Buy yourself some friction drill bits and you can save some money on rivnuts. On a job like this it takes care of the initial hole and drifts the material inward to give you more material for purchase, then you just tap it to the fastener size you need and Bob's your uncle.
Dang. That might not be the greatest looking piece in the world, but you obviously learned a lot more about forming aluminum sheet. I'm sure the final product will fit and flow a lot better. Well done!

I was very impressed how you got the shape in the panel but I agree, the end result is simply hideous. Looking forward to a cleaner look. Keep up the good work mate.
Wow! Great practice indeed! With all due respect I think that the side panels in the tail section, deprive the bike of the sleek slim tail section we are used with cafe racers. Maybe putting the regulator on the bottom of the tail would help? Moreover, I know it is an electronic bike, but it would be nice if it could be stripped somehow down to basics. Don’t get me wrong, just pulling some thoughts of the top of my head!cant wait to see it finished!
Moonfleet41 I mean that in contrast to a late 80s early 90s Japanese bikes, it has a lot of wiring and supplemental parts like that regulator which I think make it difficult to hide in order to create that slim sleek cafe racer look
Sorry Del, I've finally had to pass comment on your workshop practices. I cant believe I haven't noticed before, you put the milk in first! Heathen! Hi buddy, just had chance to catch up over your last few videos, been really busy with work, everything looks absolutely fantastic, your getting a dab had with that English wheel, look forward to a visit in person early next year, hopefully Pen can email us some places to stop nearby, keep up the great work and videos, regards Stu
Hi Stu, that sounds cool mate, we still get over to Southampton Harley on the odd Sunday, but sure we can make a plan... drop Penny an email and she'll chat and make that plan happen!
Good morning delboy and penny from Rotorua , liking the idea and the vision brother, the ride on the weekend to Gisborne was awesome, keep up the awesome work my friend ride safe 🏍️👏👏👍👍
Glad to hear you had a great weekend Ben, always good to hear from you, and we both really appreciate your kind support, have a great rest of the week, D&Px
Instead of the two separate panel covers for the rectifier & solenoid, maybe fabricate one larger piece that will cover both, and you can incorporate some sort of flowing (swooping, or geometric) design into the cover piece. I think that having two covers will still give the appearance of pimples on that side panel. Just some food for thought.
You're becoming a dab hand with that English wheel mate , all this fabrication is simply brilliant to watch and I can see you're having a right laugh with it. Oh and I've learnt something with those rivnuts , never heard of 'em before but how cool are they! 👍
Well Del, your practice panel may not look the best but I think that you have done a great job, great design idea and your skills on the English wheel are improving all the time. I really like the idea of having Louvres in the reg/rec cover. Bring on the weekend.
Thanks Andy, since making this ive hit in a genius plan for the alloy bodywork, so the next video should be really cool... Have a great week mate, and thanks for your support.. Del.
I really enjoy the spontaneity your videos . You don't drone on watching every word in case the "experts" pick it apart , but you say what you feel and are not afraid to use "hacks" either .
Great video Del, like the spanner monkey wall transfers, where’s the Hossdog street fighter gone, was great seeing it at the beginning of each video, such an awesome bike. Ride safe, Del and Penny. From Russell in Essex.
Hey Russell, thanks for your kind words... I have to confess, I couldn't resist seeing the fighter sat there any longer, took it out for a ride and the last week or so, haven't been able to get off it! It's such ridiculous fun to play on... gotta MOT it this week, which means it's been on the road a year now... will be back soon mate, that is it's home!
I think the aluminium aircraft look will work well. Maybe look at pictures of planes like the dc2 if you can. I do feel that you have a rat rod style bike already and that the aluminium look will be far nicer not going with that style. The aluminium body is probably more suited to a cafe or faux vintage racer look (what if the hayabusa was built by a mad scientist in the 1930s?). You're getting nifty with that wheel too - I don't think I'd have the patience.
Del, are you sure the regulator is now correctly located? When riding I would expect your thigh would disrupt the airflow to the regulator. As regards the aluminium, there are various grades of aluminium available, with some being more malleable, I suggest you contact either the aluminium stockholders or indeed the bus body fabricators to find the correct grade. Land Rover used to use Birmabright for their bodies, which required annealing if it was worked too much and I know Supaform aluminium is used for architectural panels. Keep up the good work!
haha that made mu chuckle, the panel came indeed from a crashed bus, but was built in 1974, an old Bristol VR, so not so sure I'll have much luck finding that information... but got some new stuff on the way from the same supplier as the tail panel, just a little thinner, so should be easier to work! Thanks for your kind words, much appreciated.
Jeff Symons being a busy channel with many comments being made it was asked to be put there so a Patreon would stand out, therefore wouldn’t get missed without a reply.
What about (instead of a vent or leuvre at the back of the r/r) you could french some small tubes to let the air out? Maybe even brass tubes, would look a bit steam punk
Hi Del great idea to make a vented cover for your rectifyer, I know it's a practice piece but something about the look, it's such a shame that the frame you made is being covered, the frame looks mint I'd wanna show it off, but it's not finished and it's your ride and it's a million times better than I'd do, keep up the good work, cheers.. J👍👍
J, You're absolutely right mate.. thats why im not going to roll with this, i wanted to expose a bit more of the frame, so ill be making a separate stand along cover for the Rectifier, then some minimal metal just to mount it.. it will have to evolve and look right through every step.. thanks for the feedback mate.. its really valuable. have a good week. Del.
A bit of an overkill the work surrounding the rectifier in my opinion. Rectifiers need cooling but the also don't get very warm let alone hot. Within the tail it would have been ideal without the danger of overheating. But anyway a very nice job done.
I think i would have made it as one long scoop over both, maybe wider but lower in the front, and higher at middle then lowerit again and thin it out towards the end
Great vid I really look forward to seeing all of you videos and I'm looking forward to seeing the suzuki finished and love the intro music as well you have to tell me who these artists are

It doesn't need a jet stream mate, just a little air flow and that's exactly where it was placed by the factory and covered with a huge plastic panel... it doesn't get red hot, just warm!
Love the sub frame you made and the cafe racer pod ,be an awful shame to add side panels to cover up your work ,I'd seriously consider moving the rectifier to give it the rear end that cafe racer /streetfighter look ,cracking job though.👍
