I am so sad, I had listen AR every night in Slovenia on small AM pocket radio near my bed,. now it is endeng of that romantic times, digital world destroyed analog😢
I miss Absolute radio on FM frequency now I have to listen to it on digital radio or online , hopefully one day it will come back on FM frequency it’s the best radio station in the UK
We lost our FM signal, and internet, during Storm Arwen in West Perthshire in late 2021. A cosy night however, under the covers, listening to Radio 4 Long Wave and a good police drama!
But rumour hath it that they will soon turn off long wave too. Some have said at the end of March, but others (you can find this googling) at the end of this year.
@@organisten Very sad, and it makes our advanced civilisation just that little bit more precarious and less resilient. Thee will be a shock coming there one day, I suspect. LW is one of our last connections with the heroic early days of broadcasting.
@@organisten there was an article on the BBC website about that a couple of days ago and they will apperantly keep broadcasting on LW. there are still more than 1 million electricity meters in use in the uk that rely on LW for their function. their signal comes from the same transmitter site as BBC4 and several MW stations, so they have to keep it going until all of these people switched to modern 'smart' meters voluntarily. lets hope it takes a long time ;)
The same closedown message is being played by on the GHR AM frequencies as well. The remaining stations (talksport, radio 5, etc) are scheduled to close. As sad as it is, I think the reality is, that medium wave is finished. I hope Caroline have a decent length of time remaining on their licence, because once it expires I cannot see it being renewed :(
BBC is running half power on all its services these days. So I think BBC R5 is now 75kw from Droitwich. Even band II - FM powers are down from were they used to be.
It's about time Caroline was given a DAB+ frequency nationwide too! Possibly even gratis as a debt of gratitude, because they were the 1st to break the BBC monopoly and to show that we deserved more than just the Light Programme with it's needle time restrictions meaning that you might have heard Absolute Beginners played instrumentally by a Dance Orchestra!
We lost a top rating am music station to sport last year on Brisbane Australia called 4kq because the owners who had to sell it wouldn't sell out to a music competitor -

same here in Germany. luckily Caroline and Gold still come in quiet nice, but Gold will shut down end MW of this month :/

When Virgin was on we were given 1233kHz then which was stronger.

Caroline seems massively reduced. 648 has Murski Val here, only.
Manx 1368 is also weak and fading. this is not 20 kW
@@ParadiseFMMalta Caroline is on 2kW using the Nautel tx currently due to problems with the Harris transmitter, so pretty much half power
