Amazing videos, it always helps me out on some clutch jobs I've never done to get a guide on how quick or long a job can be on different cars. Keep up the good work👍
26:50 I have so much respect for this here. I did my Cobalt SS's clutch a couple weeks back and put the transmission in by hand too. That was easily one of the hardest things i've ever done on a car :)
Know the feeling. My wifes Renault Megane 1.6 16v 2008 was no joke. Seen Kevin done a clutch job on a cab same model and he made it look so easy. I struggled with that gearbox for over 40min before I got it so I could fix a bolt and im not a weak or small guy. Was soar for days all over. Even slipped and dropped the gearbox on my chest, that gearlinkage made me colorful for weeks.. Worked with heavy machinery and can say 9h with this Renault really messed up my spirit in me hahaha. Admire Kevin a lot for his work. A real pro for sure.
@lasseystad3266 It's funny that your story sounds just like mine, haha. To get the transmission to stay in the air, I fed it under with my jack, and I had a ratchet strap holding it to the jack. I then put a 2x4 across my engine bay and then used another strap to cradle the trans and removed the jack so I could crawl under and push it up by hand and back in. Even with the assistance, it was very difficult. On my car there's also a spacer between the engine and trans which is extremely annoying as any wobble makes it fall and you have to re position it. I also had the trans tumble down once and I almost gave up. Luckily I had a rubber mat on the ground so no damage was done. Just like you I'm no small guy I'm 6'2 about 230lbs. I'm not sure how he does this daily I would be dead haha. I was black and blue too the whole side of my chest haha.
@@simonriddick I remove and replace a transmission from a cat 980 easier then I did that Renault. A friend of mine have an Megane 3 diesel. He asked if I could do his to, and the answer were, NO, will never do that again. Taking everything apart and put it back to gether was not a big deal, but lift that gearbox up in the correct place were really something. I didnt use any straps or jack. I had a workout of my life pushing that up 20+ times before i heard that klonk noice telling me it sat in it´s place. But I was about to call a friend and ask for a stick of dynamite and throw it in the car and just leave. hahaha Changed the timing belt on that same renault 2 weeks after, and that was a story of itself to. I will stick to repair heavy machinery.
brilliant idea on bungy cord for the freelander which is my favourite car i have a auto td4 and the wife has a 1800 petrol mine is a 2006 and the wife's is a 1998 and she has had it 23/24 years and will not part with it I have had mine which is my 2nd one around 11 years but now I have seen what goes into changing a clutch what a job ,and great to see wheel nuts done up with a toque wrench better weather next week for you stay safe thanks for the video
What a guy. In a world were some people get paid for “working at home” this guy earns every penny for his family due to skill , intelligence , organisation and testosterone
Great job. If you have the possibility to film a scenic 3 1.6 dci for the clutch replacement in detail it will be great and no video about it until now
Almost got enough tools to kit out my own van, going to try and move into this trade over the course of a couple of months from my current job. a little scary because im not sure about how much ill be earning but from what i hear you can make a good living from it. top work as always bud, your videos are entertaining and instructive!
Great work once again. A quick question , what do you use to stop your tools going rusty after all the work in the rain? Do you dry them off or use a product? Cheers
Hello Kevin, Once again, you've done a great job! I need your advice...I have to replace the clutch kit on a Renault Clio 1 1.2 from 1994 and apparently you need a tool to lock the gear selector...personally with all the clutches I've changed I've never needed this tool but on the Clio....? Could you tell me if you know of this? Thank you David
How do you understand each other, on these narrow roads. Sometimes they practically pass through the backyards of the houses and it's very peculiar and interesting. In my country they don't respect speed very much, it wouldn't work very well.
@@WMCS good to know thanks. I recently bought the same tool and was surprised to find it was plastic when it arrived. Looks metal in the photos 😂 but if it's lasted 12 years must be fairly robust!

as usual Kevin superstar video wow that land rover gearbox looks so so heavy for sure class mechanic not many guys would be able to do the work you do
It was a heavy unit indeed. I had to take a few time out in between lifting and getting it back on.
Thank you clutch maestro Kevin for another week. Hope you filled the spot of the Q5 with some other joyfull time.

I just keep using them everyday. But WD40 is probably your best bet.
Thanks Kev. Unlike me, your tools get tough use everyday, no chance to get rusty. Mine get occasional use !
Really great videos, so can you tell us which car brand is hardest/easiest to work with i mean change the clutch?

I suppose it’s the natural rhythm of those areas .. but you’re right it can be very narrow
Kevin, quick question mate, do you torque the locking wheel nuts/bolts?
How much time in average takes you to do a clutch job in its entirety? Also how many jobs do you do on a daily basis? Love your videos!!!
From the moment I turn up including the set up to the moment I’m packing up on average no more than 5hrs
Laik molodew.
Hi Kevin! Did i sleep through the Audi repair? It went up and came down and that was that, lol.
There was more to it than the clutch. So I had to abandon ship
Van needed more axle stands
What was wrong with audi q3?
Kevin hi, what is the average mileage before replacing the clutch, according to work experience? When is the disc erased to the rivets?
In average 80-90k miles.
What do you think to those laser clutch alignment tools?
They’re very good in my opinion. I’ve been using nothing but that did last 12 years or so.
