Could you explain why some of those hands are zero point chicken hands? I thought a Pong was 2 points, and a pong of honours was 4 points?

Thank you for your question. Generally, the name "Chicken Hand' comes from the Cantonese term calling the player a "Chicken" for grabbing an easy win which consists of at least 2 different suits (from bamboo, character or dot tiles) that contain at least 1 chow meld from 1 suit mixed with other melds from other suits.
Using this video as an example, I'll point out at the winning hands with the time stamps to make it easier to understand why these are Chicken hands.
02:29 As you can see, I have all 3 different suits in my hand with a mix of melds and chows. Because the aim of mahjong is to build a better hand like in Poker (e.g. one of a kind same suit) to score more points, this kind of Chicken hand win will upset players who are trying to build something better. The only reason we score 1 point here is because a self-draw win (meaning the winning tile is self-drawn instead from a player discard) counts as 1 point.
04:22 Very similar to the previous win, I have all 3 different suits in my hand, hence why it is a Chicken win.
06:25 This case I'll explain a bit more, because it's very close to something that I could have scored 3 points with. As you can see, I have a bamboo chow meld in this case, and because it's mixed with the other suits in this hand, it counts as a Chicken. However, if this same bamboo meld was NOT a chow meld, but instead a pong meld (3 of a kind), this would have easily scored 3 points because it'd have been an all pong hand, despite the mix of suits. This is the only time when you can use all 3 suits in a hand to score 3 points because normal All Pong hand (that contains at least 2 different suits) is counted as a hand. It's a small win, but still acceptable with some mahjong table scoring at some tables.
09:39 The chow meld with the dots has also forced this hand into a Chicken hand win, otherwise it would have been an All Pong hand and I would have gotten 3 points instead.
13:25 Same as the win earlier on in the game when I have all suits with a mix of chow and melds.
In summary, a pong by itself will not score any points as the scoring is calculated by looking at the final hand with some of the preset points and modified by a few additional scoring terms.
As for point scoring with Honor tiles, this will depend on a few other factors (such as seating position etc but that needs to be explained in a separate video) but they must not be part of the final Chicken hand to score any additional points.
Anyway, let me know if this has cleared up some questions!

How do you exit from this app? I have to shut down my phone every time to close down a game, because I can't find any way to exit. Can you advise, please?

Hello and thank you for your question. Pressing the home button on both Android and Apple devices will exit the app completely. If simply exiting a game session midway to back to the title page, tap anywhere on the page to bring up the profiles of each player and there will be a back arrow on the top left corner that will ask you if you want to quit the game session when you tap on it.
Hope this helps and good luck!

@@TaintedMantis Thanks so much for helping with this. First I had to figure out how to reset the "Home " button as later Iphones (I have 13) don't have as standard.

This feels so weird compared to Japanese Riichi Mahjong.
