@AlejandroFicer It’s great because you can also just give them access at any time (if you finish before they email you) and make sure it doesn’t notify them. So if you only needed another 30 minutes or something, it’s all good
I did this in both highschool and college and it helped. In fact, one of my English teachers told me "I don't mind when you turn it in because I trust that you know what you are doing and it will be good" and when I did get in that essay, he loved it.
In Middle School, they handed us iPads to turn in our assignments through there and use them to learn too. Whenever I would miss assignments by at least a few hours to a day, I would go to the settings, and change the date and time to be able to trick the system and be able to turn in my work.
@@Salmon_Lamb0 idk if it still works depends on your school since for me this doesn't work since after the time we can still upload but the teachers dont view it after that
An even better pro tip: show yourself as being dependable, on the ball, and diligent. You'll understand the work better, and therefore class will be easier. When things inevitably start to lag behind, or you need the teacher's leniency on something, they'll do everything they can to help you out. Reputation as a diligent student Will make your life so much easier and let you have so much more freedom
That's so true.. If a naughty kid asks for a two-day extension the teacher may not believe him but if a diligent kid asks for a 4-day one, the same teacher will gladly give him
This is absolutely the case. It was 12 hours before my essay had to be in and I knew I was going to be cutting it fine. I emailed my tutor and explained I might need more time. She came back to me and said I could have another 24 hours. I finished it at 1:30am that night and got 94%! Literally my highest ever grade.
I remember working on a project for my philosophy class. It was a video essay on how ones morality shifts when there are no consequences. I spent 7 hours the final day to finish it and right before submitting the file corrupted. I sent my teacher the email explaining what happened and she gladly gave me an extra two weeks to redo it
I did this in Algebra class last year, I was having an anxiety attack 30 minutes before the quiz was due so I sent an email asking for an extension. My teacher said I'd have to get like half of my overall grade taken off. She ended up just giving me my well deserved 100%, idk if she forgot but I always thank her for that lmao
Waiting till the last minute to write an essay is NOT a mistake. It's irresponsible and most of all manipulating the teacher into thinking you've gotten far on the assignment and need more time. This video obviously shows zero work done and cheating to get more time.
I'm not just talking about school assignments here. Late assignments is a thing for about 3 years of your life and then you have this thing called adulthood where responsibility for your actions doesn't end just because you're not getting a report card
That's true. So many of my teachers in hs have told us that if there are ever any issues that make us turn it in late, then to email them before. It even improves your communication mark. Just dont make this a pattern.
Our school system doesn't allow our own teachers to mark our grades so they have to give our assignments or projects to the assigned teacher. That's why if there is any problem we have to tell them beforehand.
Where I live a late assignment equals automatic fail. Or at least that’s how it is currently, in my country’s state it seems to change yearly because politicians can’t make up their mind.
I got a better tip for everyone. When teachers ask why you handed it in late, you wanna force this scenario/script to happen: Teacher: Why did you hand it in late? You: What? No I didn’t Teacher: Yes you did You: Huh that’s odd, maybe WiFi or something This will work 9/10 times as most teachers get are very technologically incompetent. Even if they’re not stupid, if you have good enough tone, you are likely to get away with it. I use this trick a lot in other scenarios too. Just force a script and have good tone. It works like a charm! If they go off script, just improvise. *The key is to not act like your hiding something, but you are confused too*
Pro-tip. Send the submission email but don’t attach the document. It’ll usually buy you a few hours, maybe even a day plus, before your teacher says the file is missing. Apologize for the inconvenience and email them your paper 👌🏼
Okay, so I made the Dean’s List last semester and I’ve been in college since I was a high school freshman (thanks dual enrollment~) Edits: disclaimer and clarifiers. out of respect for our professors who are kind enough to forgive our bullsh*t. Disclaimer: your teacher is 100% smarter than you. Do NOT use these tips all the time. And genuinely try to respect your teacher's time. Last-minute assignments can be a nightmare to grade, just like you hated pulling an all-nighter to get it done, they hate doing the same because you aren't the only person who turned things in last minute, and it all needs to be graded. Be respectful. I can assure you for every 5 assignments you turn in like this, 2 of them were 'freebies' courtesy of your teacher. Especially if they see you already making an active effort to do well on the assignment/ in the class. Take these as a hail mary, not your holy gospel. I take 12-16 credit hours per term. Before that (while in high school) I was taking night courses and full AP classes at the same time. Not including 12 credit hour summer terms. I’m an excellent student and graduated Magna Cum Laude with my associate’s degree before I chose my prom dress. Im also a _HORRENDOUS_ time manager and _viciously_ chronic procrastinator. Here’s my hot survival tips: 1. Brown nose it babe. If your professors see you showing up to every class, paying attention to most of the lecture, and you regularly email them ESPECIALLY advance notice on days you may be late to class or absent altogether, they’ll work with you much more on making up low level assignments or retaking exams. My chem professor doesn’t have any makeup exam policy AT ALL, but let me take the exam 3 hours after class time because I emailed, and showed up. 2. Send in partial assignment. Stop it at a random point. If it’s between 40 and 70% finished and you need more time, send that, and then send an email the next day along the lines of “I’m super sorry! I just checked back my submission and I sent the wrong file! This is my assignment draft!” (lifesaver for essays) 3. screenshot as much of your finished assignment as possible, include the time stamp and send an email. “hey my file is corrupted/computer isn’t working/has a virus but I finished the assignment and I’m working on correcting the issues to turn it in properly. Thank you so much for your time and your consideration!” 4. IF YOUR STUFF IS A WEEK FROM BEING DUE knock out tiny assignments, and do chunks of the big one. You’ve got time. Snatch up small easy credits when you can. 5. IF YOUR STUFF IS DUE THAT DAY prioritize big assignments. Whatever gets more points, gets done first. I don’t ducking care how much you hate it or how complicated it is. Get it done, or close to done. You’re human and you’re gonna fuck up sometimes but don’t risk losing points for effort! 6. Take a day, to get a day. choose a regular day that’s far enough away from project due dates and/or exams. Call in sick, (if you have to. Try not to so you're not another day behind, esp for a harder class. Weekends/Holidays are KEY with this one.) and take that day to get organized. Work on your assignments, catch up on class notes and get ahead where you can. Try not to do this more than 4 times a semester. You might miss a day’s notes, but you’ll gain a lot of time you needed for other stuff going on. This is where it’s important to have friends in every class so they can cover you on notes. 7. straight up tell your teacher if you're turning things in late. Arguably the truth is the best thing you have when it comes to communicating with your teacher. They might think you're irresponsible (which, did you REALLY manage your time well and still not have any leftover for XYZ?) but if they can see that you genuinely worked on the assignment and understand that you don't always deserve full-credit or sympathy for late work, it can be a great way to save your reputation with them at least a little bit. They were in college/high school too. Don't expect full credit. Don't expect a freebie. That kind of mentality just doesn't serve you in school and get rid of it as early as possible because hey, you can manage your time, or you can whine about the crummy teacher who refused to stay up till 1AM on their Sat night with family to grade ur stuff. 8. for the LOVE of God and all things coffee, if you have time to get it done EARLY, get it done EARLY. Especially big papers and things that require lots of research. Even if you only take the time to make what I call 'skeletons' (for research papers, I save quotes first, citations next, and then outlines of what I have to say about the quote on a word doc. THEN when I can sit down I flesh it out into the full paper) it'll give you a huge leg up doing it early instead of waiting and starting from 0 before its due.
I was always told in school, that it’s better to hand a assignment in late, then hand in a sub par or unfinished assignment. But at my school you only lost 5% for an assignment being a day late
@@totallynotclickbait6114Either that or if the teacher doesn’t like to use tech because of the 11:59 thing then they will add on to this rule. If you don’t turn it in at the start of class you get 25% off, and if you don’t turn it in by the end it is 50-60% off.
Yeah no, if you send in asking for an extension within 24 hours, 98% of high school teachers and college professors are going to say no. That proves even more that youve been irresponsible up until the last minute. Most of my teachers/professors would rather you send a follow up email than do that- but neither look good. If you know you dont have time to complete an assignment to the best of your ability and its before 24 hrs, email them then. but if you wait until the last day its due and ask, you are on your own.
I had a class in college where I turned everything in on time except one paper it's on paper. The teacher wouldn't take it. Later on she gave a makeup day for anyone to turn anything and they wanted that they had missed. A dozen people turned in like 30 things and she forgot to go back and give me credit on the paper I turned in a day late.
dude what. i graduated a couple months ago and whenever i needed to turn something in late i would ask ahead and 98% of the time they would be chill with it. they even say at the beginning of the semester “i understand you all have your own lives. if you ever need more time on an assignment, let me know before it’s due and we can figure it out.”
I think it just depends on what teachers u get. My teachers sometimes are the ones asking us if we need an extension, most of the time we’re not even the ones asking. And if we do ask they usually say yes
Grace your definitely still in high school. In college they give extensions 99% of the time when you ask. Trust me I’ve done it literally at least once a semester and every single time they said yes to me. Once I even missed a final bc my teacher changed the room last minute and I emailed her about it she didn’t make me take the final and just put my final grade as an average of my previous test scores. Professors want their students to succeed, it reflect positively on them. Why would they not give you an extension?
Actually, it depends on the teacher alot. I've found that some teachers will let it slide if you own up to it and send a decently long apology email. Others will not let it go if your house burned down along with your family.
I remeber a guy i went to school with entire apt building burnt down. A girl who lived in the houses by even told eveyone in class about it (cuz he wasn't in school). Well he came in about 11 am with nothing, and he smelled like smoke , who can blame that. Well the next day he is explaining to a teacher about his assignment and not having it and how he wont have his chrome book either and he got sent to the office..... the lady actually told him he should have been more responsible They lost their home And everything they own And the dog. Like WHAT and this was JUNIOR FREAKING HIGH
I caught covid for a week or so, and it wasn't that bad. Although, it was more like Flu type B. I was lucky to be able to even email my teachers about how I can't do any assignments because I felt really bad. They all were fine with it, and gave me extra time. They just said to have it turned in by next week(the week after the one I was in). If I emailed or talked to them late, they'll more likely be more aggitated and given me a shorter deadline. They were really nice :)
I went to my mothers house (she had the virus and was pretty sick but she got it while I was there) and she coughed in my face and stuff and I was fine, I got tested twice along with my grandparents which I was more worried for them then me (I live with them because my mother isn’t the best at looking after me.
My entire family except for me caught Covid, maybe I was asymptomatic but I also was vaccinated. But nobody quarantined in their room which extended my quarantine time to 21 freaking days. I basically got almost a month of school off (I mean I still had online school) for no reason. Pretty sick ngl
It depends on the instructor. Some of them are naturally more accommodating, and even the grouchy ones can have their good days, but in general, it's good to ask for an extension at least a day in advance with the semblance of a good enough reason. In case they are staunchly inflexible that day, submit the best work you can because you don't want to get a zero if they don't grade late assignments at all (avoid taking classes with those instructors next time if you are having difficulties with deadlines due to extenuating circumstances).
It's not a bad idea to be honest, if you struggle with time management tell them that you're having a hard time, or if it was a one off thing because IDK your friends invited you to something you just couldn't miss or you got so swept up in something else that you totally forgot just tell them, if you accept that you made the mistake and explain that you really didn't mean to miss it, the deadline just crept up on you, teachers are more likely to be sympathetic and try and help you. Always say it like you're admitting fault though, never say it like its an excuse or a defence, you have to acknowledge that you fucked up
@@butasimpleidiotwizard most people were just playing video games lol that's not good to be honest in this situation what's the conversation gonna be? Student: I was playing minecraft and forgot about my homework can I have a extra day to do it? Teacher: Yes you can understandable have a nice day

As a graduate lecturer myself I can confirm that this is true. I'm extremely accommodating but think more highly of a student if I get an advanced notice on a potential late research project submission etc. Edit: advanced notice by at least a day (not one minute before the deadline)
Send a mail saying assignment is attached and don't attach and sent the mail anyway, once assignment done send follow up email. Saying that I forgot to attach it.
Even better is if you are using like google docs or some document that needs you to give permission for people to open. Just send them the document or link and deny access and wait for them to request it. Works literally every time.
Keywords here “in high school”. In college, chances are you won’t be getting that extension, most profs don’t do extensions or only allow one in a semester so use it wisely. 😅
Why am hearing such varied stories from different people, other people are saying in college they're super lenient as long as you ask so which one is it
@@butasimpleidiotwizard Well, there’s thousands of different colleges and I don’t even know how many professors world wide, and not every person is the same nor every college. From my experience policies and professors were not very forgiving for extensions. This is also why I chose the word “most” not “all”. Hope that clears things up for you. Have a great day/night. ☺️
I love it when teachers say in the first day of class that they won’t accept late homework no matter what. But what happens the next class… they accept a late assignment.
Best strategy when submitting something online is to “accidentally submit the wrong thing”. This gives you another few days to work on it before the teacher notices.
@@interstatesigni dont know what kind of professors you have but no, it wont work, they know what you doing, they teaching for years not by an accident maybe when you kiddo in middle school or sometimes in highschool, but on uni - dont even try, you will embarrass yourself

@@server_5172 no the original commenter is pointing out that the captions say “cry yourself to sleep”, while the audio says “hand it in late” basically he’s pointing out how those two do not link up
Another trick: send a link to a folder on your drive on time and actually upload the work there later when you've finished. If they don't try to mark it before you're done, they won't even notice; if they do, blame technical difficulties.
My teachers are actually really chill. Even if I didn’t have a 504 to accommodate my need with late assignments, I bet I’d still be ok. Sure, maybe it’s because since it’s a choice school (it’s a STEM based school) they only hire decent teachers who actually care about the students, but I think it also helps that the majority of the students are actually at least some type of neurodivergency (most common being ADHD, such as myself). The rule is that you can submit something up to two weeks late, however a lot of them ignore that rule and let you submit past two weeks anyways. If you submit an assignment late, depending on the teacher you can’t revise it, but if you know you will be late with it you can just let them know as long as it’s more than 24 hours in advance and they’ll extend your due date to whatever you think you need (within reason of course) and then you can still revise it after you turn it in
My professor will be fair to everyone. If he’s gonna give an extension he would give it to all of us. But It’s not like everyone didn’t do it and everyone asks for an extension lol. Also sometimes it depends on the assignment if it’s hard or not or is it a lot, He would give extensions sometimes but not most of the times.
While it may not be that everyone needs it, there's bound to be somebody else who needed an extension but didn't think/wasn't willing to ask for it,,,that way, you don't have an advantage over the other people with the same needs (even if they don't voice them)
@@tddybear as it should be. Every assignment in art I had was turned in a little late, but I always filled out an extension form 2 to 3 days before due when I knew I wanted to put in the extra work. My teacher knew I was putting my all in so she didn't mind
Hmm I'm sure this depends a lot on the teacher, but my dad, a high school history teacher, always complains about his students asking for extensions when they've had plenty of time to work on something or they don't have a good excuse for needing one. I would make sure you do it as soon as possible and provide a solid reason.
Back in 2013, I just finish everything all night and sleep in class. I usually just get told to go to the nurse's office to sleep in a bed. I didn't really miss out on much because my homeroom teacher would brief me on what I missed. She made sure no student was left behind.
I really needed this, I was doing a video project presentation I hadn't done all week and managed to make out a good one all in one day today, but the damn video editor website tells me that all my files were still uploading and I couldn't export. Damn Kapwing.
What you actually do is convert a random file to a .doc format or whatever google docs uses and then it will be corrupted, then turn it in and when the teacher realizes they’ll just ask you to turn it in again.
Yeah no, I have perfected the art of procrastination so well that I won’t send it on time even for the extension. And there’s nothing worse than sending it late after having asked for an extension, or even worse, multiple extensions.
*Better tip:* - Submit wrong assignment - Finish up that assignment - The teacher tells you you handed in the wrong assignment - You apologise and send in the right one right away - Don’t repeat as to not look suspicious
I had an essay due 24 hours ahead and I ended up completing it within the 2800 word limit and SOMEHOW got an A although I did not even do a ROUGH DRAFT AHHAHAH
Here is what I do, I would open the assignment(s) on Canvas even though I did not have it completed because the assignments got locked after the due date. Once I had finished the assignment I would then change my date/time a few hours back as a precaution then submit it. Teacher never found out.
I once had a project which I knew I wasn't getting done. I tried so hard but I hated everything I tried. So I just asked my teacher for the deadline to drop out and I tried everyday until that deadline. He pulled me aside a few days before if I thought I could have it done. I said no. I hate myself for not being able to do it.
Also, what this says really is I had no intention of respecting your authority, investingy time in myself, or achieving any success in life. I hope you understand how little I regard authority and how badly I want to do what I want and whenever I want to because rules to not adhere to me like it does others. What a cool guy
My social science teacher told me something similar when I asked extension for submitting homework, it like the best feeling ever
Wish my English teacher was like yours
My english teacher just says that as long as we turn it in *some day*, we get full marks. We could turn in an assignment 4 months later and be fine.
In Middle School, they handed us iPads to turn in our assignments through there and use them to learn too. Whenever I would miss assignments by at least a few hours to a day, I would go to the settings, and change the date and time to be able to trick the system and be able to turn in my work.
Damn, I used an iPad during lockdown and never knew this

Waiting till the last minute to write an essay is NOT a mistake. It's irresponsible and most of all manipulating the teacher into thinking you've gotten far on the assignment and need more time.
This video obviously shows zero work done and cheating to get more time.
I'm not just talking about school assignments here. Late assignments is a thing for about 3 years of your life and then you have this thing called adulthood where responsibility for your actions doesn't end just because you're not getting a report card
@@cyclemiguel it was an example, why are you mad? Do you expect them to write an essay just for a video?
That's true. So many of my teachers in hs have told us that if there are ever any issues that make us turn it in late, then to email them before. It even improves your communication mark. Just dont make this a pattern.
Our school system doesn't allow our own teachers to mark our grades so they have to give our assignments or projects to the assigned teacher.
That's why if there is any problem we have to tell them beforehand.

Edits: disclaimer and clarifiers. out of respect for our professors who are kind enough to forgive our bullsh*t.
Here’s my hot survival tips:
This is my assignment draft!” (lifesaver for essays)
3. screenshot as much of your finished assignment as possible, include the time stamp and send an email. “hey my file is corrupted/computer isn’t working/has a virus but I finished the assignment and I’m working on correcting the issues to turn it in properly. Thank you so much for your time and your consideration!”
This is some of the best survival tips for school I’ve seen. Literally.
As the procrastinator I am, this is encouraging.
This is pretty helpful, thanks

@@totallynotclickbait6114 wow that’s not fair. For getting 100% you only get 50% credit? Wow
This person has never been to a school with rock bottom low standards
Actually, it depends on the teacher alot. I've found that some teachers will let it slide if you own up to it and send a decently long apology email.
Others will not let it go if your house burned down along with your family.

It depends on the instructor. Some of them are naturally more accommodating, and even the grouchy ones can have their good days, but in general, it's good to ask for an extension at least a day in advance with the semblance of a good enough reason. In case they are staunchly inflexible that day, submit the best work you can because you don't want to get a zero if they don't grade late assignments at all (avoid taking classes with those instructors next time if you are having difficulties with deadlines due to extenuating circumstances).

the fact that someone else thought of the exact thing i do makes me wonder if the teachers are on to me...
