      Здравствуйте уважаемый коллега, спасибо вам за очень интересные видео по реставрации мебели.
      Увидел у вас тут на видео интересный инструмент.
      Платформу на Ленточной шлифовальной машине.
      Подскажите пожалуйста это самодельное приспособление или заводское ? Если приспособление промышленного производства, подскажите пожалуйста как называется оно ?

      I saw an interesting tool on your video.
      The platform is mounted on a belt grinder.
      Can you tell me if this is a homemade device or a factory one? If the device is of industrial production, please tell me what is its name?

    When you see someone make the new pulls for the cabinet, you know you are seeing true restoration. He didn't run down to the nearest hardware store to find something that looked "good enough". The grain of the wood is beautiful to see. Thank You, again. From North Carolina, USA

      My thoughts exactly! My second thought was, "Is he pulling our legs?" Never have I heard that shellac comes from bugs. And who and when did someone figure out you could use it to put a finish on wood?

      @VeretenoVids 3 місяці тому

      @odge4451 Humans are an inventive lot, aren't we? We have evidence that shellac has been used for 3000 years, but it likely goes back even further. My guess is that they observed the female lac bugs secreting their secret sauce on the trees they like to live in and saw the changes in the wood and it went from there. Now that you've found out about this bug, go google cochineal. 😃

    • @ralphiewigs2208
      @ralphiewigs2208 3 місяці тому +6

      It's a secretion of the female Lac Beetle from India and Thailand. Shellac is dissolved in alcohol and is extremely versatile in wood finishing. It's also used in food and pharmaceuticals.

    • @clairewright8153
      @clairewright8153 3 місяці тому +5

      @@ralphiewigs2208 I worked in a pharmaceutical laboratory in the 80s and shellac as well as beeswax was used to coat tablets. The tablets would be coated in a machine very much like a cement mixer and they would come out very shiny. I was never sure which was more harmful the medication or the coating.

    Well done! That shellac process, from taking off the old to putting on the new is classic and really shows your years of experience. I also enjoyed the "re-creation" of the Bakelite pieces, which looked like you were using a form of epoxy? Fascinating 🙂

    AT Restoration, Frankly I hope you won this challenge! You deserve it. I have never seen some of these techniques for removing finishes & for creating a new Stunning more to the period of MCM Restoration of a Beautiful cabinet. I was enthralled & astounded wondering what you would do next. The creation of the new but astonishingly like true period Knobs and the little accent of the thin black line to accentuate the routered top edge , are very clever. Those Knobs! A faithful recreation that will hold up for many years to come . This piece is Lovely now & could be used & treasured for many different purposes in a home or business for many years to come. Glad you saved it from the landfill! Great job. I’m a new sub, you’ve hooked me. Again I hope you won!

    In the 1980s I was a partner in a shop doing exactly as your video shows, refinishing and repairing furniture. Many times, the same type of cabinets in the same state as you show. I wish we had the modern tools you use. Recently, in the garage, I came across some old fads - rubbing pads - made in the same way as yours. Stored in an airtight box and still usable if a little shellac or meths/denatured alcohol is applied.
