Have a great week everyone!
For those who are interested, my fiance started a channel where she demonstrates the smithing process behind the (Zelda) jewelry she sells. She will be uploading more and more videos in the near future. It's especially fun for those who recently bought a piece, or are looking to get into silver smithing themselves ^^

Awesome video
Gaaf!
I hope she's doing OK after the recent health scare 😊
@@farideh4698 Thanks! Yeah she's doing well now ^^
i’m still depressed that there won’t be dlc
I'd imagine most people on the team want to move on
The game is huge enough on its own anyway
Hyrule Warriors: The Imprisoning War. Bet.
@@JaidynReiman Honestly I feel like we might not get one. Nintendo are werid like that
Same dude, I need dlc!!
@@JaidynReiman I’d totally be down for that. I’ve even drafted some of my own ideas for it.

The rat in the remade version killed me
Didn't realize the rat was secretly a murderer. :O
I still really wish we got the long cave pathway. The bridge from the trailer alone is just such an awesome detail and setting.
They knew we would jump off the bridge and wander off to the depths of those caves until we couldn't progress anymore lol
I think the bridge is still there but I think it’s unreachable until you head to Ganon at the end of the game. I believe it’s where the gloom hands are beneath Hyrule Castle but the bridge collapsed
@@jmacosta excuses.. but I laughed
I feel like it was the original intent. We'd go through the whole thing as an intro and then revisit at the end game for the descent into Gloom's Lair.
@@ZiggyMandarr That would've been such a cool twist ending. I loved a lot of ToTK, but the story was just straight up annoying and stupid at times. Nintendo team shouldve made it more serious like Twilight Princess. Not making it linear or closing anything off, but just by changing it would've made so many fans happy. I can't help but feel like ToTK will fall behind BoTW in the future. It reall should've been a DLC.
The goal was recreation, but after seeing the cinematic masterpiece at 24:31, I'm convinced it's surpassed the original. 10/10
Ikr like that mouse
Ratty McRatFace 😭
Damn mouse taking my popularity!
THERES A RAT IN MI KITCHEN
the judges also would have accepted “i’m the giant rat who makes all the rules”
I don't care if it isn't as quality cinematically. The inclusion of the rat was godlike. 10 out of 10.
Rat good ending (he gets to boogie)
I think Ganondorf should ride on a Unicorn in more games. Nothing is deadlier than the sword horse.
Agreed
I wonder what ever happened to that horse. Boy it would be cool of they made a DLC to answer questions like that
I sure do wish I could fuse it's horn to a sword
I love how Ganondorf simply wreaked the whole chamber and did not care at all about him falling down the pit alongside a ton of rubble.
So clumsy and reckless smh
Well, Ganondorf wasn't at full power, which is why he allowed himself to fall.
Bro bust his nuts 😂
Ganondorf had a paraglider
I will never forget the big Dondon they used as a beast of burden in the trailer, WHERE DID MY GOOD BOY GO??
He's just hanging around Faron now xD
Damn, now that I look back at the original 2019 trailer it had so many interesting differences from the final game. Also, it would be amazing to see this done with the second teaser for totk.
Yeah! I feel like the 2nd teaser is just different enough from the finished game to do recreation as well. Later trailers only have very minute differences, so those aren't really eligable for a "remake".
@@MonsterMaze The only sad part about the second teaser is that we see some sky island near Thundra Plateau that are simply removed from the final game. Also the designs of the sky islands seemed to me less man made and more natural.
Zeltik actually did this in one of his story explained videos
''So many''? There's about,, 3. Or 6 if I'm really stretching. And those are simply things like better-looking DonDons or slight shifts in Tapestry details. Cosmetics. What We really needed was a Dungeon where We travel back to the past to see the Zonai. Or if that's too plot breaking: at least a present site in the Sky where We can see another Zonai based Dungeon with much better preserved relics.
I love what you did for the rat 😂
Pretty impressive with what you had!
(Please let us pet the doggos nintendo)
Not being able to pet the dogs is the biggest crime in Zelda history!
@@MonsterMazeAs well as a lack of cats, only in Mario & Xenoblade we see Nintendo have some respects towards them.
@@sollato0293 personally I wish we had cats. They are the best pets in my opinion.
I'm not trying to be mean, but I kinda felt like the rat scene ruined the whole thing...
Am I the only one who thinks the trailers are more exciting that the actual game, even after beating TOTK, when I go back and watch the trailers, I get so much more excited than actually playing the game. Listen I love TOTK but by the trailers, I kinda thought the sky would have way more in it, I thought there would have been a more linear story, I thought we’d get more traditional dungeons, but none of that ended up being the case. I really was hoping we would have a better blend of linear and open world.
I feel more or less the same way.
ye their expectation management was horrible
Tbh I feel the same way about BotW. The final trailer for that game is sooo much more exciting than anything in that game. I love both games more than most other games in general, but the trailers definitely showcase a different vibe from the actual game.
@alliesangalli1757
That last trailer fooled everyone into thinking the game was going to be a much different experience. Coming to terms with this, I learned to love BOTW and it became one of my top favorites ever.
I feel like they should've given us a new map for TOTK. A smaller one with a more focused design and better suited to the new abilities, and story as well. They could've released a new 2D Zelda in the meantime. I just think too much was reused.
I feel that theres more actual mystery and things to get your mind racing with the original teaser, and sure thats probably because it was literally the only thing we had to go off of, compared to the final game where a lot of the theorizing has to do with trying to make sense of conflicting and maybe even somewhat thoughtless elements and how they connect to existing lore/worldbuilding
Very cool to see the 2019 trailer recreated with what we have to work with today. Thank you for the shout out, Don! MaxLastBreath has my deepest thanks as well for creating such an incredible tool. Couldn't have done it without him!
Thanks Geist! Max sure is the man ^^
huge thanks for being a part of making this happen, geist!
You captured the magic of that first teaser perfectly I got chills
I'm so pissed we didn't get a malice rat boss :(
Same! >:(
Still sucks that we never got ganondorf singing suavemente in game as the boss fight as a leak may have suggested 😢
That would've been godlike, hahah
TerminalMontage made an entire rest of the video to go along with!
@@orngjce223 yeah i know and someone did a whole animation too
Environment development tells a story behind the Zelda-team. The underlying story there in this video helps me come to understand some things about their decision-making. Hearing your thought process and getting your perspective on deciding shots was great too. The team's decisions on the artifacts left behind, the scraps, and the concept refinements - as a fellow artist and a zelda-theory-enjoyer, I salute you. All of this effort is much appreciated, Don.
I like the format/content for this video. Process review on an edit + Zelda-lore theory mashup gives us an in-depth review of the environment in TOTK. Gets the creative juices flowing.
Thanks a bunch Pixo, that means a lot to hear!
You consistently create fantastic content. Really enjoyed this video!
Thanks a bunch David!
I am still really amazed at how close the teaser actually was to the real thing. They really loved what the had made, and for good reason.
This was genuinely amazing! I do wish the zonai architecture and general aesthetic was the same as in breath of the wild, and that the story was a bit darker though
We would’ve had additional cutscenes of Link x Zelda’s journeys in the underground caverns while riding on the Dondons beneath Hyrule Castle (as seen in the first teaser) as well as more of their interactions with one another (shown how strong/connected their relationship is after the end of Breath of the Wild) before discovering Ganondorf’s mummified corpse if Nintendo considered adding them in the final game.
7:10 Instead of the precursor to the murals of the Imprisoning War, it could be more depicted as the backstory of Ganondorf being the warlord for the Gerudo people before he becomes the Demon King.
I honestly think the opening had so much potential in the original trailer I also think the tone of the trailer was darker than what we got in the end
I remember Aonuma saying he wanted TOTK to be darker, like Majoras Mask and Twilight Princess. He specifically used those two games as examples. We did not get that at all.
@@pancakes8670 When did he say that? The actual source. As far as I know was that he said the first teaser was darker, that's it.
what a full circle moment, i discovered your channel via the botw2 trailer chronology video! i think that was also the first video that got me into theorizing?? my life has never been the same. i love this game. great job!
OG viewer in the house!
Same! I've probably watched every single video and been subbed since that one
Honestly? I think it turned out pretty well :D And you mentioned the pictures from the artbook… I’d like to see some comparisons made to the final release. Or whatever you had in mind for it :)
You’re making good content anyways, so I’m excited for any future videos really haha
Thank you for your efforts!
Exactly! 👍👍💯 I mean, of course I wanted more - like another Zonai based Dungeon in the Sky and another maybe in the Lanrayu Promenade.
At least Maze is constructive amid the usual boring ''oVeraTed'' and nitpicky trash videos out there lol. I _loved_ TOTK, for me it makes Breath irrelevant. It's Tears' own League that it falls short by the standards set by itself!
Bro, I remember sitting in my car watching the BOTW 2 teaser trailer and E3 2021 on my mom's phone back in 2021 and now, Tears of the Kingdom has been out for 6 months and I've already completed the game. Like you said, time sure flies!
It's insane! Also, remember when we thought the game would release around 2020/2021? How wrong we were xD
I never really noticed the differences in things like color correction and black levels between gameplay and cutscenes in the game, but it was pretty clear seeing it all cut together here. Nevertheless, an admirable job. I certainly wouldn't have wanted to attempt this.
Your video of putting the clips of the first trailer in order was the first video I watched from you, crazy how much you’ve grown since then. Cheers!
Thank you for the shoutout!
Thanks so much Max! Your freecam will make producing TotK content so much more fun!
@@MonsterMaze ah man wait til you see the new features 👀, glad you're enjoying it! :)
@@maxlastbreath I got a small preview from Geist here and there. The time/weather control feature looks amazing! If you'd like some extra pointers, you can contact me on Discord. I've been playing around with it enough to have a clear picture of it's inner workings ^^
@@MonsterMaze fair enough! I'll dm you in discord soon :)
Very well done video!!! I love the end result!!! There’s so much from the original trailer that I think could’ve improved the game itself, but hey Nintendo still did a good job with the final opening scene. I look forward to future videos either like this or just more Zelda talk!
If they crossed that bridge right before the game started, and that would've been the last they had the dondon, then perhaps the scenes with the dondon merely took place right before the game started? This would be a weird choice though, especially with how the dondon quests later act like Link has never seen one before... Despite Zelda having discovered & ridden them & Link staying by Zelda's side most of the time, so even without those scenes Link should've already known about them...
I wish that was the only time Link is clueless and others around him too. Hestu? We meet Hestu and he's surprised we can see him, like BotW never happened... If you, like me, have discovered the memories (out of order and spoiled myself, but ok) and Link finds out alongside you, that Zelda is a dragon and Ganondorf used Zelda's image as an illusion, then Link should not stay silent and be surprised when fake Zelda roams around, why doe she not tell anyone? Compared to all that the Dondon thing seems like the least kind of problem xD
This was such a fun & creative video and yeah you nailed the trailers orginal magic
Your editing is top notch as always
I love the video, and you did a fantastic job on what you were doing! But it also gives me a lot more respect for the original - which I loved at the time, too, too obviously. Coming at it with so little info but making such a banging product is awesome. Making it so readable with so little info, so fast cut and yet so understandable. It's a really solid trailer. I watched it over and over, even after we got new updated trailers. It's just a beautiful piece of work.
That teaser is burned into my memory at this point, haha ^^
WAKE UP BABE, NEW MONSTER MAZE VIDEO DROPPED
This was such a cool project! It's neat to see you using your skills as a professional editor and pointing out subtle things like consistent camera movements across shots.
I’ve been thinking about this for weeks now, surprisingly. Great video MonsterMaze!
I like this concept of returning to past theories! For instance, there was so much hype around, “what do these characters mean?” Or “what are they saying in the music near Ganon?” That I would love to re-explore.
I remember when people got so desperate for info that they started breaking down the trailer like it was a fnaf game. People would reverse the weird audio and bullshit that it was saying “help us” or something, or try to translate the zonai symbols using the gerudo script, etc.
In reality, I think its always been clear that there was never any hidden meaning to the trailers, but at the time it was fun to pretend like there was. That it was some big mystery we were supposed to figure out that would give us clues to the story (a story that probably barely even existed at the time)
I'm always down for these sorts of goofy shenanigans. Well done recreating the trailer with the limited amount of resources available to you, and giving Ratty McRatface the respect he deserved.
Ratty MacRatface's new moment was glorious!!
That was AMAZING LOL!! The last text part made me lol you're the goat!
I actually think the entrance that was cut from the final game that was in the trailer might have been the entrance to the room with the bridge, because they are almost identical, the main difference is just that the final games one has the more angular style zonai architecture. Also the shot of zelda looking at the murals on the wall is identical to a different shot from what you used in that same cutscene, the only difference is its flipped. And i believe the shot of zelda turning around and gasping may be an early version of the shot where malice shoots at Zelda.
You might be onto something there!
I think you did a great job! Happy new year everyone!
That was great! Well done and very entertaining! Thanks!
I don't think that old video is what got me into your channel, but it was sometime around then
I hadn't played botw yet, so your videos made me even more excited to play it, I look back fondly on that time
I had honestly forgotten much of the footage from the 2019 reveal trailer given the multiple years that have passed since it was first shown, so this was a nice recreation. Very good job.
I remember back when the first Breath of the Wild teaser came out, I thought that the Guardian was supposed to be some unstoppable force of nature that would hunt you down throughout your journey through Hyrule. That thing was SHMOOVIN!
They definitely do in Relics of the Past. And their new music definitely reflects their now relentless nature.
Very well done all around!
Incredible work. 🙌🏻
Amazing to see all the work before the reveal !
Amazing work!
Oh crap how did I miss this upload!
The rat got me hahaha
That was really good! The shot of the castle was ACTUALLY CRAZY, soooooo good job.
Geweldige content. Jammer dat ze beelden van de teaser niet hebben gebruikt in de komplete game. Maarja we kunnen niet alles krijgen
I think you're right about the Secret Stones not being a thing when the teaser was made. They probably had the concept of how the Sages would work down, but I'd guess the Secret Stones was thought up primarily to give Ganondorf a motive that wouldn't involve the Triforce.
Exactly!
or maybe the secret stone looked literally like stones (so circular like that jewel on cgi ganondorf).
From what they said through interview, the gameplay is always the first thing they make regarding a game, then comes the scenario once they have a solid base. Thought maybe this time they drafted some ideas like zonai, secret stones, time travel, dragon (btw it's quite strange how similar the scenario seems to be compared to the wano arc in one piece)
Great video! It was even better that the first video and that was amazing!
That's great to hear! Thank you ^^
The game is out and we are still analyzing this damn teaser!
The teaser is eternal... all hail the 2019 teaser
So enjoy your content ❤
Ooh. Excited to watch this. 🤩
Another fabulous video!! The rat at the end killed me😂
I think you managed to capture a cohesive vibe for the new trailer, it’s very similar, but lacks the anticipation that the original trailer gave (I think it might be the lack of music? Idk)
Your trailer did capture an ominous nice which fit well, I enjoyed it!
I really liked the deep dive into camera and physics of TOTK that this video gave us. I didn’t know that the intro existed in a different and separate “layer.” I would love to learn more about the behind the scenes code of the game ( like we saw here)
Happy Holidays!!
Your recreation of the rat scene was truly amazing and a feat of rendering and aftereffects.
Watching the first video arranging the scenes was so interesting, seeing it again but with what we've been given makes me feel nostalgic almost, but sad too I didn't really feel the 'we're going darker than MM for this game' when I played it save for the opening this recreation captured the feeling I got from 2019
justice for the rat(s). Amazing work Don! That looks amazing! Thank you so much for discussing your process in such detail, not just showing us the finished product.
It’s great to hear your voice again Don. Have a nice holiday! 🎄
Thanks Kenchi, happy holidays to you too! 🎄
I think that 'teaser analysis' video is how I started watching your channel. Ah, happy memories
Back to the good 'ol times
Your rendition is great, really quite amazing.
loving the content of this video your doing a great job man keep up the great work😉❤👌
This is incredible!
I genuinely hope the 2019/2020 story is revealed somehow, even so long after the trailer I’m still so curious about just how different it would be
Just commenting to say that you are a legend for including that part with the rat in the recreation
I've barely started but it is already clear this is a great video
This turned out really good!
I think the shot of the entranced you mentioned was actually for the lightning temple.
That's what most people thought anyway.
I was hoping he'd mention the rat I've been looking for a video like this also the recreation was incredible I love how you called them out on how you can't pet dogs. I'd love to see more about prerelease stuff and concept art
I most wanted to see what happened in the cutscene where Zelda is drinking water from the river and Link turns to talk to her. WHAT WERE THEY SAYING I NEED TO KNOW
8:55 You can't believe how much I relate to this statement. I've never heard anyone else say it, so I'm actually very relieved right now
Glad to hear I'm not the only one who cared about that. Something just felt... off about this new Zonai style.
While true it has proven to be a concept, the first teaser of Breath of the Wild did show references of Princess Mononoke.
That was awesome! Very well done. I love how you managed to squeeze a rat in there
The new version of the trailer looks really cool and improved!
This trailer recreation the only one I’ve seen that gives off the same vibe as the original, amazing job
this was incredibly well done, and the parts with the hamster and the parenthesis at the end cracked me up!
I remember the first video and it really hooked me up. It really sucked how they changed most of things. I didnt mind they removed the dondon, i mean the animal would have been 100% killed with the upheaval, but the thunder and the shadow of imprisoned Ganondorf was impressive.
Great job
I paused about 2/3 of the way through the video to offer some speculation I have about the change in the Zonai architecture.
At one point, Rauru talks of how they created the constructs to aid them in their endeavors, but after a time the constructs became so good at it they just ended up doing everything. Maybe the more uh, organic-looking ruins were made by Zonai hands, and what it was changed to was made by the constructs? As repairs were needed, the constructs were the ones to do it; there'd be a change in the architecture if this was the case, especially if they weren't capable of the same designs the Zonai themselves were. The Zonai as a society wouldn't have been too willing to hold onto "more traditional" ways of doing things as their technology advanced.
I'm sure there probably were members of the general populace that would have wanted to do things the old way, probably entire communities of them, but it wouldn't have been relevent to the TOTK lore for the devs to include it, especially if their civilisation was on the decline (or freshly gone) by the time Zelda went back in time.
Whether or not Rauru was aware of possible pockets of "traditionalists" among his race, I'm going to assume that maybe they had all faded and died before his birth, their ways dying with them. Or, if they didn't, he may not have had sufficient interaction with them for him to consider it noteworthy enough in comparison to what he grew up with, so he wouldn't have mentioned it.
We might have a lot to chew on regarding Zonai society, but it's still not really enough to figure out what their "usual way" was - stuff that was so ordinary to them that there would be no record of it anywhere because that was how things were and they never expected it to change.
Ok, I'll shut up, sorry for the text wall that seems to have dragged me around lol.
Really great video and i was really suprised you still got the rat in the trailer
goodness i forgot how ominous that first teaser felt. great work! i really wish the game had delivered on zonai structures being based on the botw design like in the teaser... or even evoked the same type of feeling the teaser did
That was PHENOMENAL!!! can you post the two trailers side by side? the dancing rat was amazing!
The dancing rat at 24:31 brought it all together tbh lol
I have actually wanted to see something like this for a long time! It ended up looking great.
It's such a shame that they changed so much, I love the vibe of the trailer, the mystery.
I'm still disappointed there were no rats in Totk.
Luckily, Second Wind adds them to BOTW.
Really cool how the recreated version still matches pretty close to the original reveal, cool to see all of the differences from early trailers to the final product!
Fantastic video!
You did great. Happy new year
Happy New Year in advance ^^
So much work and detail went into this. the rat really caught me off guard XD
Great recreation of the original teaser! I love the rat!
So good!!
I laughed at that recreation, the rat and then the sudden silent shot of the castle was awesome.
Man I'm so glad you're still making videos for ToTK, Idk why but I can't find much ToTK videos and I've been starving for them...
The game is a bit more stingy on lore compared to BotW unfortunately. Which is in part due to the fact that it's the same map. And the Sky Islands and Depths sadly don't have a whole lot of environmental storytelling. This is a much more gameplay-focussed experience. I think that's the main reason why there haven't been as many theory videos on TotK compared to BotW.
@@MonsterMaze oh that makes sense, hopefully they'll ask monolith soft for a new map for the next game lol
The rat and “footnote” after the sequel’s announcement made it a masterpiece! hahaha
Yes you did manage to capture the magic of the original! Very mysterious and making you crave for knowing what's happening
This is a video you watch several times!
