I've always wanted to train in muay Thai and even got encouragement from my father to do so, but my mom wasn't having any of it (both my parents are Thai lol). Instead they enrolled me in wrestling (Greco Roman / freestyle / folkstyle) and taekwondo. It wasn't until high school until I started going to a boxing gym and that changed my mindset a lot in terms of watching and appreciating combat sports.

@@Dude24638 Im not a professional fighter, but if you're talking about a combination of martial arts, wrestling and boxing would be the perfect starting point for anyone getting into MMA. If you can master the fundamentals of hand to hand combat, the sky is the limit. Also to answer the question directly, wrestling is ground/grapple. Boxing is clinch/striking.

Right? And I see a trend where people say "Well, TKD is pretty good but they don't use hands...???". I will agree that Olympic style TKD doesn't use hands, it seems, but many TKD schools, especially OLD STYLE (not the Mcdojo ones) do use both hands and feet. After all, TKD means "the way of hands and feet". Have trained in some very good TKD schools, but have seen some that are just "belt factories". You can find schools in any of the arts that are just watered down.

Finally someone who knows what he's talking about. Taekwondo's "advanced kicks" may be useless, but if a muay thai or kickboxing roundhouse kick is highly effective, than a Taekwondo roundhouse kick to the ribcage is highly effective. Mechanically they are similar, only Muay Thai uses the shin and Taekwondo uses the ball of the foot.

Depends on the level of Judoka. Many Judoka don’t truly learn kuzushi until they are a black belt and would thus not be able to perform any kind of koshi waza in the street without they’re back being taken. So a black belt in either might make your point valid but like a blue belt in bjj to an orange belt judo. I’ll take the bjj blue belt everytime.

I think the same argument you made for wrestling being goat status you can make for BJJ. If your opponent is within reach you can take them down. From there you can control them and tire them out, tie them up and ground and pound or where BJJ has an advantage is the submission game. Also if a BJJ practitioner gets taken down somehow, they are comfortable working off their backs, unlike wrestlers. I agree with most of the list but i would put BJJ up in goat status with MT and wrestling for the same reasons.
