- Lesotho's Prime Minister, Sam Matekane, has declared a national state of food insecurity disaster.
This comes in response to the severe El Niño-induced drought affecting the country and the broader Southern Africa region.
The government reports that up to 700 000 people, nearly one-third of the population, are now facing severe food insecurity.
