as it was a 2 Ohm sub. 4 Ohm subs are much cheaper but Im reading mixed reviews on audio quality. Will it sound as deep as the previous one? Like you I don't want to start a chain reaction but I also don't want to buy something thats going to be not equivalent of what the factory was.

    • @rhinsen
      @rhinsen  5 років тому

      I have since upgraded the speaker and will make an updated video soon. I replaced the Pyle with the Skar Audio IX-8 D2 sub. The Skar speaker is physically bigger in depth so I had to make a wood speaker ring spacer for it to fit. The well behind the speaker is too shallow so this must be done in order for it to fit. It's a little extra work but it is well worth it. The Pyle is a 4-ohm speaker and sounded fine but the Skar sub is 2-ohms and is properly matched to the amp. The sound from the Skar is noticeably better than the Pyle. The Skar costs a bit more than the Pyle but it's a much better speaker and with the proper resistance for the amp, it sounds much better. I really wish I would have installed the Skar to begin with. I installed it about six months ago and it has been going strong ever since, I highly recommend.

The 2 Ohm Speakers are about $40.00 more from what Im seeing

    • @rhinsen
      @rhinsen  5 років тому

      I don't want to remove the speaker but I will show as much as possible in the update video. I basically used my jigsaw and cut wood rings to use as spacers. I can't remember what thickness of wood I used but I probably used 2 rings and they were probably 1/2" thick. So two rings (layers) would have been about 1" thick total.

    • @rhinsen
      @rhinsen  5 років тому

    The subwoofer in my Kia Soul is blown out and I just want to disconnect it. Is it really as simple as running the box knife along the perimeter of the cutout and disconnecting the cables or is the anything else I should know?

    • @rhinsen
      @rhinsen  7 років тому +1

      That is exactly what I did, used a box knife to cut around the speaker while staying in the little groove. But it's not like cutting through butter, it took a lot of "controlled" force to cut through the plastic so in that regards it's not that easy but very doable...

      At the time, I just wanted to replace the blown stock speaker (at minimal cost) and the Pyle worked fine in that respect. The Pyle is a 4-ohm dual voice coil and the Skar is a 2-ohm dual voice coil which properly matches to the stock amp. Updated video coming soon for the Skar sub. If you want to spend more money and time making speaker rings (so the Skar will fit) then the Skar is 100% the way to go, I'm way more happy with it then the Pyle.

      +jon yoko Make note of where speaker wires are hooked up to stock speaker, pay attention to the polarity (negative and positive). Now remove the wires from the stock speaker and cut off the connector and strip the insulation on the end of each wire. You should have four single wires that are stripped on each end. Now just hook wires up to each side of the speaker, positive to positive and negative to negative. That's how I did it anyway and the sub is working great. Good luck...

      There are UA-cam videos for that. Granted, my comment comes 9 months after your comment was posted, but anyone else stumbling through will notice it. Tweeters aren't too difficult. Definitely run component speakers if you have the chance - the sound stage in a Kia Soul is primed for component speakers on the front doors and dash. You don't HAVE to, but you get the best sound from component setups when the speaker placement is the way it is in the Soul.
