shotokan from brazil white > yellow (6 kyu) > red (5 kyu) > orange (4 kyu) > green (3 kyu) > purple (2 kyu) > brown (1 kyu) > black I was brown in shotokan
Hi! I'm from Venezuela and I practice karate shotokan, where I practice the belts order is white>light blue>yellow>orange>purple>green>blue>brown>black
I thought there was more homogeneity, actually. In my surroundings we have white for beginners, then yellow, orange, green, blue, brown. They are assigned in the dojo, but certified by the national federation. Black belt is awarded only by federation, and is black from shodan to godan; rokudan on get a white-red belt. I am godan, but this is my ceiling, as I could get rokudan only if I were (but I am not) a teacher or an international referee.
KUGB Shotokan - I'm a Yon Dan black belt, we have 9 colours for the Kyu grade system: white, orange, red, yellow, green, purple, purple & white, brown, brown & white, brown and white 2 stripes.
I'm sotokan in bangladesh. My belt colour order is white yellow orange red green blue purple brown 1 brown 2 black I think we have the most belt colour :)
I trained from ISKF (International Shotokan Karate Federation), in India. Our belt order was: 10th Kyu- White Belt 9th Kyu- Yellow Belt 8th Kyu- Orange Belt 7th Kyu- Green Belt 6th Kyu- Blue Belt 5th Kyu- Purple Belt 4th Kyu- Purple-Stripe Belt Brown Belt 3rd Kyu Brown Belt 2nd Kyu Brown Belt 1st Kyu 1st Dan Black Belt. I am 4th Kyu Purple-Stripe.
I practised aikido (in France) and the colours were white, yellow, orange, green, blue, purple, brown, black. There was also intermediate belts: yellow with a white line in the middle, orange with a white line, etc, but they weren't always used if I remember well.
At da shotokan club I belonged to in Vegas, it was as followed last I knew 16 years ago: White Yellow Orange Green Blue 1 Blue 2 Purple 1 Purple 2 Brown 1 Brown 2 Brown 3 Black It might've changed tho, however.
Bear in mind; dat was 16 years ago. It’s probably something totally different now. It probably went back 2 da 8 different kyu ranks. Imma hafta get back in touch wit my old teacher tho.
I’m in a traditional Okinawan Goju school and we have only four belt colors. White, green, brown and black, but with stripes of the next color up to mark progression. For a total of nine kyu ranks.
Shotokan Karate of America, Tsutomu Ohshima Karate, maintains 3 belts, white, brown and black. 8th to 4th kyu is white, 3rd to 1st is brown, then black. We are a Non-Profit organization that doesn't have to worry about the marketing of ranks and belt colors.
Here is an interesting point... in some traditional "Kung Fu" Schools ( kwoons ) they start you as a beginner and then years later they come up to you and tell you to start teaching. That... is their ranking system 😀.
The dojo I train with is associated with SKI-P (SKIF Portugal). Belts are arranged like this: White (10th kyu), Yellow (9th kyu), Orange (8th and 7th kyu), Green (6th and 5th kyu), Blue (4th kyu), Brown (3rd, 2nd and 1st kyu), and of course, Black (1st to 10th Dan). I'm currently a Green 6th kyu.
For kids 13 or younger, there's a slightly different scale, with intermediate ranks to give kids an extra motivation: White (10th kyu), Yellow+White (Kari 9th Kyu), Yellow (9th Kyu), Orange+Yellow (Kari 8th Kyu), Orange (8th and 7th kyu), Green+Orange (Kari 6th Kyu), Green (6th and 5th kyu), Blue+Green (Kari 4th kyu), Blue (4th kyu), Brown+Blue (Kari 3th kyu), Brown (3rd, 2nd and 1st kyu) and Black for dans.
I’m a wado ryu practitioner in Sweden. 4 kyu. Adults only go from one whole belt to the next. But from 15 and younger you do mon as well, basically half steps. So you take say a orange/white belt, before you then take a whole orange belt. This is how the system was when I got them: White 10 kyu Turquoise 10 kuy (only kids under I believe 7yrs old could get this belt. Just to break down the steps into smaller goals for small 5 and 6 yrs olds. I don’t think my federation do these anymore ) Red 9 kyu Yellow 8 kyu Orange 7 kyu Green 6 kyu Blue 5 kyu Purple 4 kyu (this is my belt. But it’s no longer possible to get this belt, as it was removed by the federation my club belonged to. So in the new system Im sort of half way in-between 3 and 4 kyu) Brown (you take the brown 3 times. So 3 kyu, 2 kyu, 1 kyu are all brown). Then black. So I personally have gotten White Turquoise (taychoki shodan) Red/white (taychoki shodan) Red (taychoki shodan) Yellow/white (Pinan Nidan) Yellow (Pinan Nidan) Orange/white (Pinan shodan) Orange (Pinan Sandan and Pinan Shodan) Green/white (Pinan sandan) Green (Pinan Sandan and Pinan Yondan) Blue/white (Pinan Yondan) Blue (Pinan Yondan and Pinan Godan) Purple/white (I think it was naihanchi) Purple (I think it was Kuskanku, it was many years ago now) I was mainly focused on competing at a international level in both kata and kumite. I was a high enough kyu to get to train in the highest level of groups with the black belts. In all the clubs I was training in. And if I went for brown belts it would take time from competition training and it had requirements that you had to help in teaching classes in order to get the belt. Which would again take time from competition training. So there were many years where I trained a lot and at a high level, but just didn’t grade at all. Then I got a injury and took a break from competing and karate. Now I’m getting back into things, taking it slow as to not have my injury flare up. And now I’m thinking of actually putting my focus into grading, and actually have the time to help teach beginner groups.
In my Dojo in Italy the belts were: White White-yellow Yellow Yellow-orange Orange Orange-green Green Green-blue Blue Blue-brown Brown Brown-black Black And from the 6th Dan a red-white belt. Legends tell that a 10th Dan wears a totally red one but i’ve never seen
The dojo i attended went white, yellow, orange, purple, blue, green, brown (3,2,1kyu) Red (assitant instructor) Black. Then I switched dojo white, Orange, Purple, blue, green, brown, black. Now TKD white, yellow, yellow w/greenstripe, green, Green w/ blue stripe, Blue, Blue w/red stripe, Red, red w/ black stripe, red w/ 2black stripes, black.
At my Dojo we have: White (you start here) Yellow with a white line Yellow Orange Green Blue (what I want to get today) Purple Red Brown Brown again Black with yellow (if under 14 years old) Black with green (if under 16 years old) Black with red (if under 18 years old) Black
If you go by the belt order implemented by Kano Jigoru it's white, yellow, orange, green, blue, brown, black, red/white(6th Dan to 8th Dan) and red (10th) Dan. In my old Shotokan organisation it was white, red, orange, yellow, green, purple, purple/white stripe, brown, brown/ 1 white stripe, brown/ 2 white stripes, black from 1st to 10th Dan.
In our Shukokai school we have : White with red band or tab: Beginner under 16 White with blue tab: Beginner adult 8th kyu:Yellow 7th kyu:Orange 6th kyu: Green 5th kyu: Blue 4th kyu: Purple 3rd kyu: Brown 1 white tab 2nd kyu: Brown 2 white tabs 1st kyu: Brown 3 white tabs Shodan: Black 1 gold tab Nidan: Black 2 gold tabs Sandan: Black 3 gold tabs All higher dans: Black with school name and rank in gold
I practice Okinawa kenpo karate do, in Okinawa in the past have white, green, brown and black. Then as we use white, yellow, orange, green, brown and black.
our order of belts depends on when you start. if you started at a very young age, it'd go like: white belt white belt with the yellow stripe white belt with the orange stripe white belt with the purple stripe white belt with the blue stripe white belt with the green stripe white belt with the brown stripe yellow belt orange belt with the white stripe orange belt purple belt with the white stripe purple belt blue belt with the white stripe blue belt green belt with the white stripe green belt green belt with the brown stripe brown belt with the white stripe brown belt brown belt with the black stripe black belt If you start older, then you'd skip the white belt with the (blank) stripe phase and it takes a shorter amount of time and when you get your black belt before 16, then you get the title of sho-dan ho instead of sho-dan. the ho part adds a junior status meaning you're not fully a black belt. it does the same for the second degree black belt. Third degree and beyond doesn't do that because you have to be 21 to be able to test for it
My dojo's belt system goes as follows: White Red Yellow Orange Green Purple Purple with white stripe Purple with red stripe Purple with black stripe Brown Brown with black stripe Black 1st Dan- Black with 1 red stripe And so on
I studied at a YMCA, and started with a Goju Ryu sensei who used White, Yellow, Green, Purple, Brown, Black, but he was laid off and replaced by two Shotokan senseis who used 10) white, 9) yellow w/stripe 8) yellow 7) green w/stripe 6) green 5) blue 4) purple 3) brown w/a piece of tape at the end 2) brown 1) brown w/stripe Dan+ black. For those of us who had started with the first sensei (which ended up being just me after a few years) they grandfathered in the order of the colors from the prior sensei, but kept the same number of each, so I went white, yellow, green, purple, brown w/tape, brown, brown w/stripe, black. I had to stop after I began highschool, because of my commute and time for other sports that I had pursued at a higher level, but I consider taking it up again every two years or so, and this channel is very convincing in pushing me back toward it.
The best colors are White Yellow Orange Green Blue Brown then we have brown 1,nd brown 2nd brown 3nd we have mixted up colors to like orange and yellow it happends when u fail or when u missed something in the kata here is ur answer bye😁😁😁
Dont do karate but in my WT taekwondo school it goes white Junior yellow (white with a yellow stripe, usually for little kids that take longer, skippable for older students) Yellow Orange Green Blue Purple Red Brown Junior Black (blackbelts under age 15) Black (no gold bars) then for 2nd degree up to 9th they get gold bars (2nd two bars and one up for each belt after)
Beverly Hills Karate academy under Sensei Emil.Farkas (Shotokan) was White yellow orange blue purple green brown black. I am 1degree black. Wish I kept it up.
My Doujo is Goujuu Ryuu, and I think it is White-Yellow-Orange-Green-Blue-Brown-Black. I am still white, waiting for the resolution of my exam. But we have Kobudo, where if I remember correctly what they told me, there is only brown between white and black.

Here’s my order ( I do Tang Soo Do ) White Gold Purple (my current belt ) Orange Blue 2nd Degree Blue 1st Degree Green Green 2nd degree green 1st Degree Red Red 2nd Degree Red Black
White ,blue ,yellow & brown owner here I only sturdy at those levels firmly believe in all chiefs & not enough Indians as they say but Lo-con vegan nothing with shadow diet is what I train like great video THANKS
Our belts in a.s.k were white, yellow, orange, green, blue, purple, brown & black i gradute the kids class with purple then joined the adult class to start over and got to green by the time i was 16 or 17
When I did Karate it was yellow, green, blue, purple , brown , brown, brown , black . Initially the Browns were differentiated with a black stripe I believe but now with modern belts I would guess they have a white stripe in the middle or black stripe in the middle or something to differentiate. Now very far people ever got the yellow in this style it was given to kids and adults who were totally useless to give them another 6 months or whatever. This is early 1990s.
Sensei I practice Go-Ju-Ryu karate and I'm at Black Belt 1st Degree (Sho-Dan) My belt order is White Yellow Orange Green Blue Purple Brown-3 Brown-2 Brown-1 Black - (Sho-Dan) And 10 Dan of Black belt
I heard that belts represent progression White - New belt Yellow - sweat stains Red - Blood stains Brown - Blood stain starts turning brown Black - Blood stain eventually turns black
Oh you won’t believe how many colours we have. We have 7 main ones, but then they divided them up for example fist you get white then white yellow white yellow white yellow orange. (White orange white)
@@KarateDojowaKu LOL .. thanks 😃. My instructor's dojo uses a system of white, green-tip (6 inches of green cloth sewn onto each end of the belt), green, brown-tip (see above), brown, black-tip (again, see above), and black. I thought that it was too much, so I reduced it to white and black (with a plain white belt to start, and giving the student a customised (name in katakana) white belt on promotion to Yonkyu.
The color of the belt should not be from white to black, based on how much work you have put into the belt. The belt should never be washed off. So first it is white, after a while it turns yellow and gradually it turns red. Blood and sweat stain the belt. Then it goes to more brown and finally it is black. Note: In Aikido, at least the style I have trained, it was only white and black belt. Hakama can also be used from the time you pass the 3rd kyu.
White Yellow Orange Green Blue Purple And finally Brown, though I stopped 🇿🇦(12/03/2020)🇿🇦 because I wanted to focus on my school work because my grades we're dropping
I don’t know the belt order of every martial art but in my taekwondo school it was white yellow orange green blue purple red brown than black I have a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and Kendo and a 3rd degree black belt in ninjutsu that is why I look the way I do in my profile pic
Mine is white yellow orange green blue purple red brown than black and also there are differnt stripes for example purple black purple white and stuff and there are multiple black belts
The Shito Ryu I was taught followed the color system of Okinawa in this video. And the blackness of my belt is like the inside of a coffin on a moonless night. Just kidding, I only got to green belt. But that joke is from Beverly Hills Ninja and you might enjoy watching it on Netflix some time.
So different from Brazilian color belts (I do train in a JKA dojo) White, Yellow, Red, Orange, Green, Purple, Brown and Black. By the way I'm orange belt (5th kyu)
I started studying in World Oyama Karate which came from Kyokushin karate and the belt system is almost similar except after white it was blue, yellow, then orange. Also we had stripes added to our belts when we were getting ready to be tested.
Very interesting! In Germany we have this system: beginner white, 8 kyu yellow, 7 kyu orange, 6 kyu green, 5 kyu light blue, 4 kyu dark blue, 3 kyu brown, 2 kyu brown, 1 kyu brown, then 1 Dan und above black
I am san kyu. Brown in our system. I've always liked the legend of how the belt color system started. White like new snow. Then yellow as if seeing the sun. Green after rolling in the grass. Brown after digging in the dirt. Finally black when the knowledge cannot be washed away.
What is your karate belt color?
i do not have belt because i dont do karate but watch videos
Oos I am a blue belt
But I am basically level 9.Cause we have strips on each belt.Like blue 1(strips) and full blue (no strips).
Purple with red stripes sensei... 4th kyu..
We have white till we get brown (which I have, doing Wado Kai). Of course black is after that :-)
shotokan from brazil
white > yellow (6 kyu) > red (5 kyu) > orange (4 kyu) > green (3 kyu) > purple (2 kyu) > brown (1 kyu) > black
I was brown in shotokan
Interesting! Thanks for sharing ;)

KUGB Shotokan - I'm a Yon Dan black belt, we have 9 colours for the Kyu grade system: white, orange, red, yellow, green, purple, purple & white, brown, brown & white, brown and white 2 stripes.
white stripes! Interesting!
I am a Go Dan, so have gone through the same colour system. The white stripes on our belts indicate a level of progress at a belt level
I'm sotokan in bangladesh. My belt colour order is

I got my green belt and it was an useful content.
Thank you!
Black Belt 2 Dan here. My club's color are: white 10, purple 9-8, blue 7-6,green 5-4, brown 3-1 and black.
Nice and simple!
In my Jiu Jitsu dojo we went white->yellow->orange->green->blue->brown->black
Here is an interesting point...
in some traditional "Kung Fu"
Schools ( kwoons ) they start you as a beginner and then years later they come up to you and tell you to start teaching. That... is their ranking system 😀.
Thanks! I’ve never heard that before.
@@donelmore2540 my Sifu is a traditional teacher and told me this back in the middle 1980's.
The dojo I train with is associated with SKI-P (SKIF Portugal).

Adults only go from one whole belt to the next. But from 15 and younger you do mon as well, basically half steps.
So you take say a orange/white belt, before you then take a whole orange belt.
This is how the system was when I got them:

Brown (you take the brown 3 times. So 3 kyu, 2 kyu, 1 kyu are all brown).
Then black.
So I personally have gotten

Orange/white (Pinan shodan)

Blue/white (Pinan Yondan)
Blue (Pinan Yondan and Pinan Godan)
Purple/white (I think it was naihanchi)
Purple (I think it was Kuskanku, it was many years ago now)

When I did Karate it was yellow, green, blue, purple , brown , brown, brown , black . Initially the Browns were differentiated with a black stripe I believe but now with modern belts I would guess they have a white stripe in the middle or black stripe in the middle or something to differentiate. Now very far people ever got the yellow in this style it was given to kids and adults who were totally useless to give them another 6 months or whatever. This is early 1990s.
When I started (1968) it was White, yellow, 2 degrees green, 3 degrees brown, black No Strips. (Isshinryu)
Wow you have started Isshin Ryu in its very early stages!

My dojo is very simple: white & black.
You get the simplest belt system award!

It dont matter all kyu students are not ranked until shodan. However, schools and systems should NOT use red unless its for KU /JU Dan.
So different from Brazilian color belts (I do train in a JKA dojo)
White, Yellow, Red, Orange, Green, Purple, Brown and Black. By the way I'm orange belt (5th kyu)
I became a red belt today 😁
my belt white yellow orange green blue brown black
My karate academy. Has white belt yellow belt green belt blue belt red belt and finally have black belt
I'm gonna do karate for this summer
I started studying in World Oyama Karate which came from Kyokushin karate and the belt system is almost similar except after white it was blue, yellow, then orange. Also we had stripes added to our belts when we were getting ready to be tested.
Nice and good☺️🩷😊
Very interesting! In Germany we have this system: beginner white, 8 kyu yellow, 7 kyu orange, 6 kyu green, 5 kyu light blue, 4 kyu dark blue, 3 kyu brown, 2 kyu brown, 1 kyu brown, then 1 Dan und above black
I see! Interesting!
But still it depends on the dojo/style: At my fist we had one times blue and then two times violet
Its like that here too
I am san kyu. Brown in our system. I've always liked the legend of how the belt color system started. White like new snow. Then yellow as if seeing the sun. Green after rolling in the grass. Brown after digging in the dirt. Finally black when the knowledge cannot be washed away.
And very worn black belt is starting to look white....
