  • Valencia is the third largest city in Spain, it's located on the southeastern coast where the Turia river meets the Mediterranean Sea. They speak 2 official languages...Valencian and Spanish. Although English is spoken by many.
You can walk everywhere in Valencia. With no hills and perpetual sun, you’ll find yourself doing this more than you think. Avid cyclists will also delight in knowing that Valencia is a bike-friendly city. The expat community in Valencia has grown greatly in recent years with an influx of people arriving from Bolivia, Romania, Italy, Colombia and Morocco.
Life seems easier here and less stressful, this city has a collection of sights and feelings rather than just one highlight or activity; the people, the energy, the diverse architecture, the street art, the parks, the long beach, the lively nightlife and the random, spontaneous experiences you can get caught up in without even planning for them.
Thanks for watching and stay tuned for more videos in Europe.

I have moved 10 years ago from NYC to a smaller Town called Denia, 100 km from Valencia, I have not regretted this move, and I am happy that other people from across the Atlantic feel the same way. The climate, the people, the food and the many fun things to do make this part of the world one of the greatest to live.

Great video. My husband and I are looking at Valencia also. One suggestion for the videos would be to cut all of the background music. It made me want to turn off the video. It was really annoying and distracting. Please at least lower the volume of it, and completely turn it off when you are talking.

Hi, I've randomly end up here, happy to see someone interested in Valencia. I'm from a small village near Valencia and I'm impressed, you guys discovered our secret "terreta" :D which of course from the beggining of the video I knew it would fill all those check points :P I can say that in summer people from Valencia run away to a beach house in Alicante, or to their second home in the mountains 1h or less away from Valencia to basically not get boiled. The problem is not much the heat, but the humidity, that makes you sweat and sofocate a bit. If you have air conditioning or you are on the beach or in a swimming pool is totally ok, but it's quite unpleasant going out on the street specially at midday, in July-August. Obviously when you enter into the buildings and stores they have a.c. and all that, but yeah, most of the people run away if they can in summer to a more tolerable place, or less humid places. You definetly need to come back and taste "horchata", our traditional beverage to refresh ourselves in the hot seasons. It looks like milk but it's made out of "chufa", planted also near here in Alboraya. Hope you are ok and if you choose Valencia it would definetly be the best choice :D

We're expats who have been living in Valencia for two years now. You've done a nice job of showing this beautiful city. I would only add that any English speakers considering living here should brush up on their Spanish. We have also looked for a place in Spain 🇪🇸 and we choose to buy a village house close to Valencia, sea side village. We spent many winters in Valencia, it’s very worm and also in the summer time it’s not crazy hot. We plan to spend summers in Ireland 🇮🇪 and winters on Costa Blanca. Even in summer time north of Costa Blanca it’s chill.
If working remote it will be a norm from now we have plan to buy our dream house in Valencia, keeping the Irish apartment just for residency and connection with highly paid jobs in north Europe.
The quality of food, fruits, wine it’s amazing and prices are 30% from Dublin, London. 6€ for a pint 🍺 in Dublin, 7 euro for a glass of wine 🍷,100 ml it’s crazy. And aqua de Valencia it’s the best.

Thanks so much Wendy! We absolutely loved the weather in Guadalajara...you are in the dry season now so it´s heating up!! 😎
We can´t speak for actually living in Valencia of course but some of the advantages we considered would be living in Europe and having easier access to travel around the countries here, living near the beach, more of an international restaurant scene and less concern with the amount of home security necessary. We have found those same things in Lisbon, Portugal where we live now and we absolutely love living in Europe! The main concern we have personally with Valencia is being tax residents there. They have a progressive income tax rate based on your worldwide income, a wealth tax and an inheritance tax so it is definitely something you should look into before making a final decision. Let us know if you have other questions and what you decide. Best of luck!

You have to travel to appreciate what you knew well sometimes. Thank you for your kind words! So glad to hear you’re loving life in Valencia. We plan to move to Europe next year and are currently considering Valencia, Spain or Lisbon, Portugal. We’ll be posting our video on Lisbon soon. Hope to meet up in the future!! Take care!

Valencia looks to have more modern architecture compared to Malaga.

How friendly is it for non-native speakers ? Is it going to be an issue if I just stick to English !

When we were there we did not find a lot of people that spoke English. You can probably get by, however, we don't think it would be as easy compared to Lisbon, Portugal where most people spoke English.

As a valencian, most of the younger people can at least communicate in English. However, people over 30 and from lower income families usually don't speak English. It would really help if you knew some Spanish before moving here (or Catalan if you prefer it). If you just want to visit for a short trip, you're not going to have any problem, the most touristic atractions and services have employees who can speak proper English.

Not that friendly for non natives in my opinion with regards to restaurants. Have some conversational Spanish ready.

Sorry to correct you but the name of Paella originated from an Arabic word bakeya meaning leftovers, you see when the Muslims were controlling Spain, the Muslins elites were eating buffet style and the customs was to feed the poor with the leftovers from rice, chicken, seafood, spices etc… except no pork, pork was added to the dish after la reconquista, the poor hearing the word bakeya from the palace servants giving them the leftovers though the servants were saying paella but the servants were saying bakeya. 🙂

Do you talk about 40% taxes and 3 months visa?

We do not in this video. We are meeting with a Spanish accountant and tax attorney in January 2024 and will be making another video about towns in the Costa del Sol that will include information about taxes and visas in Spain.

Music is too darn loud. One has to choose between listening to your comments or going dead from the music.

I live in the US, and I would like to retire to Valencia using a non-lucrative visa. Since I can’t work due to the visa, I would be living off my dividends from my stock market investments, 401k, SS, and my Roth IRA. For the life of me, I can’t find anything clear on what my taxes would be like! (Ie. income tax, local tax..etc) I plan on renting, and not buying. Can anyone answer this!? Thank you!

I found this site that may help but it's always best to consult an accountant in Spain.
      www.expertsforexpats.com/expat-tax/expat-tax-advice/tax-in-spain-for-expats/
Also, the USA and Spain have a tax treaty so you shouldn't be double taxed. I'm not sure how they view Roth IRAs so there is a possibility it could be taxed when withdrawn.

@@SeekingParadiseBugs I honestly don't know how anyone can become an expat in Spain with a Non-lucrative visa or in general for that matter. Between the tax on savings(21%) and general income(30%), capital gains tax(30%?), wealth tax(2.5%), pension tax(24%)...your retirement nest egg will just disappear!!
