My introduction to Barry was from his brother's book, "The Los Angeles Diaries." It's such a tragedy to know that such a gifted person like Barry is no longer with us. We'll miss you, Barry.
Thank you, John Fun. This is a beautifully moving piece. I could've sworn I left a comment here years ago, but I can't find it, so I comment again in great appreciation for this wonderful memorial to my brother.
I remember seeing "Bad Company" when I was much younger and thinking what an original film it was. Barry somehow reminded me a little of James Stewart in it, perhaps the innocence of his character and his unwillingness to go along with the gangs more dubious schemes. I recently finished reading James Brown's "The L.A. Diaries", a beautifully written and haunting account of his early life, addiction and memories of brother Barry and sister Marilyn. It's one of those memoirs you just cannot put down.
Brown was a brilliant actor who should have lived on, carrying his talent forward. I also read his brother, James, "The L.A. Diaries." James is a very talented writer. The book is heartbreaking.
On what would have been your 63rd birthday, Barry, you're not forgotten; you'll NEVER be forgotten - although it would appear that there are those who have tried. You had an electrifying presence, and it's too bad that Fate couldn't have been gentler, but sadly - it was not meant to be. But you shall always be remembered in the brightness and the handsomeness of your youth - forever young, forever bright, forever beautiful. Rest well, and in eternal peace...
His sister Marylin Brown , who also was an actress , Killed herself in the 1990's . His brother James Brown is an author who has written several books . The one about his famous brother and sister and dysfunctional family is called " The Los Angeles Diaries " by James Brown ! READ IT !
Sadness and tragedy ran in the family. Barry Brown (1951-1978) took his life two months after his 27th birthday. His younger sister Marilyn Brown (1953-1997) was also an actress. She took her life 4 months after her 44th birthday by jumping off a freeway overpass. She was married with one child at the time. Much like her brother, she was described as "a painfully shy and troubled woman who had problems with drug abuse and alcoholism throughout most of her life." Youngest brother James (1957- ), an acclaimed writer, wrote an intimate memoir of his dysfunctional family entitled "The Los Angeles Diaries" published in 2003.
Barry's Frederic Winterbourne just may be my favorite performance by an actor. Barry has those deep, dark, sad but expressive and bright sometimes eyes that can tell you everything or hide everything. I really don't believe he was "acting"....not in any performance.....he was giving himself away.....all pain and joy, confusion, fear. He simply told the truth.
If only Barry Brown had lived about 40 years earlier he WOULD have won the Academy Award(s) that he so richly deserved. He would have had the best writers crafting deathless parts for him in classic movies, and the studio would also have taken care of him and his problems; in that day and age, an actor of his caliber was a prize investment - not someone to be used and callously discarded when things got rough. They were more concerned then with creating masterpieces, and not addressing the "bottom line." But sadly, in the 60s and the 70s (and it's worse even now), they weren't discerning enough to realize an immortal talent when they had one. (At least he's at peace in Eternity....)
@NeverShoutNevercrazd Well I'm a guy and would never fall in love with a man Dead or Alive Lol! But have you seen Bad Company? Film's a piece of genius.
An unbelievable beautiful man❤

WHAT A GREAT ACTOR.R.I.P.
He's a cross of Anthony Perkins and Al Pacino. Thanks uploader!
just watched daisey miller, barry was wonderful, was excited to look him up, but was disappointed to find out in died in 1978,he was so good.
It's such a shame. Can't imagine what pain he must have felt. Enjoyed his acting in Bad Company

thank you all for the great comment. Song is by the great John Doe of the legendary rock and roll band, X.
