  • Join me as I delve into the world of Ardbeg Heavy Vapors, the latest of the Ardbeg Committee Releases. In this episode, I talk about how this whisky was made, why it was made, and what the absence of a purifier in the lyne arm does to a a flavor profile. Is it worth the hefty price tag of $170?

Really enjoy your content…because you’re informative / insightful & come across as humble & likable. Same reason I like the SLB Drinks channel. Best two whisky channels IMO.

Thats high praise. SLB Drinks skyrocketed in popularity and I agree, him and his son seem like great people.

    Three reasons to get this.
    1. It’s a bottle flex, not a lot available and not a lot of people ponying that kind of cash for what it is
    2. Ardbeg Fan Club Collectors Item. Like Pokémon, gotta catch them all
    3. The only validly sane reason to get this is its uniqueness. The company stated this was the only time they took the filters off and do not plan to ever do that again. Probably because it didn’t add a lot. But to experience exactly what that filter does and what the lack of it creates, you have to get this bottle. Or find someone who will sell or share a pour. Seen this on the shelf but did not get it. I might go back and kind of hope it’s gone by then 😆💰🔥💨🥃

Awesome Honest Review! Glad to see that Whiskey Tubers can call it like they experience it. I have been recently experiencing the sadness of the Lagavulin Special Releases and wondering if they are indeed special....

The Dark Cove Committee release remains the best scotch I've ever tried. The special releases are kind of hit or miss, I wasn't impressed with the Drum or Scorch. The Blaaack was good but not worth the price. Thanks for the review.

$170!? They must be smoking all those heavy vapors before putting them into these bottles because that's crazy. I saw this on sale at my nearby shop for $145, so they obviously aren't selling a lot of them. I debated on it for that price but after watching this review I think I'll pass. Even at $145 there are plenty of better whiskeys I can get instead (or even maybe 2). This looks like a 5-6 year based on the color to me, I think you are generous for assuming it is 8. Kudos to Ardbeg for not coloring it at least. Paying $170 for a 5-6 yr old whiskey that is intentionally unbalanced in flavor sounds criminal to me. But I'm sure some bros out there will scoop it up for the exclusivity alone. Great review btw. You have a new sub.

I'm going to keep an eye on it at my shop. They have a full shelf of these things and if they drop it down to $120 I might buy it just for the YOLO / FOMO effect. I'm mildly intrigued but its probably one of the least interesting committee releases. I think you nailed it on the head when you said "it's just not interesting, its slightly different". Thats why I'm struggling so much, it just isn't interesting, it sounds like the Ardbeg 10 that they messed up, and decided to turn lemons into lemonade by selling it for 3x the price instead of dumping it.

Hey if you get a chance - get the Bizarre BQ. It's not gimmicky - to my surprise - it's lovely! If it's nearby and available - grab a bottle, put on a steak on the BBQ and enjoy!!

This one is very good to me. Funny you’re comparing it to the 10 as I think they said the “missing” purifier happened I believe 10-11 years ago. This one was so good I bought another! I think I’ll always buy the LEs 🤷🏻‍♂️

Great review! I'm thinking of picking up a bottle for my friend's birthday, he's a big fan of any Islay scotch with some of his favorites being Talisker 10 and Laphroaig Select/10 year. Do you think this bottle compares in any way to either of those? Thanks!

Love the video as always and so happy you managed to do a comparison between 3 Ardbegs. So between the Heavy Vapors, the TEN and the Wee Beastie, can you rank them 1 through 3?

    • @TheWhiskeyDictionary

With the secondary flippers vacuuming up every reasonably priced bottle out there it puts these fair pricing stores in a bind. I like the loyalty idea. Down here a store has sort of run afoul using rewards points due to current Connecticut liquor laws.

It does seem like prices keep going up as the quality keeps dropping. I feel Blaaaack was amazing and I've had a couple older ones and loved them. The newer ones were okay, but ripoffs. Nothing personal to Dr. Lumsden but it really seems quality has dropped off since Glenmorangie took over.

Interesting review, and I hear you. Was just at Ardbeg and got to try this and the BizarreBQ, this year’s Committee bottle. Liked the HV and was going to buy it for £120, but then tried the BBQ, and oh my. It sounded like it would be awful but it is flat out tasty. And was only £75! So that was easy. Definitely try BBQ when it comes to the states.

@@TheWhiskeyDictionary They succeed in making meaningful marketing which are unique and describing the product correctly and honestly. Moreover they manage to do this with comedy in an category (scotch whiskey) which can be quite stale. In other words - they tick all the boxes. Also the sub-brands created (eg "Blaaaack") seem to contribute to the main brand without cannibalizing on it. All the packaging have a common characteristic so you can't miss it's an "Ardbeg" product. Ie same bottle, same logo etc (This is often done badly by others). I'm sure there is more you can add...
