Love this video! Totally puts into perspective how these movies really affect the comics in the long run. With so much spec going on currently its important to remember that many of these books will be dead in a short period of time.
Wish you covered DC in this vid as well, considering Penguin show is just coming out in 2 days from now! Here's hope for a DC version of this vid soon!
Ahhhhhh....finally! Finally someone making a topic on movies effects on keys value. You can definitely do more episodes for Fox movies on Xmen. I think tv series can influence comics too
low quality movies have definitely hurt the comic market. Terrible movie after terrible movie for years have severely damaged comic sales. An example is Silver Surfer, if they had done that story correctly instead of doing their own thing to create "a story our fans have never seen before" the value of FF 48 would likely not be plummeting.
It’s honestly wild what the movies have done to these books; however, I’m also not surprised because there’s too many people (and I’m going to say “market influencers” that try to push the needle on books) that do their damndest to make books worth more than they are and fail. I’m glad we are kind of back to where we “should be” with prices but some still need some adjusting (a little bit)
I have to like the character at the beginning and the same goes for the comic. The first appearance of Arnim Zola will always be "valuable" to me because I've always thought he was a cool character! However, only Howard The Duck's 31 issue comic book and his 9 issue magazine series mean anything to me because the character just plain no longer exists; he's drawn differently out of concern he looked too much like Donald Duck!
Seems to me the consistant boost long term is on characters 1st appearances that were unknown in dollar bins and are now 5-20 dollar books. The rest are unaffected, fluid, or hurt.
I would like to see a DC video like this however I feel it probably would get the same results on how many of the legacy characters are always going to be worth money. Although many of the side characters really haven’t had their time in the sun apart from cameos in recent DC moves.
I love it how you say “became more affordable” rather than “lost alot of value” also in my experience I think that Moon Knight should have been in the top row, I have personally noticed alot more demand.
I feel that only the large expensive keys are worth investing in.Small keys and modern books seem like a waste of money as investments. That is what’s hurting the comic book market in my opinion
Seems like movies have actually HELPED the majority of comics more than hurt, if I'm reading this video right... I'd say any dips in books is simply just the poor economy rn, not so much movies
Movies do 2 things Bring more comic collectors and make comic collectors leave. Ebs and flows. Now that the movies have hit rock bottom. We only have to go up now
Tell that to Deadpool and Wolverine. NM 98, Deadpool 88, XMen 251, Wolverine vol 2 1 all popped in price. A popular movie just hypes the demand for the books surrounding the movie plot.
@@robearnest7613 Ok we have been around long enough to know comic books can get hot because of hot movies. After the hype settles down the books go back to their normal. As a whole the comic book market is in decline. The huge books should be ok. Average regular keys are loosing value
I miss the good old days before comic interest and values were so chained to movies and box office performance. I hope a huge disconnect occurs, and the hobby returns to its pure form. Engaging original stories with interesting, multifaceted characters and collectible worthy art. I see far too much buying and selling solely based on the popularity of covers and movie/TV tie-ins. Collectors don't seem to be focusing so much on collecting anymore, as they are in flipping books for profit. I do, however, understand that a large number of people who have collected for decades and are now at a certain age want/need to sell off their collections to buy a car or home, financial need/debts or downsizing, and space limitations. I feel some of the reason for the drop in comics values could be due to so many people selling their collections either in whole or pieces, at very low prices, thereby glutting the market. Far more sellers than buyers = competition and lower prices. Thoughts?😊
My question is how many people have lost the desire to get some of these books cause the movies were so bad. I agree, the big keys are unaffected because of the history of the character.
I've got one you missed (that I also just found out about because I bought it cheap at an estate sale). Marvel Fanfare #11, first appearance of Iron Maiden (Melina Vostokovna) (i.e., Rachel Weisz's character in the Black Widow movie). It was $40 in a 9.8 before 2021, ran up to $177 in the lead up to the movie, and is now back to about $40 for a 9.8, so I would rate that dead. It's a really nice cover, though.
Yes, we do have to thank the movies for making some of those keys more affordable. But with Secret Wars coming out in the next couple of years you might not want to sleep on those affordable keys.
Of course it did. You have movie goers buying comics not comic readers buying comics. Those same movie goers are the mouthbreathers getting everything graded and claiming it's worth hundreds because they have no clue of what areal comic value is.
Comic book values go up and down regardless of whether there are movies attached to them. I don’t believe that bad movies and tv shows hurt comic book values. She Hulk was a book that struggled on its own. Personally I do not think Shang Chi was represented well in the MCU. But I still like the comics. I believe the comic book market is struggling on its own
I wish you had mentioned the movie or show these appeared in if just one item. I just don’t remember all these minor characters and don’t even recognize them all. Great list though

@MintHunterComics I wasn't saying they weren't tiered but there was no video mentioning them being placed. If you see 4:42 with Daredevil then 4:54 with Dr Strange you suddenly see Yelena/BW appears in Slashed tier for example.
I hated both the venom movies so hopefully the third one is so bad that Knull's first appearance becomes more affordable haha. He's such a damn cool character.
Well, as we all know…. In the comics industry, any characters that are considered “dead,” have a tendency to spring back to life. So, I wouldn’t be giving up on those first appearances just yet. lol
Carol Danvers. I could finally afford #18 mystique first full appearance. I didn't really like the Captain Marvel movie, but I don't think it was the dumpster fire people make it out to be. The second movie was a fun enough action movie.
I wonder how much of this damage to prices might be due to people not caring about buying single issues or caring about collectability anymore. So you mostly have older people shelling out to buy these and that population is slowing reducing in number. Kind of like how some movie/TV props from the 50s and 60s shows dropped enormously in value as the people that grew up watching those shows and loving them died off.
I enjoy the movies as a separate thing, I don't really care if the value of the comic is bumped because of them. In fact, if there is a huge bump it only prevents me from getting the books I want.
I think the economy is hitting most hobbies hard. I am appreciating that comics are coming back down but unfortunately my finances are more strained. the movie speculation cranking up prices is the worst
