The sad thing is that i look at this synth thinking i wish had one too. But if i had.. it would just create silly fart noises and bleeps. Its amazing how great he makes it sound!
Hi man. Wow I really like this. Every time I check you out on here I am amazed how. Wonderful you sound. I also can't help remembering all the times I saw you play in a field in Aber back in the day. Peace.
Yeah its difficult in a gig situation, the wall thing has to be sideways on for anyone to see anything, and venues are not always suitable for that, but sloping horizontal isnt much better as only the people at the front can see anything.
The grooves are so sick and the melodies are like butter, I don’t no much about modular yet but this is where I would like to get to in terms of performance no matter what I use, peace and love man 👊🏽👍🏽
Thank you. I dont use specific scales, they are created from adding just intonation intervals from 4 separate sequencer tracks in 3 different meters, so I just improvise and see what happens.
Dope! I was waiting for a new track since long time! Finest as always! I'd like so much to understand how you sequence your drums! Thanks a lot Steevio:)
thanks ! the sequences are really simple, or it would very difficult to sequence live without saved sequences. Just one or two notes in different polymeters on 2 simple analogue sequencers, but all interacting with each other and combining and re-triggering each other to create complexity with the rhythms and melodies.
@@suzybeeMINDTOURS Can it be public zoom meeting? Interesting to got this knowledge too, especially workflow with switches, tune transposition, and section arranging. Thank you in advance. As always stunning performance!
@@radioshaolin thanks for asking, I dont do public Zoom meetings unfortunately, as I take part in the Circle of Live /In Bloom one-on-one mentoring sessions (link at top) and its part of my job. I did try to do public Zooms and found it too stressful. Samuli is an acquaintance so I was wanting to catch up with him.
No one does it quite like you. It's always a pleasure to hear you work. I suppose you are at least partly to blame for all the time that my bank account sits at $0.00 because I am spending all my pay on modules so I can jam live for folks. Thanks for the inspiration, I guess, lol. Please never stop.
Mind bending as always steevio :) Would you consider giving 1:1 lessons over zoom? Would love to get 1 melody line in my modular trying to sound a bit like yours. Also, I'm gonna be bringing my live set around europe next year and was wondering what's the best way of having a chance to attend your festival as a punter! Thanks again!
Hi There, sorry missed this when you posted it, I do 1:1 session on Zoom via Circle of Live the link is at the top in the info. To attend Freerotation you have to be a member, I can join you up if you send me an email to this address referencing this conversation; admin@freerotation.com
beautiful track! I'm still trying to figure out your interacting sequences through the precision adders.. Do you add the 2 A155 sequences to each other or do you just use the precision adders to add fixed offsets to create octave / key transpositions?
thanks Tim, yeah I add and subtract the 4 sequences from the the 2 A155s in different combinations in 2 precision adders before inputs into 2 channels of quantizing, and another 2 channels of quantizing come directly from the sequencers, then the 4 outputs of quantized streams go into 4 inputs of an 8x8 precision switch matrix, the other 4 inputs are offsets, 1,2,4 and 5 semitones, repectively, which when added together in various combinations give you a 12 semitone chromatic octave. The 8 outputs go to the 8 VCOs. There's literally millions of possible permutations. The sequences themselves are also interacting with each other rhythmically, each triggering changes to the other in various mathematical ways via sequential switches.
yeah loads, check out the Bandcamp link in the intro above.. This track will also be released on pt 2 of my new album, pt 1vinyl is due out soon, so might be a few months before pt 2 is out on vinyl
Hi Raskol, yes I do. In this track they are separate EGs but triggered by the same sequence, sometimes I use different triggers from different sequences, just depends what works
I watched this thinking "what is THAT going to sound like?!" Oh, it just sounds really, really good!
Reminds me of early Plateau. Nice jam.
Just wonderful! I would love to be there live. You are a genius. Basta!

Dude about time!! Love
Really inspiring jam, and great explanations in the comments there too, thanks a lot. Greets from Flintshire.

I like the horizontal modular more than the vertikal wall. Looks like it’s better for dancing too.

Fantastic workout once again! Would be interesting to see/hear how you build your performance system.
Hey Samuli, we should do a zoom sometime and I'll give you some tips
