As I mentioned on your Facebook, the test was not fair, as the price difference is huge. But after listening to the samples of Madonna's song, I notice that both sound very similar. This test makes one thing clear: where the investment should be made is in the cartridge, and not in the turntable, as that is where there are clear differences with tighter price margins. Excuse my English. I use Google Translator.
Very interesting comparison! Interesting how close they are but... B sounds better overall. It has a wider stereo image, better definition of instruments, layers and space. The highs are a bit smoother and the lows are a tad better defined. Thank you HiFisquarepants!
I used a pair of Focal Utopia 22 for this comparison and even then it was so close but B ultimately triumphed with better vocal imaging and instrument separation. While A was slightly more compressed sounding in comparison?
Both sound good and the difference is subtle. But I think B sounds a bit more detailed and has better demping with better (micro) dynamics. The sound seems 'sharper', if that makes sense. Also the stereo width seems a little better on B. So my guess is B is the 1200 G. If not, than the 100C is a really great deal! 😅
I think this a a great example of the diminishing returns of this hobby. B sounds better to me and more enjoyable to listen to, but not by much. My guess would be that B is the G and at 4 to 5 x the cost of the 100c it’s a pretty modest difference in sound. If B is the 100c, I’m buying one tomorrow!
Just from the first sample alone, on an M1 MacBook Air's speakers, I could tell that "B" was far smoother, deeper, and more spacious sounding. "A" sounds brighter, harsher, flatter, and more "digital" sounding. No contest, not at all subtle. Subsequent samples just confirm this. I suspect that something like a SDS mat between platter and rubber mat on the SL100C could close the gap a bit and make the differences more subtle. Better feet could probably help as well. Assuming that both decks are using identical cable connections for this test, the biggest improvements seem bound to be mechanical. I'd be very curious how close you could get the SL100C with mods sounding to the 1200G without mods, without completely breaking the bank. That's what I've tried to do with my 1210GR and APM Achromat, Isonoe feet, and changes to torque setting (the SL100C *SHOULD* be operating by default at the lower torque setting, I believe). Thank you for this! Extremely useful comparison.
I just played "Like a Virgin" from the 24/192 samples - "A" sounds like a record. There's nothing that bad about it. "B" sounds like real music in comparison. I almost don't hear a record being played in comparison, for lack of a better phrase. Everything just comes to life better, with a wider, more open image with better depth, greater rendering of the different colors and textures, dynamics, musical cohesiveness, the rhythm tightness snap and swing, etc., and its all just more engaging. Wow. It sounds amazing...and this is from a 1980s 14 bit digital recording, though a beautifully produced and engineered one. I hope you transferred the whole album with "B".
Thank you :) I'll record full LPs with the Umami Red ;) This is how the voting goes: A: 5 B: 20 No winner: 2 This Sunday, I'll reveal which is which on my secondary channel
The difference is subtle, but B sounds bigger and more detailed overall. It's the most drastic in "Peaches en Regalia" -- on B you can really make out the snare drum much better than the other turntable.
Not listening on the best system here but B sounds better. Edit.. Certainly on round one and two it does. The vocal on round teo really stands out. On my system, round three there's not much in it. Seems like better mids on B in round one and two.
Vamos a jugar Claramente suenan diferentes Me quedo con el B Y sea cual sea cada uno, para mí ninguno es 5 veces mejor/peor que el otro Esperando el desenlace
@@packgrog Yes, agree. Wow. To anyone using a computer to play these. Put the files in an audio editor and setup a multitrack session where you can instantly solo one file vs the other. The more you play them in such a comparison, the difference shown is all the more impressive.

Salud! 👍🏻
You aren't José. I downloaded the files, ploted the spectrum, and overlayed the images, and they are 99,9 % the same, and the 0.1 % difference is in the almost inaudible region. We may not hear all, but I can see pretty well.
Just using a good pair of over ear B&W headphones bluetoothed from a decent tv I think B is the G. Space and air, separation, dimensionality the give away. Curious to see the dollar difference in the rigs. Differences are slight but noticeable. Thanks for all your great content!
