- Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer says his party's plan to stop illegal migrant crossings will involve working with "EU partners".
Speaking from The Hague, Sir Keir rejected assertions that such a deal with Europe would be a betrayal of the 2016 Brexit referendum, and said the only way to defeat the gangs is to "operate where they're operating, which is in Europe and beyond."

Starmer claims he will process the backlog of immigrants to britain and any migrants here staying under unwarranted claims will be immediately deported. At the same time he has agreed with other european nations to accept a quota on migration. Doesn't really seem like he is solving the issue. I think well agree there will be no more mass deportation if he comes into power. Moreover I think he will simply make current illegals legal in order to resolve the hotel issue. I personally think uk more than anybody needs net migration however I agree with starmer these gangs should be taken down as harshly as terrorists. Yet I cant see him tackling these issues as harshly as he says. We need a strong leader who will let our economy recover instead of trying to make it recover.

Kier Stammer, in his previous role as a human rights lawyer, won a court case against the then Labour Government so migrants were given benefits as soon as they entered the country rather than when they were granted asylum. He is a huge part of/ contributor to the present problem.

They will be processed through the system, which is what used to happen. Those that qualify will be allowed to work and contribute to the country. Those that are rejected will be returned to where they came from. The present situation just allows the Tories to put ALL asylum seekers on permanent hold. And at vast expense. Their strategy just does not work.

UK citizens should conduct an experiment where several hundred per day, gather on the beaches and set sail for France.
Independant observers should note how long it takes for UK Border Force to make arrests and what the authorities in France do to any that make it to their side of the channel.

People thinking they are going to get a 100+ seat majority aren't looking closely enough at this. Yes, the Tories have been a disaster, but Labour remains unconvincing, and Starmer is weak. If the economy improves next year, it'll be enough to make it a hung parliament.
We have seen all this before from 1979 to 1997. 18 years of one party having a parliamentary majority. The reason was they hadn't done enough harm to enough people over a sufficient period of time to lose that majority

Its really not difficult to work out whats going on here, neither party wants to do anything in reality, if the tories cant or in this case want do anything then labour dont have a hope in hell.
Could it not be, that in reality this issue is extremely complex and difficult to solve, literally no country on the planet effectively deals with migrants. WIthout implementing literal death squads patrolling the channel, it seems like the only way to solve the issue is to work with countries across the channel to crack down on traffickers and then find appropriate places to house, integrate or deport migrants.
Its just to keep his job until he retires then stuff the uk

The government has last control of our borders! Labour's solution; give control of immigration policy to the EU. This is how brexit will be reversed; bilateral agreement by bilateral agreement. Within 10 years it will be like we never left with the exception that the UK won't have MEPs.

Asylum Seekers should be reminded that Europe has run out of money to feed more people. So if they can eat and drink and survive in their home countries, they would be better off than facing hardships in Europe in a cold country.

Because a lot of these people are extremely desperate, they have been trafficked and exploited often times continuously from where they left. Also, we do blame bartenders for selling beer to someone who is obviously intoxicated or is going to drive, its literally part of the license of any place which sells alcohol.

Bartenders are actually trained (at least, I was) to recognise the signs of when someone is too drunk and to cut them off. The bartender could actually lose the license of the bar if they sent someone clearly intoxicated home to drive. Generally you'd ring them a taxi at least

I'm not a Conservative voter, but the opposition doesn't have much to say either. They criticise the government on almost everything they propose, yet don't have a plausible plan themselves on how to tackle the situation. It's just words!
Processing asylum claims so that we can deport people who fail rather than locking them in vermin infested hotels and plague barges is a start. Setting up the processing centre in Calais (which the French government has already expressed they would accept) so they wouldn't need to take unsafe boats and actually never set foot in the country if they fail.
That is labours plan. How is that not better than what the Tory's are doing who are just wasting billions of pounds.
