I had one who purposely grabbed my fingers- very gently- and it was very sweet but it was HER idea. If someone wants to they have to earn their trust and let them decide to do the touching
The claws aren’t what you have to look out for the teeth and their bite strength is what will rip you a new one.
They're technically ALL wild.
Thank you so much for mentioning the destruction they cause. I love raccoons and absolutely want one some day, but in all the other people I see who want them seemed to have decided based entirely on cute videos and don't know what they're really getting into, which could lead to a lot of abandoned animals...
I think in my cats past life he was a raccoon....he acts so much like a raccoon, he stand up like one, he play like one, he does this thing where when he plays with little bouncy balls he “washes them” *the motion when a raccoon is washing their food in water* it’s so....unique....

I have a pet raccoon that I rescued when he still had an Umbilical cord. I bottle fed him every two hours and carried him back and forth to work with me for seven weeks I need ideas on various toys that will stimulate his curiosity do you have any suggestions
Raccoons love to use their hands, especially to reach into holes and crevices and "wash" things. Definitely get things they can safely reach into, like those large balls with holes that have a smaller bell ball trapped inside, or anything they can reach in to pull stuff out of.
They like cat toys. I suggest anything that doesn't have feathers or a bunch of soft things because they will rip up that stuff quickly. My two favorite toy is a large hard plastic ball that they can reach in and get pieces of food out of.
Try an automatic ball/mouse toy for cats or a dog ball launcher
@@shollister3009 personality changes at 6 months is putting it lightly. If they aint fixed when they come in heat they will eat you up and destroy everything. They will go from being the sweetest thing in the world to completely crazy for a month back to sweet.
@@shollister3009 Well I have 2 girls and they do stay in an enclosure at night. They stay with me during the day in my shop or the house when they want to come out. Their enclosure is 10x10x8 foot with plenty of things to play and climb on. Mine are sisters and 3 years old this month. Raven (mine) is generally an a-hole and the one that will sometimes decide to stay in her house during the day. Sally (my son's) is the sweetheart that lives on my shoulder all the time.

Pregnant raccoons come out in the day to get food, I have feed 2. and they finally go away. Then they bring their babies back and then quit feeding them and them go off somewhere else like thay naturally would! I feed the family for a while and they were good. I am in Arkansas.

@@JessicaPradoHanson I put a heavy stand in front. He'll probably learn how to get around it too🥰 they are smart. Today he got the grapes while we were eating and had a great time tearing them off the stems, after he'd eaten his fill, such a helper!!!

I didn't really know what racoons were until I found your channel. Now I'm obsessed with them! It is illegal to own them in the UK since 2016, so even if I was able to give one proper care I wouldn't be able to fulfil my dream of owning one :'( but I love watching them and living vicariously through your videos!

Yep! Can confirm that "your guys' " is a northern equivalent to "y'all" although depending on various sub-populations even state by state and town by town, different versions of the third-person plural possessive exist and are used. Pretty cool to see how it changes so frequently when things like his, hers, theirs, ours, etc., do not change so readily (although mines for mine does happen, too!)...:)

They can tame down but remember it is still a wild animal and will act as such so i wouldnt suggest letting it climb on you

HA! This video made me happy because I'm currently fostering 4 baby wild raccoons. They have destroyed the spare room and the bathroom. They have tried to eat so many cords. One escaped into our AC duct system one night. A couple nights ago they flooded the bathroom. Everything you said in a brief 10 sec segment I have had to deal with. Still, worth it.
My first degree -French- didn’t pay me anything either except $100 proofreading a handful of phrases in a manuscript. I’m back to get a masters in psychology which is what I started out with decades ago

A veterinarian a long time ago told me when we had a puppy who loved to chew everything like most puppies. He said, “take some Tabasco sauce full strength or slightly diluted and put it on whatever you don’t want them to chew. He said, “it will burn her tongue slightly but do no permanent harm.” I have found it to work well with dogs cats and my former girlfriends raccoon. Keep the great videos coming! Love you guys

Not everyone has access to hot peppers and not if you put the tobacco on a paper towel.
Damages sound comparable to a puppy during teething. My puppies chewed our AC chord when they was in the yard unsupervised. That was their most expensive mess.
I had a Golden retriever that tore up many things, especially shoes. I had trouble getting his papers from the breeder and she told me to bring him back😂 right.. I said if I brought him back, you'd have to pay me his cost plus 800.00 for all the things he's chewed up. She got the papers!!!

Hey,so I got a story.. I am the dad of 3 baby raccoons orphaned in my back shed,I waited and watched to see if momma came back,I set up night vision camera for 2 days and nothing,there's a large fox running around as my back yard is surrounded by a large wildlife preserve with many critters,ive been feeding them every 2hrs from a small stainless baby bottle I bought at WalMart w/small nipples,found a rehabilitation channel to learn what to feed them..been making formula constantly as I don't know their exact age,but they have their teeth and are bigger than my hand to where they're arms and legs hang when laying in my hand,eyes opened since I found them.. I LOVE THEM SOO MUCH,I was going through a tough time when I found them(a divorce after 28yrs and raising 5 kids together),then I found them and they definitely have brightened up my life,I was depressed to the point I stopped going to work,stopped going out and living.. thats changed since I found them.. I take them down to the park,we all go on truck rides together and listen to music😅 they actually stare at me when I sing like "what the he!!'s this human doing" they've been sunshine back into my life.. little miracles of fur.. I am so very grateful for them in my life at this time,they were needed,they've been my blessing and healing,they make me laugh again at the things they do,soo human like
I have a 5 year old polydactyl cat right now and I love AmyJo but I love all animals especially the ones that a lot of people are skeptical or negative about. When I first moved to Midland, Texas, I saw a girl walking her pet Racoon and I have been fascinated by the animals since. I would so much like to have one of these animals one day. I agree with your video. It is best to start out with one when it’s young so it can learn and be part of you. I have watched a lot of raccoon and bear videos and love watching all these animals. I enjoyed the one where you took the raccoon to the pet store. Here is my question to you: When you take him to the pet store, do you let him pick out which toys and which foods he likes? I find the so cute and love able. Yes they’re curious. So are cats, dogs, and every other kind of animal. I have just subscribed. ❤

They could climb that in about 2 seconds! They are obsessed with heights. They do see TV and are aware of the sound's. Until they figure out mirrors, they're afraid of the reflection .

Not all states have raccoon-friendly laws. Even within states you find major differences in laws.
@@imajeanflynn8819 In italy raccoons are considered invasive species and they usually sterilize or kill them, but there are also natural reserves where they can live

I miss my little Dora holding my fingers and petting my hands. She is still in torpor. It wasn’t that expensive buying snacks for her and her siblings and friends. And other than chocolate and onions and similar they appreciate almost any leftovers.
Dora will not touch fig newtons and the others love them. Fat butt won’t eat peanut butter crackers but loves pop tarts. Doras whole litter won’t touch dog food and rarely touch hot dogs. Shadow likes hot dogs and so do her babies. I have to cater to everyone’s favorite cookies too

2 raccoons have lived under my porch for almost a year. They always ate the cats food. Then they started coming out and coming towards me. At first i was scared but, now they take food from me. One even licked my foot. They still go up in a tree but, they hear me and come running. I know mine aren't pets like yours but, is it crazy that they basically tamed themselves?

That was a few months ago and it's not our 1st but I'd love to chat with you about aggression/discipline. Willow is male I think. Having a hardtime.. she/he has a great life with us and can be soo sweet then he turns into a monster. My blood everywhere. How do you not get shredded?
