Jiri Lehecka has to at least be better than 11th pick in this draft, IMO! I thought this analysis was great. When it comes to who had the better team, it’s a really tough call to be honest. Because Alex to start off took guys like Draper, Rune, Shelton which are a very strong Top 3 that we know have immense potential, have gotten big wins, and already in the Top 20 mix. On the other hand, Gill looked at a bit more projection and upside taking guys like Mensik & Fonseca off the rip, who are so talented and have proven they can play great tennis already. That’s what makes picking a winner so difficult. You see guys like Ben, Holger, and Jack and they are undeniable. And then you put them next to Jakub/Joao and it’s hard to ignore their skillset as well. , plus they are a few years younger. It’s the now versus the future. How good will these guys continue to get. Gill’s approach was looking at the younger gen and their advantages, while Alex looked at the now, the obvious good young players and snagged them early. By just reading names you may think Alex wins from the very beginning, but I think it also comes down to the question being asked. Is the draft “The best players under 24” OR “Who will become the best/Who can challenge Sinner & Alcaraz/Who has the most potential” With that being said, I think who won the draft is up to a lot of personal preference. If you are looking at the best players under 24 right now, Alex wins the draft. If you are looking at who has the highest skill ceiling, I would give it to Gill. After hearing everything they had to say about each individual player, and comparing their thoughts to mine, I would like to lean towards Gill. Gill has the overall better draft when we’re looking at young guys and what they can do, what they have shown, how they can improve, and all of that. Obviously Draper-Rune-Shelton-Fils are super good and will definitely keep improving, but if I look at the other names on Alex’s list, I think they fall short to Gill’s. Gill doesn’t have a standout name like those first few Alex has. Yet his list is still convincing. I would personally back Mensik, Fonseca, Cobolli, Lehecka, Cazaux, Medjedovic being better than Shang, Tien, Michelsen, Prizmic. And not to mention that Rodesch pick 😂 Imo drops the level of the Alex’s team a little bit. Either way, this is a lot of opinion and who you want to believe has the most chances to be at the top of the game, all things considered. I may have just yapped a bunch, but I had never really watched something tennis related like this that got me thinking and analyzing so much on my own end. Alex won the draft. He has 3 of my top 4 and 6 of my top 10. Gill picked the 2 Czechs, but they should have been chosen much earlier. My number 1 pick is definitely Joao Fonseca. He reminds me more of Carlos Alcaraz than Jannik Sinner. Explosive power and great touch ( baseline drop shots, great feel at the net). Joao is going to be a superstar. Then at 2, Menshik, at 3 Rune, at 4 Draper, at 5 Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.

Their intelligence is already so high, they construct points so well, they place the ball exactly where they want to, and they are only going to get physically stronger. Basavareddy’s dominance against second serves, in particular, is frightening, standing so far in and just destroying his opponents. I might also argue that their not fitting an established player model is an advantage, camouflaging how high their potential might be. Bottom line is winning matches, and both are eating up the competition at the Challenger level.
Not because I'm Italian but I'm happy for how Musetti mentally is growing, in those last months. But offcourse I'm very upset with Rune, both could have a great future within their talent, despite their different style, but honestly one year ago I've thinked that the tennis of Lorenzo was too much complicated and technical for today's tennis, and the one of Rune more stronger. I was wrong. Upon Fils, Mensik and Shelton I've no doubt, they will find their ways in the top 20 at least, in future.

I love to watch young talents, so my future tennis stars are Fonseca, Mensik, Prizmic, Shang, Tien, Basavareddy, Landaluce, Debru, Cina, Schwaerzler, etc.. Cazaux, Perricard, Van Asche are awful choices. I expected more risky choices. But great show.
Taylor Frits must not be afraid of going forehand for forehand with alcaraz, Tommy Paul did so at Wimbledon 2024 and it paid off, Taylor should hit backhands like sinner or Medvedev, I hope Tommy Paul doesn't slump for the next 3 months
Gill politely corrects Alex on pronunciation of 'Fils" - cue long discussion on player name pronunciation. 3 minutes later Alex carries on mispronouncing it as 'Fee'. *sigh*
I’d love to know why it is that Alex pronounces most of the players names incorrectly. Does he do it to be different or is it that he thinks he’s pronouncing them correctly and everyone else is wrong… Lol?
Gotta say I'm disappointed Gill wasn't wanting to do the snake draft. It's by far the most balanced form of drafting and really isn't that complicated with small groups. Obviously, this isn't that important and is all in good fun, but it would make the draft more fair.
While I agree with you, it didn't end up mattering too much to be disappointing. Gill's picks were way off from Gruskin's. They didn't start taking each others' picks until their 8th pick or so.

There definitely isn't a 'k' sound in there and the 'ch' is pronounced in a very guttural way which doesn't really exist in english, but I don't know enough about phonetics to explain how that sound is made.
It goes like this if both Sinner and Alcaraz bring their peak form to each of their GS matches, it will go down to this: AO: Sinner (if cool and dry night sessions), Alcaraz (if warm and humid, 10% of AO have been like this over course of history) RG: Alcaraz Wimbledon: Sinner in a close 5 setter USO: Alcaraz (if warm and humid, over 50% of USOs have been humid) Sinner (if warm and mostly dry) If both players bring their A game on the day, it comes down mostly to mother nature to dictate which player will have the performance advantage
so you are telling me two top athletes are just as meteoropathic as me?? 😀😀 like this assessment. On the USO: Sinner said in his interviews that he always thought he could do well there - I assumed it is fast court so I thought it doesn't suit Alcaraz very much?
@@marissssss11111alcaraz has won 2 back to back wimby titles so i’m sure he feels okay on fast surfaces. don’t forget that US open was his first GS, too
@AbinavV06 healthy good performing sinner hasn't been shown yet at Wimby but we have already seen healthy max effort alcaraz. If Sinner brings miami 2024 game to wimbledon next year, I see Sinner winning over Carlos in a very tight 5 setter similar to how Nole won against Roger in 2019
Gill/Alex - What do you think about Jenson Brooksby? I'm a big fan of him. Not sure why he didn't play this year even though his suspension ended in March. Hope Jenson comes back with improved serves next year. 🤞 Any thoughts about him?
At the beginning of 2022 Sinner was already the top 10 I noticed some great five young guns had also arrived 1. Alcaraz 2. Korda 3. Brooksby 4. Rune 5. Musetti Brooksby has such a good tennis IQ, good shot selection, good placement and so accurate but lack of power.
Interesting picks Gill went more for potential and Alex more for guys same age as Sinneraz. For me the guys the same age have kinda shown who they are and how they match up to Sinner Alcaraz and none of them are anywhere near as good. Of that age group I think only Rune can win a slam and I’d have him first. Sinner and Alcaraz will dominate the way big 3 did for next 5 years at least barring injury. Shelton could probably win a slam too though based on his attitude . I don’t really see it for Draper or Musetti the rest of the guys that age no way. Lehecka too low though imo. Don’t know enough about Mensik or Fonseca other than some highlights the potential is there I guess but still skeptical.
There is nothing more impressive in World tennis than winning the channel slam over clay and grass within 3 weeks . That's why only Laver , Borg , Nadal , Federer , Djokovic and Alcaraz have achieved it. Mark my words , Sinner will never do it . In fact winning a slam outside hard courts is going to be difficult for him
Sorry. Annoyingly when I let UA-cam place them automatically it puts an excessive amount. I have removed the midroll ads until I have time to place them automatically
Sinner won next gen at 17. Zverev won tour finals at 20. Murray was top 4 age 20. This all starts much earlier than you think. If you aren't top 5 by 20 or 21, you never are. Mensik 64 rank just turned 19, might make it, but only if top 10 within 18 months. Rune too old, not going to make top 5. There are only 5 places in the top 5, and you stay there 15 years. So that's one every 3 years. You need to be looking at 15 year olds

Taylor Frits must not be afraid of going forehand for forehand with alcaraz, Tommy Paul did so at Wimbledon 2024 and it paid off, Taylor should hit backhands like sinner or Medvedev, I hope Tommy Paul doesn't slump for the next 3 months
Big difference! Paul is an excellent mover while Taylor isn't. Taylor is 'scared' that if he goes fh to fh Carlos will redirect and go down the line.
Added all these players on Flashscore
Plenty coming through soon as well 🎾
Federico Cina prob my fav … Budcov-Kjaer / Schwaerzler 🔥 Kaylan Bigun … to name a few more 🎾
The Navone disrespect is massive 😢
The hard and grass is way too bad plus he’s one of the oldest players in this group. I don’t blame them.
Justin Engel should have been drafted by the 5th round, just saying! :)
That was rough...
This needs to be a yearly exercise
Gotta say I'm disappointed Gill wasn't wanting to do the snake draft. It's by far the most balanced form of drafting and really isn't that complicated with small groups. Obviously, this isn't that important and is all in good fun, but it would make the draft more fair.
While I agree with you, it didn't end up mattering too much to be disappointing. Gill's picks were way off from Gruskin's. They didn't start taking each others' picks until their 8th pick or so.
next geeneration domination is alcaraz, sinner, fils, shelton, draper, mensik, foncesca, rune, van asche and mahac
and shang
perricad
holger below jack and mensik is a joke lmfaoo they will never be better than holger. holgers defense out of corners, touch, speed, backhand are a world class. please watch more of holger
Yeaze...
Totally agree
He's young & smart
Some issues now
But the problems are meant to be encountered
and He will be there with Sinner & Alcataz as the big three🌻💖🤗
Hi and sorry to do this but with the French name Gilles--the s is not pronounced--I know confusing but really much less confusing than speaking English. pronounced JEEEL. Loved this show, instructive to hear you discuss the new guys and some not so new.
The correct pronunciation is "Gill"
😂
@@Tuzzz94 that's funny--yeah might as well be--French never going to be Gill's strong suit--nor any other American tennis analyst's strong suit. Oh well, that's not why I listen to them.
45:12 As a dutch person, the correct pronunciation for Van de Zanschulp is none of the two options you mentioned here.
There definitely isn't a 'k' sound in there and the 'ch' is pronounced in a very guttural way which doesn't really exist in english, but I don't know enough about phonetics to explain how that sound is made.
Catherine from the Tennis Podcast thinks she has cracked it. I'll let you be the judge as I'm a Brit. I feel she probably overdoes it a bit.
It goes like this if both Sinner and Alcaraz bring their peak form to each of their GS matches, it will go down to this:
AO: Sinner (if cool and dry night sessions), Alcaraz (if warm and humid, 10% of AO have been like this over course of history)
RG: Alcaraz
Wimbledon: Sinner in a close 5 setter
USO: Alcaraz (if warm and humid, over 50% of USOs have been humid) Sinner (if warm and mostly dry)
If both players bring their A game on the day, it comes down mostly to mother nature to dictate which player will have the performance advantage
so you are telling me two top athletes are just as meteoropathic as me?? 😀😀 like this assessment. On the USO: Sinner said in his interviews that he always thought he could do well there - I assumed it is fast court so I thought it doesn't suit Alcaraz very much?
@@marissssss11111alcaraz has won 2 back to back wimby titles so i’m sure he feels okay on fast surfaces. don’t forget that US open was his first GS, too
Choosing Sinner over Alcaraz in Wimbledon after Carlos has won two in a row is hilarious
@@marissssss11111carlos body can handle high humidity much better than jannik's. That's a fact, largely to do with genetics
@AbinavV06 healthy good performing sinner hasn't been shown yet at Wimby but we have already seen healthy max effort alcaraz. If Sinner brings miami 2024 game to wimbledon next year, I see Sinner winning over Carlos in a very tight 5 setter similar to how Nole won against Roger in 2019
Totally subjective, who am I rooting for list
1.Alex Michaelson
2. Jerry Shang
3. Learner Tien
4.Pericard
5.Fonseca
8 minutes and inky Alcaraz, Sinner. Get going Gill,Alex😊
Why is this not available on TuneIn? All the other episodes are available?
Gill/Alex - What do you think about Jenson Brooksby?
I'm a big fan of him. Not sure why he didn't play this year even though his suspension ended in March.
Hope Jenson comes back with improved serves next year. 🤞
Any thoughts about him?
At the beginning of 2022
Sinner was already the top 10
I noticed some great five young guns had also arrived
1. Alcaraz
2. Korda
3. Brooksby
4. Rune
5. Musetti
Brooksby has such a good tennis IQ, good shot selection, good placement and so accurate but lack of power.
So sad they didn’t draft brooksby!
Where’s Rinky Hijikata 😭😭
True I mentioned Alexander schevchenko also couple names slipped through the cracks
Are you sure Cobolli is consistent? Match with Nadal with 40+ (?) unforced errors comes to mind...
@@МихаилШапир Coboli was just shell shocked playing against Rafa
For now gruskin has the advantage, time will tell for Gill
this gruskin guy produces the zestiest ooh and ahh sounds
It's cute
Love his enthusiasm!!!
Tomas Machac. Just needs to get his head right.
Gill, would you happen to know how many rpms Fonseca gets on his forehand?
GMP I love
Is anyone so annoyed by how frequent this guy kept interrupting Gill 🤦♂️ let him finish his point fgs
@@suit_darkness
Alex Gruskin and Steve Flink have a lot of tendencies to interrupt Gil's points which do get frustrating at times
Which one if these guys doesn't have a heavy forehand?
Jerry Shang winning Chengdu final!
You two were so close, 50-50
Suprised none of you picked Justin Engel or Maks Kasnikowski.
There is nothing more impressive in World tennis than winning the channel slam over clay and grass within 3 weeks . That's why only Laver , Borg , Nadal , Federer , Djokovic and Alcaraz have achieved it. Mark my words , Sinner will never do it . In fact winning a slam outside hard courts is going to be difficult for him
I'm sorry, but Gruskin blabbers too much, he gives me a headache.
gruskin won the draft!
IMO there are more hard courts than clay or grass, Sinner probably get more titles than Alcaraz,
Luca Van Assche always reminds me of Butt-head.
Is Alexander schevchenko even mentioned in this? No he's not amazing but his ranking is decent and he's only 23 did someone mentioned his name at all?
Shang should garner more respect from these two yahoos.
Forgot about mahac
Fils 2nd serve needs work
Where’s jenson brooksby
Gill grabs all of the hipster picks.
👍
Way too many ads.
Sorry. Annoyingly when I let UA-cam place them automatically it puts an excessive amount. I have removed the midroll ads until I have time to place them automatically
@@GillGross Np. The contents of the video made up for it.

Bellucci?
Rune to me is by far the best. Fonseca can't even qualify for grand slams.
@@FabioSangiorgi-vu5eg Receny Bias on Rune is real
@@FabioSangiorgi-vu5eg He just turned 18 lmao
Rune is currently on a big downward spiral. He lost to a qualifier in the first round of Chengdu lol 😂
@@nikhils2381
You're acting as if top players haven't had losses like that before...
🤣 Gill : "I am team Alcaraz" 🤣😂🤣 . Sure you are
I’m not a big fan of Gruskin at all. His voice is not a good one to listen to. His weird energy is off-putting.
No offense taken. Appreciate you giving it a chance
"We dont want to turn this into a Sinner-Alcaraz debate" Proceed to praise Sinner for half an hour and how he is sooooo muchh superior to Alcaraz.
Boring. American. Boring.
Let's draft analysts next: Courier or Koenig or Bradshaw or Gross or Gruskin for your first and second pick. Who cares about the order??? They're all multifaceted.
Comparison is the thief of joy. But Americans are bored😴... Draft zoloft or fentanyl or tylenol or advil first pick?? Oooh, interesting!!
Yes, I'll stop watching and move on now.
Lol I like how Musetti is so much higher than Jerry Shang but Shang just annihilated Musetti yesterday. The second set wasn't even remotely close.
