I'm exactly the same. Right handed with everything EXCEPT shooting. Also left eye dominant. I also used to drop the bolt with my left hand (although for me it was the middle finger because my hands aren't quite big enough to allow my trigger finger to reach), but ultimately came to the same conclusions with just reaching around with my right hand. I found that with my left hand, I spent the entire reload process thinking about not messing up the timing of the bolt release rather than thinking about the environment around me. By using my right hand to drop the bolt, I'm allowing the reloading steps to be independent of one another so that nothing is dependent on perfect timing. With practice, this has allowed me to go into more of an autopilot mode while reloading so that I CAN put more focus on the environment around me.
Congrats on the new training group gig! Good tips, got a couple buddies who are cross-eye dominant and they always have an adjustment period running various platforms and setups. Thankfully, there are some great left hand options for uppers, lowers, and accessories nowadays unlike 20 years ago.
I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with you on the bolt catch with your support hand sir. Your taking the only potential advantage of shooting left on a standard AR15 and throwing it out the window. Plus I have never once sent the bolt home before the mag is locked in but thats anecdotal.

Yeah absolutely. Ive always managed to make right handed stuff work for me, but life’s easier with dedicated controls.
