The harmonies when they all sing "Anastasia" at the end were so well-composed. Anastasia sings to give herself courage. The Dowager Empress' voice is pleading, quiet, barely heard, as though she wants hope but is terrified of it at the same time. You can feel the undisguised devotion and passion in Dmitry's voice. The minor chords in Gleb's part and the increasing forcefulness of his voice betray the fact that he's trying hard to make himself believe he deeply hates Anastasia -and he won't admit he's failing at it
I love the symbolism in the actual show. During this scene, ballet dancers are on the stage acting out Swan Lake. Anya is represented by the swan princess, torn between two forces, her prince who represents Dimitry and the evil wizard who represents Gleb. It was really cool to see it onstage while they were singing this.
when I first heard this song I always imagined them dancing at a ball and it’s one of those big group dances where you switch partners and spin around a lot. When they recognize each other in the song I always imagined them looking at each other when they are dancing and slowly getting closer to each other. I think this would be such a cool scene for a movie but probably hard onstage because it would be cool if a camera could follow the actors around on stage. Maybe if there is a live action movie they could change the ballet into a ball the Dowager is attending that Vlad Dmititri and Anya get into through Lily and then this scene could be in it. I think the music fits it too. I love this song so much and I just wanted to share i guess 😘
Derek singing his part to the tune of "Once Upon A December" and RAMIN!!!!!! Oh my gosh! His part in this song gives me chills! Especially when they're all harmonizing towards the end!
It is interesting how, when you're wearing only your left earbud, you can hear clearly The Dowager, Anya and Dimitri. Gleb's voice is hushed and, sometimes, you can't hear it at all. However, when wearing the right earbud only, his voice stands out clearly agaisnt the others. Of course this is due to the way it was recorded, but seeing it in a more poetical way, it could be interpreted like a difference between Gleb and the others: The Dowager and Dimitri want to help Anya go back home; Anya wants to go back to her family; Gleb just wants to finish a "mission" he thinks he has while killing the last Romanov. Check it out for yourselves! Most noticeable during Gleb's and Dimitri's duet and when they all sing together.
Honestly one of my favourite parts of the musical is The Dowager's part in this, the fact that she sees Anya and actually considers but then tells herself not to believe, that it can't be her. I absolutely love that bit
And I love how the music represents that as well, with her switch from once upon a december to close the door, from the melody of hope and memory to the melody of hopelessness and the active choice not to remember
the way they bring back melodies and themes from earlier in the musical + the fact it's at a ball reminds me heavily of "the ball" from the great comet and i love it so much and just yES and anastasia is totally the child of les mis and the great comet to me with a hint of chicago in some parts and i love it so much
okay so Gleb's voice kinda sounds defeated (like how he loves Anya, but has his mission to kill her) whereas Dmitri's parts are so full and passionate because he wants the best for Anya. like Gleb doesn't have notes as high as Dmitri's because Gleb is "hiding" and down in the dumps about his feelings overall. dunno if any of that makes sense but there ya go
in the movie and i guess in the musical too, the ballet they are watching is Swan Lake. the broadway production just added a mashup of Once Upon a December as well.
@@sarahcomer817 It's so beautiful! I saw it on tour with Lyrica Woodruff and Mark MacKillop. They were absolutely stunning. It's now one of my favorite songs :)
I'm really sad. The music's split but my left earbud died, so I can hear Anastasia and Gleb, but I can't hear the Dowager Empress or Dimitri. . . and let's be honest, I'm here for Dimitri's part.
"Keep your nerve and see this through/it's what you've come to do" That's Dimitri talking to himself. Not Anya. He knows, or at least has a hint, at this point that he likes Anya (which is emphasized in "Everything to Win") and he's making himself focus on the mission. The entire reason why he's there. But it's hard for him to focus on the purpose when the purpose is about her. So he's telling himself to keep it together and do what he needs to.
OUAD is my favorite Anastasia song and Tchaikovsky is my favorite classical composer. This is HEAVEN and might now just tie OUAD for my favorite Anastasia song..
How the dancers on stage not have a heart attack and just keep doing their show because I have such chills listening to this that I feel as if I stop breathing. How do you ignore them and just go on with the show?
this is 110/10 my favorite song of the musical...I my be a bit biased though considering in my schools production I was cast as Odette from Swan Lake hha
Hannah Mowbray it would be more logic if she sings "never find her" because earlier in the pkay she sang close the door amd right here she tells herself to stop believing in the whole Anastasia rumour
@@Hannah-lr1uc oh now I get it! I thought it was as if she's telling herself that she will find never Anastasia. "I must stop believing" In my mind It's "I must stop thinking she's alive" but she's thinking "I know you're alive somewhere!" Which is the lyric "I will ever find her."
the way the melody changes before each person sings, and when both Gleb and Dmitri sing together gives me chills omg

The music changes to another song that the character sings at some point in the show. PURE GENIUS!!!
love when Dmitri and Gleb sing together

I would LOVE to see a version like that, I think that would be beautiful.
Me and my sis made up the whole scene in great detail and wrote it down using ur idea. Someday me and friends will do it.
That’s how I always pictured it as well when I watched the musical I was like oh okay but I love the idea of them dancing
I saw the play
And they are mainly just sitting.
Derek singing his part to the tune of "Once Upon A December" and RAMIN!!!!!! Oh my gosh! His part in this song gives me chills! Especially when they're all harmonizing towards the end!
Yay, descant!😂
I literally started balling when they all started singing together. This is such an amazingly done song it's so beautiful and it takes my breath away
The part where they all sing at once always gives me trouble. This clears everything up!
Kaitlin Slover I’d like your comment but it has 69 likes and I’m not mature enough to ruin it

Oh my God, I never knew Dimitry's lines when they all sing together and now I do and I'm crying.
Mood but same tbh
Is the "ballet" Swan Lake? The beginning of this song sounds like Tempo di Valse from Swan Lake -- Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Love it!!!
in the movie and i guess in the musical too, the ballet they are watching is Swan Lake. the broadway production just added a mashup of Once Upon a December as well.
Yup! The ballet is swan lake and it's really well done! They crammed all three acts in to like 6 minutes but its amazing
@@sarahcomer817 It's so beautiful! I saw it on tour with Lyrica Woodruff and Mark MacKillop. They were absolutely stunning. It's now one of my favorite songs :)

Jay Walker that’s actually so tragic 😭isn’t there a setting where you can turn that off?
Hannah Mowbray Sadly, no. And I'm dirt poor and can't get a new set of earbuds until Christmas or something.
Jay Walker oh no :( I guess you’ll just have to listen to it out loud for now
....are you saying that Gleb is on the left? The *left*?
:(
This is good but I am also furious that Gleb's text isn't in red.
Becky Micheals because OUR favorite color is red
Well he's trying to hide his commie side in a theatre full of Tsarist Russians, so...
4 months of listening and I can finally hear and figure out Ramin (... I mean Gleb 😂)’s part at the end. Thank you so much! ❤️

Dmitry- Blue
