The night this audio came out my parents had an enormous fight. I have a 6 year old sister, and so I took her away from the shouting and made noise and played with her and helped her to sleep. When I heard the song I cried so much because I remembered being her age and being all alone, and I had been holding and protecting my sister in a way that no one held me. So the title/refrain has a double meaning, holding my younger self in my head as my current self, and holding my sister in her stead, taking care of her in all the ways I can, because I didn't have anyone to take care of me but she does.
Sadly being the youngest in my family. Although I still protected my brothers. I was the only one who had the bravery to stand up to my father. However that would end in inhumane torture but still. I'm alive and hopefully my damned father isnt.

This MV (especially the shot in which Sawayama falls from the roof) reminds me of Bartha Mason in Charlott Bronte's novel Jane Eyre. It makes a sense when we consider that Rina Sawayama is herself an immigrants. The song is (in my interpretation) about how to deal with one's ethnic identity. I'm pretty sure that this song is so rich that it must yield many different interpretations.

For me its about holding on to what is essential to who you are in the face of life forcing you to change. She talks about not recognizing herself at a certain point "teach me the words...I forgot them long ago." Its about living without acknowledging her truth, wanting to run away from herself but at the end wanting to rediscover who she is and what she's made of "I want to remember, she is me and I am her"

I don't think some people realize just how LUCKY we are to be alive at the same time as Rina to witness her ART in real-time.
Rina is so underrated, I swear she's one of the best and most talented artists nowadays, this song is so amazing, why does it have so little views?
Well, it just came out yesterday ... so there's that ...
@@robneff7084 I see but it still got only 200k views while trash gets millions of views, anyways I still believe she should be more popular
@Mel Mo She IS mainstream, just not in the level of Lady Gaga for example
どうしてこうも最高なのだろうかリナサワヤマは。
歌詞と表現が凄く刺さります。
MVも相まって今年で一番好きな曲になりました。
これからも応援してます!
okay so when is rina going to direct, produce, and star in a short film adaptation of the yellow wallpaper
Definitely this is Song Of The Year for me and the video makes it more glorious
This time, she deserves a Grammy nomination
rina’s expressions in this were so beautiful and cinematic. excitement in the air to see her acting debut!!
Rina makes such bangers. No doubt her music videos will be as exciting as her music!
almost cried experiencing this without listening to the single beforehand. everything she delivers, i felt it all. goosebumps all over. the kind of dance music you put on to give you a sense of hope in the middle of bleakness. rina, i love you for your generosity in giving what the public wants without losing your essence of self.
1:45 high note- Eb5
This MV (especially the shot in which Sawayama falls from the roof) reminds me of Bartha Mason in Charlott Bronte's novel Jane Eyre. It makes a sense when we consider that Rina Sawayama is herself an immigrants. The song is (in my interpretation) about how to deal with one's ethnic identity. I'm pretty sure that this song is so rich that it must yield many different interpretations.
nobody’s doing it like rina, she’s incredible
Rina has the best music videos nowadays.... better than almost all the A-lists
WATCHING THIS MV AND SONG MAKES ME REALIZE WHY IS RINA SAWAYAMA SO CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED 😭 SHE’S SO ARTISTICALLY, LYRICALLY, MUSICALLY INSANELY TALENTED LIKE THAT
Cried after watching this…
I just love how theatrical Rina is in her MVs, and I just love her music. SHE'S GOT A POINT, SHE'S AN ICON, she is the moment.
Rina's letting us know that we have to hold the girl, but my wig is the only thing that has to be held after this....she ate this up 👏🏼
I'm surprised at how good this song and video are !! She is an artist that I don't listen to, just follow because she has potential. And wow, I didn't even think she had THIS potential !! This song seems like straight out of the 90s masterpieces era.
Entregou conceito, tendência, moda, atuação, tudo!! Que clipe meu deus… RINA você sempre será FAMOSA!!!

This is a song about caring for your inner child, she's trying to escape from her past but she can't. She keeps getting pulled back until she looks inside of herself and takes care of her younger self and that allows her to finally escape. It's rare a song really hits me the first listen but this made me cry. Beautiful!!
I just read her interview with the BBC about her inspiration for this song. Wow. You’re an incredible artist and I’m glad you’re talking about this sort of thing because it happens all too frequently. ❤️
RINA SAWAYAMA VOCÊ SERÁ SEMPRE FAMOSA
This video had everything, budget, production, excellent direction, a good storyline, a message, perfect execution. Rina keeps saying as always.
Rina's Vocals, Visuals and Artistic Talent is Truly Majestic... Everything Rina does GIVES ME LIFE!!!

rina sawayama is such a philanthropist, she just keeps on giving. this is such a serve
Rina deserves a lot of Grammys! First her vocal then her music videos. cant believe that she's still so underrated
gerçekten tam bir yıldız ama amerikan endüstrisi işte
@@ssanghyeoun7326 ses desen harika. Güzellik desen harika. Kreatiflik desen de var... Endüstri Katy Perry i bile yuttu artık o yüzden şaşmamak lazım böyle şeylere haklısın
They Grammys don’t deserve Rina the queen getting a Grammy is rather an insult rlly
Lyrics:
Reach inside and hold you close
I won't leave you on your own
Teach me the words I used to know
Yeah, I forgot 'em Iong ago
So hold the girl
Hold the girl
Hold the girl
Hold the girl
Hold that girl
Hold that girl
Hold that girl
Sometimes, I get down with guilt
For the promises I've broken to my younger self
Moving on, maybe l never will
'Cause I left you spinning on the carousel
Been living without you
Been living without you
Reach inside and hold you close
I won't leave you on your own
Teach me the words I used to know
Yeah, l forgot 'em long ago
I wanna remember
She is me and I am her
So hold the girl
Hold the girl
Hold that girl
Hold that girl
Hold that girl
Sometimes, I just wanna run away (run away)
Leave behind that old me, start again (start again)
Then I remember who l'm really made of (who I'm made of)
And she's been hide-and-seeking, waiting all along
Been living without you
Been living without you, oh
Reach inside and hold you close
I won't leave you on your own
Teach me the words I used to know
Yeah, l forgot 'em long ago
I wanna remember
She is me and I am her
So hold the girl
Hold the girl
Close to your heart
Never, ever let you go (never let you go)
They'll tell you to sit up and shut up and grow up
What the hell do they know?
'Cause the girl in your soul's seen it all
And you owe her the world
So hold the girl
Hold the girl
Reach inside and hold you close
I won't leave you on your own
Teach me the words I used to know
Yeah, l forgot about 'em so long ago
Reach inside and hold you close
I won't leave you on your own
Teach me the words I used to know
Yeah, l forgot 'em long ago
I wanna remember
She is me and I am her
So hold the girl
Hold the girl
This MV being shot in my country and majority of the crew being bulgarian is the best thing ever, I love Rina so much
Another masterpiece by the next queen of pop, album of the year is coming!!
For me its about holding on to what is essential to who you are in the face of life forcing you to change. She talks about not recognizing herself at a certain point "teach me the words...I forgot them long ago." Its about living without acknowledging her truth, wanting to run away from herself but at the end wanting to rediscover who she is and what she's made of "I want to remember, she is me and I am her"
The fall at the beginning reinvented Gaga’s epic fall in Paparazzi.
It's fantastic how Rina can go really well in different styles. Such an amazing musician! 🥰❤️
When will this woman get the recognition she deserves!!??
The UK should send Rina to Eurovision!
She only holds a Japanese passport despite living here since she was five and graduating from Cambridge University!
@@capitalb5889 Nah, don't think it's about nationality. She could still compete for UK
@@capitalb5889 she has basically permanent resident status in the uk. There is a slight exemption if she lives somewhere else for 2 years however
@@capitalb5889 A performer doesn’t have to be from the country they’re representing (or even live in it) at Eurovision
@@jacks2624 ok. Good to know. You do have to be for the Brits Awards I thought.
This deserve 1million likesss and 500m views! This is a masterpiece!!!
Looked her up after seeing her perform on Graham Norton show and wow she is amazing.

I've been running away from my past for so long without ever coming to terms with it. This song and video are beautiful aesthetically and meaningfully. I've been reminded that to truly love myself in the present, I need to embrace who I used to be, because she deserved love too.
This feels like a dream. Seeing how to grow as an artist means enormous joy for me. I love your music I love your art. This is without a doubt one of your best discographic works.
Hino supremo! PQP!
Manoo que vozzzz 😭💖
she sounds so much like lady gaga in the choruses. I am obsessed
*Close to your heart, Never ever let her go!!*
This is art people, this song and video are beyond a lot of things that were dropped this year. Give this woman the recognition she deserves. Its epic, iconic, legendary already
The song just makes me cry, honestly. I also want to remember the ball of sunshine that I once was. Now I only have regrets because I know my younger self would be disappointed of what I have become.😭
Ansiedade a mil pro álbum da lenda, nos deu três hinos, fato!
