Don’t ever doubt the strength of an open mind, and the deep energetic connection of a mother and her child. ❤️
you got that right
As I’m listening at 5am on a long dark highway this is actually freaking me out 😅😂 amazing storytelling!!
Yeah! Thank you!
The panoramic photos in this series are simply BREATHTAKING! I Love this channel 🤓
Thank you, I film all of those myself as I travel thru Appalachia
The powers of prayer and a mother’s love are boundless 🙏🏻❤️🕊🐾🦌🌲
Amen
These old true stories are a part of history that is not taught in schools. History is a major part of our life. We can learn much from it. Hopefully young people will find your channel here and watch it & learn a great deal more about our American culture and history.
Thanks for your kind words my friend
I've heard the story before, but I never tire of a well told tale. Excellent version of this classic Southern Gothic!🧟♀👻
Thank you 🙏
Awesome story!! I'm so glad that Zona's death wasn't overlooked by county officials. It is sad that she died the way she did, but she got the last words in through her mother. Revenge can be sweet with the right circumstances. Thank you again for a great story 😊
Long live Zona 💜
@@TheAppalachianStoryteller Amen!!!
The way you tell a story JD is as though we're right there and it actually comes alive, and its no longer just a story. Thanks and Have a Good Evening 🙂.
Thank you, I tried to do justice to Zona's story
JD this is absolutely some great spooky dooky stories lately! Well done! My maiden name is Rains, I have a LOT of relatives in the Tenn and NC still in these old appalachian mountains. Man the stories that were shared from my grandparents, parents other close family members had/have a Boo Coo of stories. Some of which are quite unbelievable, from how living life in those rugged mountains, to crime, to spookiness. It's an amazing way of life, hard but honest so much so that they were so self sufficent, poor or no, that when the great depression hit most didn't know unless someone else told them. I appreciate and love your channel, you have a great story telling voice. I watch you and another man (Mr. Donnie Laws) I only watch you 2 gentlemen. I love any and all stories, good or 'dark' of my ancestors and their way of life. My family branched off and ended up in a little town in central NC in the late 1800's called Boone Hill, known now at Princeton, NC. Anyway, again, thank you for your awesome upload.
Thank you Crystal, I appreciate your support, Donnie is a subscriber of my channel and I of his. Thank you so much my friend 💜
I watch Donnie as well. He is also a good story teller.
@@sambarnard9628 yes he is
I love Donnie's videos too ❤ Another good one is "Celebrating Appalachia"
Bouxcoux
Many times, I've driven by that one room schoolhouse you used for illustrative purposes in this well told tale. ♥ Nice!
I love that school.. and I have a complete story on it, "island view schoolhouse"
I love this story. There is no doubt in my mind that it's true. I do believe spirits walk the Earth, and that their awareness of us comes and goes just as our awareness of them come and go. I do know that our ancestors watch over us, and help us as needed, as long as we are seeking guidance and help from them, and that they know and understand our struggles when it's needed. I wish everyone who has had a loved one who died by murder would have the chance to have their loved one testify in this manner to them, but I doubt everyone knows how they died. And their living family members may not have the ability to see things of the spiritual realm.
Well said my friend
Another awesome story. And so much love the ole pictures with the story.
Thank you Lisa ❤️
This ranks as the best ghost story ever told imo. Great story, narration!
Thank you my friend!
What an intriguing story and told so well! Thank you for helping to keep 'history' alive!
Thank you!
Wow..this gave me chills. Great Video!
Thank you my friend
I remember hearing stories about the Greenbrier ghost when I was a kid.
indeed, a great story
A very haunting story I love the locations you use in the background. The Storytelling is excellent. Really enjoyed this Ghost story
Thank you Jim! The corn field and barn footage were from grainger county, TN, the bridge footage was from the Holston river outside of new market TN and the two barns and horses were from where this story happened in West VA
Great story, I had heard this years ago, but it seemed alot less spooky ( for lack of a better word) the way you tell your stories are just awesome!!
Thanks my friend, I appreciate your support!
Now that was one bit of information I never would’ve thought happened, yet it did.
Thank you for the bit of history.
Thank you Richard!
You ARE awesome brother..THANK YOU , for your AMAZING STORIES !!!..(AND, your also AMAZING MUSIC .!!!)
Thank you my friend! I loved the time I spent on this story. I traveled to West Virginia to film it and visit Zona's grave. I did my best to bring justice to her story. Thank you for the music comment too 💜
Amazing story telling! Thank you for this well presented video.
Thank you so much 💜
I would like to encourage you and your (apprentice) to continue the oral history of the mountains I love so dearly.
Thank you my friend
Thank you for a great telling of this story.
thank you my friend
I live in Greenbrier County White Sulphur Springs this is most deffently true our local theatre group in Lewisburg puts on a play about it every Summer....
That’s awesome
J.D. amazing story. I sat at the edge of my seat. You have such an amazing God given talent in telling this history of the Appalachian Mountains, but I have to say this is at the top of the list. When you got to the point of him wanting that boy to go to the house what 4 times questions in my mind already began. Great job J. D.
Thank you Thomas- when I was filming and researching this story- I traveled to West Virginia and sat at Zonas grave just listening to the quiet for about 30 minutes looking for inspiration to tell her story
I'd heard about the Greenbrier ghost but never got the whole story... until now! Very chilling...and sad. I'm sure glad her mother listened to her daughter's ghost...
Thanks JD... Happy Halloween 🎃👻
happy halloween Kathy 💜
For what it is worth, I'm a believer. Thank you for sharing this great story.
Thank you my friend
Terrific story again ... thanks JD......
Dee🏴✝️
Thank you Dee!
Wow, I believe in Spirits. I found your channel due to I love Trains and pulled up Greenbrier Train. Dig in further to your channel and this Greenbrier Ghost came up and it's Halloween Weekend.
I live in Richmond Virginia and there is Hollywood Cemetery with many famous people buried there along with very large stone pyramid with thousands of Confederate Soldiers underneath.
They say this cemetery is haunted.
If you walk through this cemetery you
would also say it's haunted.
That's for composing excellent history videos. I will keep you on my list.
Thank you my friend 💜
There is definitely something unsettling about cemeteries. I got swarmed by flies like in a horror movie once whilst going rockfishing. I looked up and saw the cemetery on the clifftop above and felt a ominous feeling. I think now that it was a warning that I might have had an accident and drowned. I went somewhere else to fish. Whilst researching my wife's family pioneering history I had to stop visiting graveyards. I was feeling the sorrow the next of kin felt.
Just read an extremely long story on the trial and the goings on and now I understand a little more what may have taken place back then. I love digging for facts. Thanks again .
Thank you 💜
Where did the Blood come from, that the boy saw when he discovered Zona.?
I grew up about 30 minutes from Greenbriar. I've never heard this story but I will say it's do beautiful there it's breathtaking. Just massive rolling green hills- as far as you can see in certain locations. Can't wait to finish listening to this story!!! Sounds like a good one!😉
I love that area
Great story. Never heard of it, but now I know and I enjoyed the telling of it so very much. Wonderful!!
Thank you Libby
This is one my favorite ghost stories, especially knowing that it is true 💕🙏
Yes! This is a great story!!
This is near my neck of the woods, a col hrs drive away. I've heard of this but never in depth. Thanks!
Thank you my friend
"Neck of the woods".
Love this! Just the right amount of spook.
Thank you Julie!
LOVE THIS STORIES I'VE WATCH A LOT OF VIDEOS WE ARE LUCKY COMPARED WHAT ALL THE WAY THEY LIVE I NEED TO TAKE MORE PRIDE IN WHAT I DO HAVE 🙏🏽
Well said
This is one heckuva story! I definitely believe there are so many things we don't understand!!
Thank you Chelsea 💜
your stories an presentations are top notch . great vid . thanks
Thank you Sir 💜
He sent that kid in there on that horror. What a gross human! But a BRAVE guy. I'm surprised he didn't blame the boy. No one checked where the blood came from?
Andy became a man in that moment
Hey! You did my story recommendation! You did a great job with it, too!
yes I did! thanks so much for the recommendation 💜
I live in Area. It's no joke it's a true story.

Incredible true story! Im just discovering your channel via my brother who lives in another state. He told me about your great channel and I’m glad he did !
Yeah! So glad your here
Love it!!!!!
thank you 💜
That was a wonderful story the way you told it. Not good that she died, but nobody could of told this better.
Thank you so much for you kind words, I really appreciate them 💜
Yet another brilliantly told story ❤
Thank you my friend!
@@TheAppalachianStoryteller i really do love all the history you are telling us about. This way people learn and remember. That’s priceless to me.
Thank you for the story. Zona deserved so much better than to be hurt by an ungrateful man who was supposed to love her and then killed her at such a young age. Wherever she is now, I hope her new life is happier and fuller. Knowing how determined her mother was to get justice for her, I hope the two are together again.
Well said
Amazing story. Thank-you
❤️
I loved this story. Since forensics was not available back then, Zonas ghost did a great job on conviction of this killer. I see people still come and see her grave. Nice headstone.
Yup, I went to her grave during filming this
We had a road where I grew up in Illinois that was called lantern road. They claimed an old farmer died in his home many years ago. And sometimes you could see a lantern cross the road. Many people claimed they saw it. Not sure how much they had to drink when they saw it. But I've seen a few things when drinking also. Lol . Good thing I grew out of that stage of life.
😯
Awesome, thank you for sharing !
Thank you!
So much for the old adage that I'm sure the murderer quite confidently believed that the dead tell no tales.
💯
Thank you for all your hard work and excellent storytelling gifts to bring us such truly great entertainment. God Bless. Riveting story my friend. Rest In Peace Zona.
Thank you John- i tried to do justice to Zona
@@TheAppalachianStoryteller You did sir. She like so many victims of cruel domestic violence, deserve so much better. What is more evil than betrayal to the point of murder from someone you have opened your heart to and love. 😕
@@johnjessey6955 indeed, I actually went to her grave when I was filming this video. The church in the video is where she is buried too. I sat there for about 30 minutes listening to the quiet looking for inspiration to tell her story
@@TheAppalachianStoryteller Very nice. I can sense that empathy and respect come through in the telling of her story. Thanks for being an exceptional guy, makes my heart glad to know folks like you are out there. Much appreciated. I pray the work of your hands and heart are continually blessed. Your friend John
It's about time you did a WV story. Been waiting on one
Thank you sir- most of the footage in this video was filmed in West VA- we filmed a lot there a few weeks ago
My family loves to tell stories and jam whenever we're together. I feel right at home here,
So glad to have you here!
Very interesting!🎃
thank you my friend 💜
Best one yet. Keep em coming
Thank you 💜

That was some good story telling.
Thank you so much!
Good Evening what an incredible story and to think he almost got away with it.
Thanks happy Halloween
Thank you my friend!
@@TheAppalachianStoryteller +Your most welcome 🙏
Thank you for this video 💕 I know Sometimes my dreams have been about the day after I have it. Like a fore warning. Once I dreamt about my great grandmother. My grandmother was 11 yrs old when her mother died. She had held a grudge against her mother for dying and leaving her and her dad alone to raise her 3 brothers. As a child she would destroy photos of her and never liked to talk about her. Jesus gave me a dream of her standing on top of her pine coffin, wearing a long white dress that bellowed in the breeze. She had long black hair and God said she wore a size 3-4 shoe. I said naw..it was probably a 6 or 7 but God flashed big numbers before my face and said 3-4..okay ..He made sure I knew the correct size. He showed me it was dusk or dawn. On a sloping hillside. A archway was at the entrance to the Cemetery. Her dress had a high neckline and long sleeves. She was beautiful. I told my granny when I woke up and she cried. Later on she took me to her brother's house in Ohio to his attic and pulled out the picture of her mom..laying in the coffin, leaning up against a corner in the room. Everything God had shown me in my dream was in that picture. The photo had lightning flashing across her coffin. I asked granny why and she said it was a sign that she was a Holy woman of God.. She gave that photo to me and I still have it. My granny was small but had boats for shoes. She wore a size nine, triple A. She was blown away that God had given me all those details about her mom...especially the correct shoe size she wore. I also get many dreams about the future yrs ahead of me yet. I've gotten pretty used to people thinking I'm crazy until Jesus proves them wrong. God can show us many things! And it doesn't take a witches board to do it! 🙏 🙌 ❤
Wow, incredible story, I enjoyed reading it! ❤️

I am hooked. Thank you for your stories it is extremely interesting. I remember so many stories and I have forgotten many. Mountain people are different than others. Doing our genealogy gave us some very informative information on many branches.
Thank you my friend! 💜
ALSO.. FYI I'M SO GLAD I CAME ACROSS YOUR CHANNEL. THIS OF COURSE IS MY FIRST TIME SEEING YOUR WORK. BUT LET ME TELL YOU THAT I WISH ALL STORIES WERE AT LEAST AS GOOD AS THIS ONE...! SERIOUS.. WELL I'M LISTENING TO ONE NOW... FOR REAL! GREAT JOB... NO AWARD WINNER... BUT DARN GOOD... THANKS, I MEAN IT> KEEP ROLLING
thanks for the feedback my friend
I have heard of another story where a ghost testified and got a conviction in a case in Quiet Dell, WV. I believe it was in the late 19-teens, early 1920’s.
I’d love to hear about it, theappalachianstoryteller@gmail.com
WHERE YOU BEEN.......? JUST CAME ACROSS YOUR CHANNEL... LOVE ALL THINGS PARANORMAL! AND YOUR CHANNEL IS AWESOME...! GOOD NARRATION.. SOUTHERN ACCENT & ALL.. P.S. JUST SUBSCRIBED & HIT THE LIKE BUTTON.. HOPE IT HELPS BROTHER, I'LL KEEP WATCHIN... GOOD LUCK....! STEVE, CHARLOTTE N.C.
thank you Steve
I’ve heard this story before, but never with all these details. Especially Zona’s spirit spinning her head around to prove her neck was broken. That’s the spookiest thing ever! 😱
I did lots of research on this story, the spinning the head around was right from her mother’s testimony in the court transcript
The A.I. said, "apple'latchin Mountains."😂
Great story
Thank you Mary!
I love all your story videos. ❤
Thank you my friend
Wow what a story! Is it recorded anywhere? Amazing!!
Thank you my friend, it’s a true story
I'm wondering, why didn't the Doctor notice the trail of blood on the floor. Does a person bleed with a snapped neck or was the blood from another injury? What an interesting story my friend, can't wait to hear more real time believe or not stories in the history of the beautiful Appalachian Mountains.
all good questions
Maybe if someone fell and caused head injuries or abrasions and cuts when they fell.
Edward made it look like she fell down the stairs. People today still try this cover up technique.
