Best Yes lineup of all time. Bruford, Rabin, Downes and Sherwood all deserve respect, among the other dudes, but this is it, when I think about Yes, that's the lineup who comes to my mind. R.I.P. Alan and Chris.
The line up with Bruford and Howe did The Yes Album, the line up with Bruford Wakeman and Howe did Fragile and Close To The Edge. Those three records made them famous and they never reached those heights again instrumentally after Bruford left.
The Squire walkin it out, with that big 'ol grin on his face, Howe engaging Wakey in a duel, Little Jon yelling 'turn it up!', and faithful Alan keeping it all together!
Here it is September 2024 and I am seeing this video for thee first time. I love it! South Side of the Sky has always been my favorite Yes song. Their sound is excellent here.
I was there, I wasn't a YES fan back then, obviously I am now, how I wish I could message myself back in 2002 to listen to Yes for a solid year to appreciate this, how I still kick myself to this day, arrrrrr!!
It also reminds me a lot of The Tales of Topicgraphical Oceans works...which, in my opinion is a masterpiece. I stil listen to it. This type music just takes me to a wonderful place in my mind. :) I'm out to find this now to add to my "YES" collection. Thank you!!!
Wow - never thought of the similarity to Tales. But you're right! SSoTS is one of my very most favourite Yes songs. Drum intro and immediate hard groove following are just fantastic...
I saw this same set when they played Sweden Rock Festival same year (also featuring Jethro Tull and Wishbone Ash). It was the first time they played SOTS on tour since the early days, and we had all heard the rumours. Jon smiled and asked if there were any requests, and everyone around me shouted for this song!
What type of beautiful instrument is Jon playing??? Oh, I would love for someone to do an interview and allow us to see his great mass of personal musical instruments and tell us what they are and where they originated. I LOVE this and have never heard it before.
@iwillrocknroll4eva it is a customised Martin Backpacker guitar - he added a midi interface and the scroll headstock and used it extensively on his solo "Tour of the Universe"
Yes not invited into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but the Beasty Boys are being inducted...the friggin' Beasty Boys AND Guns and Roses - neither band can carry Yes's guitar cases, even without Rick W. and Jon A.
Exactly... f*cking exactly. Yes were inducted far to late; and when they were finally inducted in 2018, Chris, arguably the most important member of Yes and who had kept them alive for nearly 50 years, had died. They had been eligable for 25 years before being inducted. The RNRHOF is a joke and has been for years.
So sad to see a band of this majesty having had to play outdoor summer festivals, with people listening politely, and others walking by totally disinterested. Granted, it has been 35 years, and half the crowd wasn't around when these songs were released. Still, sad. I like how they started doing their songs acoustically, and there's some nice versions here on UA-cam of that (or were...)
Or: There were probably people in that crowd who weren't even aware Yes were still a going concern. That show may have motivated some of them to look for their newer recordings, putting a few more shekels into the band's pocket. Playing a festival has its downsides, but there's not much downside playing one as big and important as this.
I have heard the band have better live mixes. The equipment and stage displays seem to be scaled down also. I think the enthusiasm is low in addition except for Squire. It sounds like a backing track was used on HEAVEN, which would be unusual for YES. I thought it sounded out of sync for a moment but I maybe wrong . It is all OK though. History Been Made. Thanks for the post! (Years Ago!)
evelyn stroem To be fair to Floyd Flag Man (I assume man), the Dark Side of the Moon flag seems to be around every Glastonbury festival, a lone prog fan there every year. Not sure if you're aware, but this festival has hundreds of bands playing over three days across many stages. In 2003 Yes we're third billing on the third stage on the final day. I was there 😁
Actually this is an interesting one. Usually when Alan plays that drum intro, he plays the accents on beats 3 and 4 on the snare drum with the sixteenth note triplets being filled in by snare, bass drum and tom notes. But for some reason, in this performance he decides to play it more like the way Bill Bruford plays it on the original recording with the beat 3 and 4 accents being played on a tom, rather than the snare. It sounds perfectly fine but I think it throws Jon off, as he’s probably used to it being played the other way. So I would say it’s mainly Jon’s mistake but I understand why it happened if Alan was playing the intro differently to usual.
So cool how Squire gives Wakeman a big hi-five. Ya, they nailed it, and what a great song.
Best Yes lineup of all time. Bruford, Rabin, Downes and Sherwood all deserve respect, among the other dudes, but this is it, when I think about Yes, that's the lineup who comes to my mind. R.I.P. Alan and Chris.
I prefer Bill Bruford to Allan even though Allan is one of the longest standing alumns. Both great drummers in any case.
Only saw Yes once on the Close To the Edge tour.
This lineup. The best.
The line up with Bruford and Howe did The Yes Album, the line up with Bruford Wakeman and Howe did Fragile and Close To The Edge. Those three records made them famous and they never reached those heights again instrumentally after Bruford left.
Right, but Allan did the Close to The Edge Tour
The Squire walkin it out, with that big 'ol grin on his face, Howe engaging Wakey in a duel, Little Jon yelling 'turn it up!', and faithful Alan keeping it all together!
And Alan getting blamed for Jon's mistake
wow...i didn'tknow this video was here
I will miss Alan White and Mr. Squire.
Since my first visit to the Sierras one wish. Hike as far as possible in winter never to be disturbed again
Did you make it, man?
Around 5:20 you can Jon and then Steve ask for more monitor mix, then you can see Steve get a blast of noise in his in-ears.

This song and the album Fragile just turned 50 years old! Way ahead of their time.
I was there, I wasn't a YES fan back then, obviously I am now, how I wish I could message myself back in 2002 to listen to Yes for a solid year to appreciate this, how I still kick myself to this day, arrrrrr!!
Kool. I'm thinkin many people there were hearing (and seeing) this for the first time..
Wow! What an ending. 10 minutes more please. Thank you Yes!
Epic ending featuring Howe and Wakeman improvising killer melodies.
South Side of the Sky is insane
Best song on Fragile in my opinion (or Heart of the Sunrise
The sound is great. Jon's voice is terrific here too.
Different fckin class
Wakeman slipped in a line or two from Journey to the Centre of the Earth! Love Yes.
Brilliant and love the extended ending.
It's 2003, and Wakey still has all those keyboards..fkn classic, man!
This was always a great song. :)
hahaha....INCREDIBLE!
Amazing, "Yes," got me through good and bad over the decades..
Ahahaha, I think Jon went a bit too early at 1:53, forcing him to hold "A riiiiiiiiiiii-ver" for longer than he usually would.
Yeah i saw that too they played the song slower also maybe he got confused
Hahahahhaa "a riiiiiiver" so true!!!! I'm laughing like an insane for this 😂😂😂😂😂
Pretty good recovery though.
Great
All is EPIC, fantastic group still today.
Super musicos, pero me acorde de mi abuelito!! :P
very good repertoire. Lots of favourites. Love them all
' the warmth when you die'
Este grupo pertenece a la eternidad .
Wonderful

Wish I was there...hope they were the best band😃
Love YES!!!

Howe needed to be mixed louder. His fantastic guitar work was lost in this mix. Great song.
it is criminal that we can't hear his genius
He's the best.
What type of beautiful instrument is Jon playing??? Oh, I would love for someone to do an interview and allow us to see his great mass of personal musical instruments and tell us what they are and where they originated. I LOVE this and have never heard it before.
It's a Martin Backpacker with a decorative add on glued to the headstock.
A guitar.
@iwillrocknroll4eva it is a customised Martin Backpacker guitar - he added a midi interface and the scroll headstock and used it extensively on his solo "Tour of the Universe"

The Freedom Climb. Keep climbing :)
I wish the original recording had Jon's voice as low as he sang here.
❤❤❤❤❤
Now 4 singers.
Leuk heeft mijn geïnspireerd om liedjes te schrijven, klik ff op de palm
By the way, it is "Tell The Moon To Tell The March Hare" and not the "Marcher".
I have heard the band have better live mixes. The equipment and stage displays seem to be scaled down also. I think the enthusiasm is low in addition except for Squire.

Thanks for the post! (Years Ago!)
Of course a backing track was used on Heaven, they can't sing "tell the moon dog..." over and over again when there are other lines in the song.
Yea used a backing track on the close to the edge tour
South side intro...Steve gave Alan a look.....sorry, Jon began early!!!
Steve's guitar is too low in the mix. Love the songs!
With all respect to the late Mr White, the Fragile CTTE lineup was their best. Alan was a fine replacement though.
Love the pink floyd flag lol
Ooops. Jon was rushed the first line and made it look like it was Alan's bad.
Rude ass , holding a Floyd flag ,really ? WTF
You got that right Evelyn, seriously WTF? That dude is one Dumb Ass
evelyn stroem To be fair to Floyd Flag Man (I assume man), the Dark Side of the Moon flag seems to be around every Glastonbury festival, a lone prog fan there every year.

Terrible mix.Where's Howe's guitar?
It's a shame they had to play this during the day. It is a song meant to be played in darkness. The mix is terrible can't even hear Steve Howes guitar
Drummers...always the weakest link! I loved the dirty look from Howe.
I don't think Alan was to blame for that screw up
Plus, was Steve even looking at Alan? I think he was looking at his amp.
@@yeslyrics8018 I think he was looking at Jon wearing his nurse's uniform.
I wouldn't exactly say it was a mistake from Alan here - see my reply to BIG BUCK's comment.
Alan White messed up that intro big time - ( that lick was pure Bruford who was by far the better of the two drummers )
Was Alan to blame?? It sounded like Jon came in too early which threw him off
@@DannyBoi2112 i agree
Jon definitely came in early
