A question: lots of MBA alumni told me that if I don’t have any relevant career background in healthcare, then I should probably choose general MBA instead of healthcare management MBA despite my career goal is eldercare industries focus? is that a valid suggestion?

There is no one answer to this question. It depends on first, how convicted and sure you are about your chosen career goals. If you have not vetted your hypothesis that elder care is where you want to be by already attempting some kind of work or other impact in that space, then I would say it is still in the realm of a likely story and not a conviction. That makes the Healthcare MBA risky, because something like 70% of MBAs change their mind about their goals once they get to campus. That puts you in a weird spot if you decide to go a different route. But if you are SURE this is going to be your career destiny, then you need to understand what specifically the healthcare MBA you are applying for gives you in terms of education and whether that is of sufficient/essential benefit to your goals. E.g. The Wharton Healthcare MBA is heavily focused on the US payer-provider system. it's not really about pharma, healthcare entrepreneurship, or healthcare consulting, and the healthcare related programming is significantly less relevant if you intend to work outside the US immediately post-MBA. But each program has different focal points. The criteria is - does it REALLY help your goals? Then, do you really NEED that extra education to achieve them? If so, then it becomes about making a case for why that program is really idea for you instead of just the regular MBA. If you have really done in depth research and you are really sure that program is best for you, they won't block you just because you don't yet have healthcare experience. That is part of the value they will add to your career, which is part of the point of the MBA. Hope this helps!

The advice I got was for Asians to not consider M7 if they have less than a 750 GMAT and 330 GRE. lol
