  • So this customer called me out to change the rear disc and pads on her Vauxhall Meriva. It wasn't as straight forward as she would like!
    So a list of tools.....
    * You'll need to raise the vehicle with a Jack and axle stands.
    * 17mm socket and a breaker bar to remove the wheels
    * T30 to remove the disc retaining screw
    * A 13mm and 17mm spanners to remove the caliper
    * E16 to remove the carrier... you can pick these up pretty cheap from anywhere screwfix have them cheap enough..
    www.screwfix.c...
    * Piston wind back tool.... This is my one

How do you adjust the handbrake once the pads and discs are replaced?

Hey Paul, thanks for your comment! So with rear calipers the piston is on a ratchet mechanism, when you pump the pedle like you would the fronts the piston will come out and apply the brakes. Then when you take your foot of the brake they back of slightly. That rachet mechanism is the adjuster so its done automatically every time you use the brakes or hand brake. Dose that make senses?

@@EllsAutoCare - thanks for the reply. I read somewhere that you have to manually adjust the handbrake via some kind of mechanism under the panel inside the car between the gear lever and handbrake.
If it ever gets warmer and drier I'll post an update once mine are done.

@@paulwarry6287 thats how to adjust the handbrake cable. If i remember correctly its under the cup holder. Take the plastic bottom out and undo the screw you should be able to lift it up enough to get to the adjuster nut

Thank you so much Steve! Really appreciate your comment.
The way I see it is.... if you don't clean them you run the risk of them jamming up and not moving freely. If your going to do it, do it properly!
