Another cross country mountain bike launches, this time it's a new Giant Anthem! What do you think about the new design? Let us know your thoughts below in the comments!
Flex stays are just ways to save money in an XC category where small bump sensitivity doesn't matter too much and you can call it weight savings to validate the logic. Less pivots, less bearings, less assembly time at the factory.
Well it works well enough and it does away with a lot less bearings that you have to maintain/replace! And it has been around since at least 2013 so nothing new!
@@KoenMiseur Flex stays have been around since the 90's (I've owned a couple - Trek Fuel with carbon flex stays and Ibis with titanium flex stays), but it doesn't invalidate anything I've said. When one rear swingarm bearing/bushing goes, usually you just replace them all as precaution, so I don't believe it to be any less maintenance.
Such a mess with cable and cable routing around the rear shock is a shame nowadays, specially with such a price tag. Just go full internal or full external, or a closer routing along the frame in this area. Imagine a branch getting stuck at high speed.. and it's ugly anyway xD Good video and presentation btw !
why if they kill Maestro suspension they keep the same look wich allows just 1 bottle. If have the previous Anthem Advanced pro and I need to have two bottles
@@KoenMiseur no, is not problem(if it works), just when a brand have no idea what to make as fresh new, make someting what is alredy is used by others, saying, we maked somethng new, different , afters years of using the rigid rear triangle with that link between the BB and the triangle, they just use someting usual , I just want to say , in the bike industry(and not just) , is hard to make something new, by look, or technically , THIS IS MY PERSONAL OPPINION, there is nothing about new design
An absolute shame that they've abandoned the wonderful Maestro suspension system. This new system is a bit of crap. It should not be a question of weight but of quality when it comes to suspensions.
This is basically a carbon fiber Stance. Think of it more of a softtail than a full suspension designed for cross country. I still think the Maestro would climb and brake better but they want to save 250 grams.
The UK Giant rep said last year, that the UK wouldn't be getting any of the new carbon Anthems and XTC's, as the market is changing, will be interesting to see if they sell these here. it's not listed on the GB website
Thanks - it was a bit of an unknown where we shot the ride shots - Troopers Hill in Bristol. The GoPro was just on a quick lap around Ashton Court, near Bristol.
Different regions will have different demands on the type of bikes populations like to ride, and perhaps how much they want to spend. In the UK I guess there's an assumption that not too many Anthems will be sold (XC isn't massive here), and so it makes less sense to bring in a full range, in all the sizes etc. We'd need someone from Giant to confirm, though!
11.5kg and it costs 7000€?? Come on get real... Electronic suspension it sucks, never worked it won't start now. The only thing that it does its destroying the battery and making you spend money buying some new.
Nowadays... I find Giant is Great when it comes to their Budget/Midrange bikes.. example XTC SLR 1 compares to Treks X Caliber Series.. but when it comes to their High-end.. to me this new Anthem.. uhmm how do i say this.. it looks outdated to be honest. almost looks like Vinatge 😅 modern full sus XC are neat with their cable routing.. while Giant is doing it the otherway around.. plus The Front Triangle almost looks like a Roadbike? well to wrap it up.. interms of Looks.. to me it looks outdated
Live Valve is not great on a hard core XC bike because it doesn't lock out 100% (I have Live Valve on my trail bike and love it though). An XC bike needs lockouts that LOCK OUT 100%.
Nice looking bike but poor quality control or poor transport.Rear wheel has major issues right out of the box. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Rear axle is bent! Derailleur is misaligned.Since the rear wheel comes assembled I would have expected better.Assembly instructions poorly written, but that was not unexpected...just annoying.I just had the bike checked at a shop and was told that I should contact the seller about getting a whole rear wheel assembly with cartridge. (The bike shop could not do anything to help me).Not a good experience with this bike, so lesson learned.Added 3 stars for excellent customer serviceUpdate Sept 8 2020Just received a complete replacement wheel for free. Great service and an otherwise fine bike.

overall a relatively affordable and a responsible choice for non pro second chasers id say
it looks messy whit all those cables

My 2019 stance had flex stays , great trail bike, and good suspension. Worked as well as my 3000 dollar Scott

Thanks for watching!
Just go handrail I say
rip maestro, it's the end of the anthem era, don't understand why.. was a perfectly function bike

be honest, the flex rear triangle isnt an invention in 021, just saved some bearing and moving parts...
And that's bad?
I'm fine with that. Though Giant pivots have been pretty durable compared to my Santa Cruz bikes.

I'm more than happy with my 2020 version. 👌
I've cracked 3 of the 2021 frames so hopefully this one is a bit better...
This automated remote lockout system is like brainshock from Specialized? Or they work on a different principle?
Which is superior??
Wow no maestro personally I think it’s a huge mistake the best rear end I’ve ever written oops!!!
beautiful bike !
About time Giant abandoned Maestro for XC. I’m excited to give the new bike a try!
😒
What arethe disadvantages of maestro?
Why does everyone always forget about Canyon when the mention flexpoint seatstays, they were one of the first!
Im pretty sure this was on the cannondale scapel about 10 years ago.
@@andypaul999 first of all I said one of the first, didn't say the first and the Lux is also 9 years old.

Giant UK told me that the '1' and the '2' will be bought here to the uk 👌
@@TomMarvin1 Oh wow that's great news
Those trails look great - where are they ..?

Shoot bought a 2021 in March lol ... looks decent
Old version is better, more beautiful at least
❤️ XC
Maximum chainring size? 36T oval ready?
So theyre going to a cheaper and inferior design, and selling it as a feature and raising prices as well...
Dave Weagle finally wins
Clever move 😁
The front triangle is huge and gives it a dated look.
A pitty it has no maestro and single bottle cage 🙁🙁🙁
Wich size is it??
Question: why does bike availability and specs differ so much based on regions?

What is the size of the bike in thé vidéo
youtube-stats (two most common words) :
1. giant
2. maestro
xddd
animal, eu tenho uma Giant Revel, adoro a marca , pena que nao se ve muita Giant no Brasil

No room for two bottles = fail
Flex is the best way bar none to make it cheaper and lighter. Very double edged sword.....
Good like my best frendss 👍👍👍

Why? Check out Dylan Johnson’s take on lockouts… you don’t even need them.
