The entry from 2005 is one of my favorite Eurovision entries ever. Shiri Maimon killed it on stage looking gorgeous and singing amazingly. I wish you could react to that one some day!

1983's entry was special because it was about how "the people of Israel live." This was presented in Germany a generation after the Holocaust, so it is really meaningful. The yellow on their outfits was supposed to look like the yellow in the yellow stars Jews had to wear during the Holocaust. Also, Ofra Haza sadly died of HIV in her 40s due to a blood transfusion gone awry.

In 1996, unlike the previous two years in which a screening was held, and countries that finished in the last places were forced to be absent from the competition, this time the European Broadcasting Union decided to allow any country to apply to participate in Eurovision. 29 countries sent their songs in March 1996, about two months before Eurovision, for a screening stage. In each of the countries, a judging committee was assembled that listened to audio recordings of the songs and scored them, and the seven songs that received the lowest cumulative score were eliminated from the competition. The only country that was exempt from this filtering step was Norway, since it hosted the competition.

The Israeli winner in 1998, Dana International, was the first transgender victory at the ESC. She wrote the entry of 2008 and participated again in 2011, where she failed to qualify for the final.
The Israeli winner of 1978 Izhar Cohen, also participated in 2005 (5th).
Yardena Arazi (1988) was part of Chocolate, Menta, Mastik (1976). There is a story that she actually didn't want to participate again until a fortune teller told her that in 1988 the song starting on #9 would win (Israeli was originally allocated to this place). As Cyprus withdrew, Israel started as 8th. Fact is that Celine Dion won for Switzerland as song #9.

Mira Awad is an Israeli arab singer. not Palestinian. she was born in Israel to a Christian Israeli arab Father and Bulgarian Christian mother. she lives in Israel and pay her taxes as an Israeli citizen 100%. the Palestinian title she only brought on her self as part of the nerative continuing for years that we are fed with that all arabs who born in Israel are Palestinians. we all know that the day Israel will sugest them to hold Palestinain citizenship if they feel Palestinians and to give up on their Israeli citizenship they will all deny it because life in Israel are way better. so....in a nutshell that explains why difyning her as a Palestinian is wrong. stop being fed with this nonsense nerative. Israeli arab who was born in Israel is Israeli. Palesinian arab that was born in the Palestinian Authority is Palestinian. this is the real truth.

In 1989 representative was only 12 years old! And also if there's a copyright he would explained that so If a year skipped it means Israel didn't participated. Also the first country who won a contest and after that didnt participated at their home(they won in 1979 but they didn't participated in 1980)
And then Israel has the first Transgender eurovision winner(1998) before the show, she got many threats from the public because of she's transgender. In 2000 they had the worst eurovision entry ever!
And finally Israel had many many lgbt acts just like 1998,2010,2011,2016(these are that I only know)

The years 1980 and 1984 were skipped because Israel didn't compete in those years. This was because in both of those years the contest was held on the Israeli annual memorial day, which is dedicated to respecting the memory of all the fallen soldiers and terror attack victims of Israel.

Dew to financial difficulties Israel couldn't host the 1980's contest 2 tearsin a row and the date clashed with the hebrew IDF memorial day so Israel had to disqualify itself and the europian union apologized for it. In 1984 the date clashed again with Memorial Day for the martyrs of the IDF. According to Eurovision 1993, it was decided that the six countries that finished in the last six places in Eurovision 1993 would not participate in Eurovision 1994, and this was to make room for the new Eastern European countries that asked to participate in Eurovision, and to prevent a situation where the number of participating countries would reach 30 countries.

Why Israel didn't participate in 1980, according to Wikipedia:
"Israel, winners in 1979, declined to host the 1980 show for the second time in a row, as the IBA could not fund another international production, and the Israeli government turned down a request to extend the IBA budget. The European Broadcasting Union also set the broadcast on the same day as the Yom HaZikaron holiday, wherefore Israel decided not to participate. After Spain, the 2nd-place winner of 1979, and reportedly the UK, refused to host, the Netherlands finally agreed to host the show in a small-scale production."
Israel's withdrawal also explains why 1980 is the only contest Morocco participated in (Morocco is an Arab nation, and Arab nations are political enemies of Israel).

    • @oyunaskieurovision
      @oyunaskieurovision 2 роки тому

That's so true and Arab nations doesn't like Israel so in 1979 Turkey withdrew from the contest because Arabic nations told that you shouldn't go to eurovison in Israel so Turkey withdrew in 1979 and came back in 1980 because Israel wasn't the host country.

well 17 place is more than many people expect for her.. the national final was very bad that year and the chosen song quite weak.. that's why this year another channel took the challenge(and brought more money) to choose the act+song.

Oh yeah, if you thought the cactus thing about Iceland was funny then this is what wikipedia says about Israel's 1988 entrant:
"Arazi has always been highly superstitious and consults an astrologer on all matters in her life. The astrologer told her the song performed 9th would win the competition in Dublin, Ireland. Israel had drawn 9th in the running order, so Arazi agreed to represent Israel. However, when Cyprus withdrew from the contest, Israel's position shifted to 8th. The 9th song did win the competition; with the Swiss triumphing from that position.:
