One of the best science fiction films. I saw it many times in Italy. The profound meaning, the metaphor of this masterpiece by Carpenter, is the paranoia that takes hold of human beings when they see potential dangerous adversaries in their peers and fight against each other instead of being united, all in a closed environment, claustrophobic, even though the outdoor spaces are enormous but uninhabited. There is also another element that must be taken into consideration: our ancestral fear of being infected by our peers or by others. The splendid soundtrack is by Ennio Morricone. Quentin Tarantino declared that he was inspired by Carpenter's "The Thing" when he filmed "The Hateful Eight" and wanted Morricone for the soundtrack at all costs. A couple of curiosities. In reality, there were two Siberian husky dogs trained to play the part of the Thing that Carpenter used. Since digital effects did not exist in 1982, almost everything was created by hand by Rob Bottin and his collaborators. Due to the enormous amount of work and the consequent stress, Bottin ended up in hospital for fifteen days due to a collapse. Greetings from Milan, Italy. P. S. - You are really cute and nice. 🙂🤎🙂

Most beautiful and charming reaction ever! I saw this at a theater the weekend it came out, the second day if memory serves me. At the time, the effects were spectacular. Of course, the digital age has made effects almost unlimited.
The Husky was named "Jed" and he deserved an Oscar for his performance in this movie. He outshone many of the human cast for sure. Also poor Ellie @ 10:52 she almost jumped out of her skin! Lia & Michelle didn't notice though.
One thing about The Thing that I absolutely love after having watched many reaction vids and shown it to many people, is how almost-everybody at some point in the dog scene seems to get legitimately angry. At first its just "oh wow, thats weird", and then its "Ooooh WOW that's really weird", but at some point basically everyone crosses a boundary into being almost-angry at the scene, like "WHAT?! WHY!? EXPLAIN YOURSELF!"
The interesting thing (haha) about the scene with the dog and the shadow on the wall is that the shadow didn't belong to any of the actors, it was just a member of the filming crew.
@@TheShockninja Looks definitely like Norris. By the way, that crew member was none other than stuntman Dick Warlock, who doubled for Kurt Russell here and played Michael Myers/The Shape in Halloween 2.
Hallelujah!!! Finally you get to see this movie! One of the all time greatest horror flicks ever made & loved your reaction, ladies! I honestly thought you were going to throw up, Ellie, but you did well to hold your nerve! Basically the ending leaves it open to interpretation; you can assume either MacReady or Childs were infected & the cycle continues. There is a prequel to this from 2011 which shows what exactly happened in the Norway camp & perfectly sets up this movie. I personally liked it but it has a very bad reputation among most filmgoers.
@@michaelkenny8540 Not true. Childs also has breath, it's just harder to see because of lighting and camera angles. According to a declared-canon video game, both of them were human.
Ellie, to answer your question around 13:19 when Blair was checking the computer's estimation for the entire world population to be infected, it would be 3 years from the first contact in any of the civilized areas. All you girls are beautiful!!!!
@25:05 _He' (Norris) is turning._ The "Thing" can only *immitate biological matter* & never inanimate objects such as a prosthetic limb, tooth retorative filling or a glass eye. *Norris* (the geologist) has a *prosthetic heart-valve* which obviously isn't cloned if & when the thing attacked him. Therefor his thing-clone constantly got *heart attacks.* The fact that the thing only immitates "biomatter" gives us furthermore a *clue* as to who might be a copy or not, like for instance *Child's earring.*
The Thing doesn't necessarily create "clones". If the Thing attacks you and you have fillings or a prosthetic heart-valve it will still be able to take over your body with those things in it... your going by Thing 2011 logic which should not be taken as canon because it was contrived for the film's narrative.
@Darth_Loverboy_Turned_Loose Not by the technical definition, but *you know what I meant.* Either you are dumb, a troll, or a "loverboy-wannabe". Furthermore, *nope* they can't take your body with those "things" in it.. You write "your going" but I doubt you mean you. You're is whaty should be there , but you don't have enough thing-assimiliated brain cells. I have never seen the 2011 version and never will btw. I leave such "things" to you.@@herb_kush. I have seen & loved the thing since 1982, but you can only measure things on your own tiny "scale".
First time reactions to "The Thing" are priceless. I used to participate in the IMDB Horror Movie Challenge (at least 31 horror movies in October) when the message boards were active. It was always great to see how younger people who have never seen it appreciate how superior it is to most horror movies (and movies in general) that have been released in the last twenty or so years.
- John Carpenter is planning on making a sequel The Thing 2, so most likely Keith David and Kurt Russell could be back for the sequel. It would likely ignore the events of The Thing prequel and explore what happened to Child’s and MacReady after the credits rolled
A well done film. It's a remake of the 1950s film 'the Thing from Another World ' which is also an excellent film. The 1950s and 1980s were both excellent decades for science fiction movies.
The Thing Fantastic 80's Sci-fi horror. Blair was somehow infected after he was locked in the shed. McCready and Childs were probably not infected at the end but unfortunately they likely froze to death, but saved humanity from being taken over. The practical effects are disturbing but so well done. No CGI
8:14 The expression on you girls faces there is priceless 😂🤣. Excellent movie, I watched it when I was about 10/12yr old, I was too scared to watch Alien but somehow I watched this. (my younger brothers loved Alien). Btw, the old black and white original version of The Thing is pretty scary too. Great reaction vid girls 👌💚
I appreciate that they risked their lives to fly out and save those crazy Swedes. You should know that Professor Fuchs was related to the Fuchs brothers in Kurt Russel's movie Used Cars released two years before. This was confirmed in interviews with the director.
Ladies One of the legendary special makeup artists, Rob Bottin and his team created these practical makeup effects for this movie. Rob gotten his start by working for another legendary makeup artist, Rick Baker of American Werewolf in London fame.
Blair did the right thing. he destroyed the means of escape and rescue. the only way to make sure it didn't get to the rest of the world was to make sure no one leaves. Also Michelle, you look amazing, crazy beautiful eyes. Did you have a spa day recently???
“The Thing” is suspicion, mistrust, and paranoia personified! It is the story of desperate men, isolated and hopelessly trapped in the middle of nowhere, caught up in a terrifying life-and-death battle with an inhuman enemy, in which the fate of the entire world hangs in the balance. What would you do?
The make up effects for this movie were well-done! I suggest reacting to The Fly(1986). It’s another sci fi body horror film starring Jeff Goldblum and throughout the movie he becomes less recognizable with the make up effects!
MacReady even said at the end, "If we've got any surprises for each other, I don't think we're in much shape to do anything about it" which was admitting that he was unarmed, exhausted and alone with Childs. If Childs was the Thing, it had no reason not to attack him then. They were definitely both human. I don't know why anybody thinks it was unclear.
Childs failed the test. He started drinking from the same bottle as MacReady (if he were a human, he would be afraid to do this). And at that moment, MacReady realized that he had lost - this refers to the beginning of the film, when he poured alcohol on his PC. (by the way, is this really alcohol? Because it could have been gasoline, since MacReady did not take alcohol with him)
@@waspangry3464 Don't know if ut's canon or not but they made a game set straight after the events after movie, the in the game the protagonist finds Childs's dead body so he definitely wasn't the Thing
@@fairedepeche The filmmakers have talked about that theory before in interviews. It just looks that way because of the angle of the lighting. It wasn't an intentional choice. MacReady lost all his weapons and explosives. It would have just attacked him.
BTW, they weren't saying that burning wouldn't kill it. They were saying that nobody was burning it enough. You can't leave any of the meaty bits still juicy. Then it isn't dead. But, if you burned it down to carbon and ash, it would have been dead.
The Thing is, perhaps, one of the masterpieces of horror cinema. John Carpenter did an excellent job, giving us our first look at his famous "Apocalypse Trilogy." I recommend delving into Carpenter's cosmic horror, and since they started with The Thing (1982), The Prince of Darkness (1987) is a metaphysical religious horror, and finally In the Mouth of Madness (1994) (perhaps one of the darkest movies I saw when I was young) - the title speaks for itself. Ha ha ha! All of them with different endings, but equally hopeless for all of humanity. Good reaction by the way. Greetings from Argentina!
I think it was 1983 when I saw this the first time. I was ten years old and it scared the crap out of me. What I love about these 80s movies is there is no CGI crap which means the effects are practical. This lends a lot of realism to the movie. The Thing still holds up to this day. The suspense, the tension, the great story. This is how you make a scary movie.
13:59 Ironic only a girl scientist survived events at the Norwegian camp..She thought she got them all, but realized the dog was missing it's jewel collar. An explosion messed up her flame-thrower's aim, and the "dog" ran for it--.took 36 hours for rescue 'copters to find her. She left in one for medical treatment while briefing the other in the air via radio (Thing prequel, 2012, CGI FX couldn't match the real deal ) Fun watching ya spook and gross out!
Oh, Lia, Ellie and Michelle on your past videos y’all reacted to the movie “Coraline” (2009) and the actor that voiced the cat was actually voiced by Keith David who plays Childs in this movie 🍿
I totally understand that words sometimes get dropped from sentences when English isn't a person's first language, and I'm not generally one to make fun of when it happens... but you never know, Ellie's suggestion at 35:54 might have worked... it was the one strategy MacCready didn't try.
My favorite horror movie. Great reactions! ❤ Michelle was right, it WAS a test. Childs failed the test, and it took me 25 years to realize that is how Mac knew Childs was the thing. Best to you-
'Invasion of the Body Snatchers' (1979) would be a perfect double feature with 'The Thing'. Great script, great cast, creepy well-done practical effects, and the same kind of intensely suspicious and paranoid atmosphere.
My favorite horror movie. I cant think of a worse scenario to find yourself in. Youre battling an intelligent enemy, you dont know if its malicious or simply trying to survive, if it touches you...youre dead, its almost impossible to detect, it can only be killed with fire/acid and if it gets to water or transportation its not just the end of humans but THE ENTIRE WORLD. Every Winter when the wind howls i think of this movie. It inspired me to get a flamethrower cause...you never know 😅
Interesting Facts: Norris is clearly exhibiting chest pain and all of the classic signs of a heart attack and cardiac arrest before he collapses. When the Thing imitates someone, it perfectly duplicates every cell with such precision than it actually retains the memories, knowledge, and personality of the individual it copies. Norris (the guy who’s chest bursts open, chopping off the doctor’s hands with its bear-trap teeth) had a bad heart, and likely a peacemaker. When the Thing took him over and perfectly imitated him, it also faithfully recreated his heart defect, but not his pacemaker, which eventually caused Norris to suffer a heart attack for real during a high-stress moment. The Thing would have been happy to hide itself in a presumably “dead” body, but it couldn’t tolerate the electro-shocks from the defibrillator and was thus forced to reveal itself. In the prequel to “The Thing”, they were able to identify people who had been imitated because the Things were only able to replicate organic matter and were therefore unable to duplicate inorganic matter, which meant that items such as pins inserted to hold together broken bones and fillings in your teeth would be missing in people that had been taken over. That would obviously be the case for anyone like Norris that had a pacemaker as well. They were thus able to identify who was a Thing and who was not by checking for fillings, etc… Of course, the amazing scene where Norris’ head separates from his burning body, slides onto the floor, and pulls itself away, transforming into a crab/spider with his upside-down head as its body, and tries to crawl away unnoticed, is an iconic moment! (Incidentally, at the beginning of the movie, the spaceship was flying erratically because the crew was desperately trying to fight off the Things that were aboard their vessel and causing havoc. That’s why the spaceship attempted to make an emergency landing on the nearest planet and ended up crash landing in the Antarctic. Only one of the Things as survived the crash and made it out of the ship alive, only to freeze in the ice.)
31:15 Calm down on your insults to Garry (Blonde on the right) he was tired up much longer than the rest throughout the film and he was sitting right next to Palmer when he changed.
29:22 - notice it was him that also spotted the head walking away earlier. Figure the thing-head was cursing him out "you traitor!" before being set on fire
There are different types of horror, this is that creeping kind of "something is wrong" but you can't put your finger on it. Till, well it happens. This is truly a psychological horror AND creature flick.
Kurt Russell was kick-ass in this movie. Gorey alien monsters aside, I liked the character development, the feeling of uneasiness and overall suspense. Some of the monster effects looked as if someone dumped automatic transmission fluid (or barbecue sauce) all over some distorted and melted plastic. Still, gore or no; the practical effects created by Rob Bottin and crew were amazing. I once owned a Siberian Husky and a Malamute. They were amazing friends. I felt awful when the Husky began to morph into The Thing and when the other dogs were shot. Damn -- so brutal! I saw this movie when it premiered in 1982. Thanks for the review, ladies. Stay safe. -- W

My Fav movie of all time!! I watched it in cinema when it came out, it was years ahead of its time special effects wise and as you said many questions the most important is... They said Garry (The man in charge) was the only man who had the keys and access to the blood bank that's why they so strongly suspected him of being the Thing, yet when they did the tests he was "negative" and NOT the Thing so who did get in the blood bank ????? lol
Rob Bottin's practical effects in this movie are incredibly creative and horrific. The filmmakers didn't want to have a guy in a costume for the alien creatures
According to a source I can’t remember who McCreedy has a flamethrower under his blanket at the end and when he gives Child’s the bottle it’s gasoline or something like that this confirms to McCreedy he is a Thing and apparently he was going to use the flamethrower he I am hiding but the source could have been wrong
Okay, so the movie you need to watch next, for a more subtle take on this idea, is Invasion Of The Body Snatchers (the 1978 remake starring Donald Sutherland is the best one). It's really, really good.
Blair wasn't "going crazy" in the radio room. He was trying to keep The Thing from returning to a populated area.
Nope. Blair was already the Thing at this point, after the autopsy. He destroyed the radio so the others couldn't get help.

First time I watched this movie... I couldn't sleep for a week. After that I watched it again and again
The paranoia is off the charts in this one. The theme music gets my heart racing!
Michelle's finger touches her shoulder. 😅
Right. The shadow was made to look like either the characters of Norris or Palmer in order for the audience to guess who it is.
One 'clue' might be that only one person in the final scene is shown as breathing.
@25:05 _He' (Norris) is turning._
The "Thing" can only *immitate biological matter* & never inanimate objects such as a prosthetic limb, tooth retorative filling or a glass eye.
Ellie from 25:26 to 26:26 is the best reason to watch this video.
HILARIOUS.
Ive seen that 1 minute 10 times and Im still laughing.
Oh my God!!!!!!
The claustrophobic group becomes the perfect petri dish in which to create an environment of fear, paranoia, and betrayal.
I truly love this movie and waiting your react 25:25. Thank you, girls, it’s priceless ❤
The Homies "If no one's told this today, I love you." (Peter Monn)💙
First time reactions to "The Thing" are priceless. I used to participate in the IMDB Horror Movie Challenge (at least 31 horror movies in October) when the message boards were active. It was always great to see how younger people who have never seen it appreciate how superior it is to most horror movies (and movies in general) that have been released in the last twenty or so years.
The time on the computer screen: 27000hrs. is roughly 3.8 years.
- John Carpenter is planning on making a sequel The Thing 2, so most likely Keith David and Kurt Russell could be back for the sequel. It would likely ignore the events of The Thing prequel and explore what happened to Child’s and MacReady after the credits rolled
At this point, it doesn't make sense.

A well done film. It's a remake of the 1950s film 'the Thing from Another World ' which is also an excellent film. The 1950s and 1980s were both excellent decades for science fiction movies.
It's not really a remake, it's a re-telling of the story, and much closer to the original story, the the 50s version.
this is a remake, with the same story line, it was made back in the 50's so it didn't rely as heavy on special effects
Excellent movie,
I watched it when I was about 10/12yr old, I was too scared to watch Alien but somehow I watched this.
(my younger brothers loved Alien). Btw, the old black and white original version of The Thing is pretty
scary too.
Ladies
One of the legendary special makeup artists, Rob Bottin and his team created these practical makeup effects for this movie. Rob gotten his start by working for another legendary makeup artist, Rick Baker of American Werewolf in London fame.
Your doggie is the Thing (Alien)
I love watching girls watch this. You know they've never seen anything like it, there's really nothing else like it.
Stunning Horror Movie if not the best ever made....40 years old and still better than the rest today
I always get a big kick out of you three (sometimes 4). THE THING is without question one of the best sci-fi movies ever made.
Because it could have been gasoline, since MacReady did not take alcohol with him)
@@waspangry3464 That was no test, and didn't indicate anything.
@@waspangry3464 Don't know if ut's canon or not but they made a game set straight after the events after movie, the in the game the protagonist finds Childs's dead body so he definitely wasn't the Thing
Childs in the last scene doesn't expell frozen cold breath from his mouth, but MacReady does. Childs is the Thing.
I dunno, as long as there's some cells left it's still alive and it's really damn hard to kill every cell.
Great score composed by Ennio Morricone, John Carpenter and Alan Howarth.
I cannot get enough of this channel. These girls are seriously my favorite reactors on the internet right now.
29:34 Ellie’s face 😂
Ellie's look of pure disgust and horror at 25:24 is very nostalgic for me😂
Lia's disgust with squinting her eyes with the head scene getting cut off was priceless!
29:41.. Ellie's trying to sqiush and massage her head at the one!! lol
This is one of the most awesome Movies ever ! you DESERVE this Girls and you know it 🥰
They made a prequel with the same name in 2011.
Gotta love this time of year with all The Thing reactions 🎃🔪
25:56 - "Aaahaaah!" LOL! Adorable reaction!
Someone should have been suggested that on patreon Coraline is a good movie
@@Shawn_Dark_Heartthey reacted to it already but I think it got taken down because of copyright but there reaction was priceless 😂
@@Chasejones2004 I wish somebody will put a suggestion for The last House on the Left (2009)
@@Shawn_Dark_Heart that’s a good one, they should react to monster house (2006)cause it’s a scary movie in claymation 😂
@@Chasejones2004 I just hope nobody doesn't put the last House on the Left the original because the remake was way better than the original
Michelle was right, it WAS a test.
Childs failed the test, and it took me 25 years to realize that is how Mac knew Childs was the thing.
Best to you-
Something I found out that I didn't even consider before, the guy that plays Gary plays the president in Clear and Present Danger.
It inspired me to get a flamethrower cause...you never know 😅
Interesting Facts:
Norris is clearly exhibiting chest pain and all of the classic signs of a heart attack and cardiac arrest before he collapses.
They were thus able to identify who was a Thing and who was not by checking for fillings, etc…
Of course, the amazing scene where Norris’ head separates from his burning body, slides onto the floor, and pulls itself away, transforming into a crab/spider with his upside-down head as its body, and tries to crawl away unnoticed, is an iconic moment!
My favorite horror movie! I'm glad y'all are reacting to it. 🙂
27:36 Michelle's Thing impression! 😊❤
I don't know if you guys watched this movie...but ! Finally!! You guys are in for a twisted story. Happy Halloween
29:22 - notice it was him that also spotted the head walking away earlier. Figure the thing-head was cursing him out "you traitor!" before being set on fire
I always imagine 'Palmer' thinking 'you went with *that?* *Really* ?'
There are different types of horror, this is that creeping kind of "something is wrong" but you can't put your finger on it. Till, well it happens.
This is truly a psychological horror AND creature flick.
Best. Practical. Effects. Ever.
"They have other dogs?"
Those sled dogs in many instances are the most reliable means of transportation in frigid climates like this and in Alaska.
LOL THE LOOK ON ELLIE'S FACE!
Oh my god! I was hoping y'all would get to this one eventually! One of my favorite horror movies!
Lia has nerves of steel. Nothing scary fazes her.
Comments that never age well "I like the dog"!
Funny as a Swed hear Snake Plisken go: "Hey, Sweden!"
Stay safe. -- W
YESSS!!! 😆... ive waited so long to watch you lovely ladies react to this movie.😘

A few of the movie reactors I subbed to have been watching this gem.
Now there r 3 Belgian gems watching it. This is a classic.
U girls won’t like the first few scenes b/c u know what a blessing doggies r but, u’ll understand why, soon enough.
Bulgarian, not belgian.
I think they both froze to death in the end but saved the world
Yep. And the tape MacReady made got blown up with the rest of the camp. So no one will ever know what took place there.
I loved all your reactions on the chest burster scene! The ending was to leave you in suspense
My Fav movie of all time!! I watched it in cinema when it came out, it was years ahead of its time special effects wise and as you said many questions the most important is... They said Garry (The man in charge) was the only man who had the keys and access to the blood bank that's why they so strongly suspected him of being the Thing, yet when they did the tests he was "negative" and NOT the Thing so who did get in the blood bank ????? lol
In an earlier scene, when the Thing makes an appearance, the keys get dropped in the chaos.
25:23 I love the expression on their faces. 😆
YEEEESS!!! My favorite reactionists are watching the Thing this Year!!!!
25:54 That reaction 🤣
Now Vicky and Blue should watch The Thing.
Funny only Lia's microphone was working but I could still hear Ellie and Michelle clearly 😂
Rob Bottin's practical effects in this movie are incredibly creative and horrific. The filmmakers didn't want to have a guy in a costume for the alien creatures
29:43 my favorite part of the reaction, it reminded me myself. Laughing with my own jokes.
Bless her.
The character windows was also one of the Warriors another classic
Okay, so the movie you need to watch next, for a more subtle take on this idea, is Invasion Of The Body Snatchers (the 1978 remake starring Donald Sutherland is the best one). It's really, really good.
