  • In this video, I break down a patching idea for a funky polymetric beat on my modular system. I'll walk you through how to build this patch step-by-step, so you can create your own version, even if you don't have the exact same modules. Inspired by the artist Steevio, this patch makes use of sequential switches and unique routing options that open up endless possibilities for improvisation. Whether you're a modular veteran or just getting started, you’ll find some useful tips to make your beats more dynamic and groovy!

There is a town called Braintree in MA. Some of the best 80s punk bands are from Braintree and the Braintree area

Funny how sometimes you see something you already know but then something clicks in your mind.
I realized while watching this nice video that a 1-to-4 seq switch suits trigger signals better than a 4-to-1 seq switch, which is just overkill and useless for triggers in the end.
I was testing the Octa Switch module by Doepfer with this wrong approach, and I just got nothing better from trigger patterns. The patch was just complex for nothing. Things need to be simpler and make quick changes to patterns a switch at a time. Leaving an output empty is also a good choice in this case.
It's really compelling to have each voice being triggered separately, not at the same time, and have a patch that evolve while respecting this separation between voices. Now the music is complex, not the patch. Easier to mix as well.
Thanks to this video and one about how to make dub techno by Martin Stürtzer for this epiphany.
I'm going to rectify my performance patch based on this "separation" idea. Thank you!

Did you know that there's a town called Braintree in Essex here in the UK?

Yep! There's one near Boston too... (Copied from the original, many of the city/town names in that area were named after UK places) I used to live near the US Braintree and always loved that name. :)
