What size do you recommend for me? I am 5’5” and 146 lbs. I also have the Patagonia micro puff hoodie in a small. However, it does feel slightly tight in the waist.
I finally shelled out on an LT to wear under my motorcycle jacket on the road. I actually have a LEAF Atom SV but that jacket is a little too warm when I'm off the bike, the LT can be worn in restaurants, malls, anywhere really, it doesn't make you feel warm, just Not Cold. I tried on the proton as well and I will probably be buying one later on
I have two Atom jackets. I love them. Mine are form the LEAF line. I like the pocket on the outside, and it has larger cuffs. But the standard is pretty sweet as well.
Love your channel. I have the Atom AR and the Atom SL. The LT will be next. One for every temperature range. You should really try the SL. It’s amazingly versatile.
I own 3 Proton LT’s 1 Proton FL and 4 Atom LT ’s (2 2018 model and 2 2020 model). Both styled jackets are amazing. But Imo, I love The Atom more than the Proton. I hike A LOT and I purchased The Proton because…….well it ventilates better than the Atom LT, but it still makes me sweat and is slightly less warm despite the 80gram loft that The Proton has. It’s a different type of insulation. I forgot the correct type of insulation it has. The Atom compacts better than the Proton, but the Proton is more durable. Honestly I just love The Atom LT more than The Proton. The new updates on The Atom make it more breathable. The Proton hasn’t been updated since 2019
Great comment! Do you not however find yourself losing heat at the top of a windy mountain due to the side panels on the Atom? It's my main concern. Hesitating on which to buy.
How is the durability of Atom LT? Does it show any wear on shoulders where backpack sits? I've read some bad reviews. People say that face fabric is fragile. It wrinkles and tear s easly. ale Arcteryx do not want to repair or refund the jackets.
@@fredericp64 Hi sorry for the late reply. I find that I don’t loose much heat from the fleece side panels on the Atom LT. The Proton is felt all over and it’s very noticeable to me. The Atom although less durable, I find it my go to for all hiking and back country adventures. Proton is best used IMO in temps 50°F - 60°F. I find I can use the atom is temps lower than 50°F with wind
Looks sweet! I have VOWED to not purchase a new jacket until my Mtn Hardware crumbles off of me. I've looked at the Torrid too. This looks like it's worth a look too!
Congratulations, you finally caught up with me! I have one for winter at work. I have an old one and a new one. So 3 total. It's a lightweight goto. Oh, has the zipper gotten better?
Man, thanks for the review. However, as you raised your arms ,the jacket moved up as well. Looking at the Proton, the back panel is longer which makes a substantial difference in keeping you warm
Proton far superior imo. I did a comparison on both of these last winter, and think the proton is more versatile and more breathable. Not a fan of the fleece side panels on the atom, but to each his own.
Arcteryx doesn’t seem to want to sell anything to someone my size. I wear XL in almost every brand. I can’t get the zipper ends to touch on their XL. Their XXL will zip, but it’s like wearing a sausage casing. I can stand to lose a few lbs, but I’m not that big.
No as a Canadian from Alberta this jacket will not hold up. Great underneath another jacket during the winter. I use an Arcteryx Fission I bought used and it’s great for snowboarding. The Atom is great for Spring Summer and Fall.
Hey, I live in France and I'm looking for this type of jacket. The torrid apex seems more appealing to me as it seems warmer especially for the weight (no fleece part) but I actually have to import it from the US which is a bit complicated. What would you advise as a very light synthetic jacket (under 300 gr with full zipper and hood). The Arc'teryx one, the torrid apex, perhaps the Patagonia one, what are the pros and cons ? Thanks in advance ;)
@@MarkPharaoh the model from rab is a bit heavy, I'll check montane :) Either way, is the torrid apex worth it or should I go for the Arc'teryx or the Patagonia one ?
I've wanted one but didn't want to shell out the $$. My synthetic of choice is the Patagonia Nanopuff that I've had for a decade. I did back and try the Outdoor Vitals LoftTek but that has held up extremely poorly and in just a year the insulation has shifted leaving huge gaps in coverage. So I've gone back to the Nanopuff as my go to.
@@PackandPeak Good point. I only use the nano puff when stopped for a break, at camp, or if I need another layer to sleep in. I guess currently my active insulation layer is a fleece hoody.
@@aaalllen Atom LT is better at rest, but I find the Nano more breathable, especially the version with the fleece back. To me, breathability > static warmth in an active insulator and why I usually reach for a polartec alpha garment for that role.
@@AR-yd2nd I imagine he’s talking about them pulling out of OR. Believe there was also some anti-gun sentiment thrown around, but that seems odd considering they create gear for the military.
I wear mine 250+ days a year in Colorado. Good standalone jacket and as a layer. It's held up really well for a few years now too
Same!
Just picked one up the other day. Waiting for delivery all excited, so I'm watching videos lol

I love my OutDoor vitals hoodie and their synthetic jacket. They are supper light weight, breaths great and are designed the be layered together.
Love my Atom, but can’t wait to upgrade to the Proton! Hoping for some sort of a discount this holiday season

I like the hood on this jacket. My only complaint about my Ghost Shadow is the hood is huge, and lacks the drawstring.
Yeah a hood has got to have a way to cinch down to reduce the size.

Not any big issues, but have noticed that the zipper can be a little loose at times.
@@BackcountryExposure ok thanks
Great videos man. Do you think you could make a video talking about the differences between the Atom LT vs the Atom AR?
I could possibly do that in the future. I don't own an AR so I'd need to get one and use it for a bit to do that though.
Great thoughts on this jacket and versus alternatives!

It's the Appalachian Gear Co Hoodie.
Where is your grey hoodie from?
You're probably referring to the Appalachian Gear Co Hoodie I have on under the Atom.
Hugely informative. How does it compare to the SL? Keep up the great work!
