    The bore of the F attachment is slightly larger than the bore of the slide which gives the note a darker quality. You would need to check the F attachmant "F" (in 1st position) against the same note in 6th position and make any needed tuning adjustments. You also need to allow for the tone quality difference. Sometimes what seems "flat" is really a darker tone quality.

    Thank you very much for creating this video! I'm a tenor player that was put on bass trombone for my College's Wind Ensemble and I didn't know where to begin learning. I'll definitely be putting this exercise to good use.

    If the F arrachment has a long tuning slide, pull it out as far as it will go and you might be able to play a B.

    Hey, how would braces affect the way I play trombone. I heard about how it affected trumpet players but since trombone is lower and requires less stress on the lips I figured it wouldn't hurt my tone too bad.

    I don't know what your opinion is of minimal movement of the jaw with articulation, but what would you say about jaw movement in the lower register?

  • @alanraph
    @alanraph  11 років тому

    Set your jaw (open your mouth) for the register you'll be playing in (wider as you go lower ) ... you needn't consciously re-set for each note. Articulate as needed for maximum sound. Set, breathe, tongue.

    to take this video 1 step further, how would you go about practicing lip slurs down to these notes (trigger Eb,D,Db,C,B) and up from them?

    I has an F attachment and when I play the F below the staff with the trigger it sounds flat, is that everyone or just me? Are there anyways to fix it? Lip it up?

    Every time I play a double trigger C (4) or B (flat 5) there seems to be more air coming out than sound. I also have a hard time making good attacks on the notes. Tips on how to improve the sound/attacks (besides doing exercises in the video)?

    Mr. Alan Raph, my father told me you wrote a theme song I heard back in the 70's I believe and think it was for Wrigley's gum is that true and what would be the name of it? Thank you, James.

    go to Google and put in 'stringing the rotary valve'. There are many sites for this.

    You do realize that tenor trombones with f attachments can get all these notes as well?

    • @seansutherland6270
      @seansutherland6270 7 років тому

      how? I'm a bass and tenor trombone player and I can't play C unless my tuning slide and trigger slide are pulled almost all the way out and I'm still in 7th and B for me is impossible unless played as a pedal tone

    • @carlenger9707
      @carlenger9707 7 років тому

      Hmm. I'm able to play all the notes just fine. Fellow bass and tenor player.

      I think if everyone could play those notes just fine then there'd be no point to a double trigger bass

    I would have to see and hear you in order to comment. Do you have a teacher?

    I get the whole concept of focus, but sometimes I find I'm paralyzed by too much analysis. In this situation, would it be better to maybe watch some UA-cam while doing this exercise to try to get it to feel more second nature?

    Single rotor trombones: cannot play a low B

      Fake it. Use bottom of the staff B position and drop it an octave like you’re pedaling
