I bought a KnifeCenter exclusive Rat with micarta scales made in China and the fit and finish is crap. The micarta is painted and lock up is about 1/3 of the way and the blade coating on the black model looks cheap. The whole knife looks cheap compared to the Taiwanese Rats. Huge difference on the fit and finish Rat made in Taiwan which is great and I own several made there because they are such great quality budget edc knives. I am going to sand my KnifeCenter Rat scales and hopefully that will make them grippy so I can actually use them for work and thrash them without slicing my hand open. I’m curious if the Micarta is actually absorbing some of the satisfying “thwack” sound that we use to. I wonder if you switch the Micarta scales to the OG Rat would it change the “thwack” on the OG as well?? Great run down Joe!
I was thinking the same, perhaps it's an ecoustic issue, but I think detent might be the problem? I don't know enough about detent to really say too much though. Thanks for checking it out!
