The aircraft conversions are technically brilliant. However, how many people actually realize how incredibly dangerous an occupation flying fire bombers is? My most sincere thanks to the incredibly brave people that take on this very important role. For the most they are nameless and faceless to the majority of those benefiting from their skill and ability.
The Soviet Beriev Be-12 Chaika @ 08:33 shouldn't be confused with the Martin Mars. Sadly, they didn't even use a picture of a Mars flying boat, but instead used just about every other amphibious plane videos, all contradicting each other. Was this posted by a 5th-grader looking for extra credit?
Yes the few 4 Martin Mars were bought to be converted to water bombers, but they weren’t the original water bombers. The original waters bombers were the Catalinas, converted to water bombing post war and used by both Quebec and France as the first water bombers users in the world.
Many commercial passenger and freight aircraft have been, and are re-purposd for aerial firefighting, and companies in (for instance) Alberta and British Columbia have whole fleets of these land-based machines. The limitation(s) of many of these planes changes their usefulness for certain kinds of fires. Although it's now largely forgotten, a number of other float planes and seaplanes were modified and tried for water dropping, or scooping and dropping. One of the first was the DHC-2 Beaver on modified floats. Another was the WWII "Canso" or PBY amphibian - quite a number of those were converted. Lessons were learned from all of the aircraft that were tried in the firefighting role. The Canadair was purpose built, from the very first CL-215 and incorporated a great deal of this experience. This does not mean land planes are not useful, because they certainly are. But the ability to deliver water to the fire, how fast and how much is a big consideration on many fires, which is why companies like AirSpray operate several aircraft types in their firefighting fleet. My hat's off to every one of these teams, and their ingenuity, equipment and dedication to getting the fire under control.
Thank you & God bless you & your families. This sacrifice that you pilots & all crew make. I'm sure have saved many lives. We can't stop a lightning strike. But the idiotic people who start fire's don't deserve lenience of the law!
yet sooo many fires this year especially in Canada and California and where were this mighty airplanes? I have not seen a single one fighting fire in Canada!
EXACTLY!! In Mackenzie county Alberta alone we had over 600,000 hectares burn last summer and not ONE CL-415 or 515 was to be found! I just emailed my local wildfire office outside town and asked what the heck is going on… all of my favourite hunting area was burned to a flipping crisp last year. I am ANGRY. They allowed SO MANY fires to get out of control!
They never send enough of these to the larger fires. CARPET BOMB YOUR ENEMY! We are in a FIGHT with fire. Treat it as such and don't send only one or two of these planes, get some idle C-130s, C-17s and such, with bladders and a release system. Then send 16 of these to the fire. It takes ground personnel & resources too, but it would be much easier to get these fires out earlier as well, when they aren't so big and out of control. Would cost less than months-long fire fighting. 4 to 6 million compared to 30 million for a months-long fire here in 2020 (Pine Gulch Fire).
As a lover of aircrafts of all kinds and times, I could never not watch this wonderful video. And I live in a tiny country that all summers is hardly destroyed for wood criminal fires. Long ago, one of our former politicians bought a kit that allowed the Hercules C-130 to fight fires. It never went to service,as far as I know. Other interests and the lambs we are, all this permits some to make a good living ...
I think that is fair. The Canadair Cl-215 and it's later variants is also, as far as I know, the only aircraft ever built specifically for aerial firefighting.
Al fin Dios los. Bendiga por el trabajo que hacen no todo en la vida es. Perfecto pero ellos se. Arriesgan sus vidas. Por salvar otras vidas gracias 🙂 😊😊😊
Actually, I don't agree that they are risking their lives. The only firefighters that are risking their lives are those on the ground with their axes and showels. Many die. That's the question ❓❓❓ Why should there be any deaths at all???!!! Why can't ariel water bombing contain says 70 to 90% of the fire???!!!
AMAZING and COOL. we need a bunch of these a here in the West.🤔... we have a fantastic Helicopter for fire fighting also, the Erickson Air Crane built in Oregon...........they can pump water out of your backyard pool if needed😁.. yeh.... and blow you patio table over when they do that..
It is a pity that there are not more of the large 747 planes to fight fires. Imagine a fleet of say 15 to 20 of these jets, one after the other, should make short work of raging forrest fires.
The most efficient fire fighter aircraft is the Canadair. It is purpose built as a firefighter. It can scoop up water from almost any convenient place and can fly low and slow over the fire. Because it is prop driven it's takeoff run is very short and it's big wing area makes it very manoeuvrable. It can deliver more water in a day than any of the other aircraft you mention. 747s and DC 10s have an airport big enough to take them before returning to a fire while the CL 415 is working away. Not even the Beriev is as good as it.
I am curious as to the video mentioning the Martin Mars and yet the video showed other aircraft, but not any clips of the actual Martin Mars. That aircraft is still in existence, but has now been retired. It is a magnificent aircraft and truly a marvel. Perhaps a bit more research and attention to accuracy would be beneficial when the narrator discussed a specific aircraft, but showed other aircraft instead that most likely confuse someone who was not familiar with the aircraft mentioned. I see it as misinformation.
They should be using the Martin Mars water bombers there --unfortunately due to the SHORT SIGHTED STUPIDITY OF THE CANADIAN GOV . they are sitting on Vancouver island
The amphibious Water Bombers, like the CL 215, 415 and 515, (and the Russian amphibious jet powered monster) have much, much faster turn around times. They can reload from a nearby water source without stopping and be back on the fire within minutes- pretty much every other water bomber/air tanker has to return to a fairly well developed airport and refill via specialized equipment. Can easily take more than an hour or longer to deliver each load. They big boys are faster on route, and can deliver more water per drop - I guess each type has it's advantages. I'm in Northern Alberta (Canada) and we are currently dealing with the realities of major wildfires and limited resources...... (This video is pretty shitty... :)
Bigger does not always mean better. The closest you can get to the Fire the more Accurate you can Drop your load. If these big planes just drop their load from up way above it really wont matter how much water they are carrying.
When talking about the MARS, at least show pictures OF the MARS. smh Then you show the 747 when talking about the DC-10. AND, the 747 has been dismantled and the MARS, due to politics in Canada has effectively been retired, smh, what a waste of a resource.
Man this video is screwed up! Half the time they were talking about the DC-10 water tanker they were showing a 747 water tanker LOL it's like watching CNN or something it's so bad!
Pretty pointless subject. Here in British Columbia we had a sm fleet of Martin Mars water bombers their problem was finding big enough lakes so it could scoop up the water. Only ten or less lakes were deemed useable some just to far away from wildfires. So big is meaningless, a stupid video.
How 🤔 come we haven't got any more 😂😅I'm sure you can find a way to make more for our people in Canada 🇨🇦 because you are giving our money to other countries 😂😅and people in Canada 🇨🇦 😂😅is dieing 😂😅from smoke from forest fires 🔥 every day 😂😅why 🇨🇦 don't give our money away 😂😅we need water bombers 😂😅😂😅why 🇨🇦 why 🇨🇦 why 🇨🇦 😂😅

Martin Mars!!!! The best ever!!! 👍👍👍😉👍
When you talking about the Martin Mars you were showing video of the Be-12
Poor editing with showing a 747 while describing a DC-10

That's unexceptional AND Inappropriate!!
Forgot to mention the original Martin Mars bombers, though I do believer there are still two left in existence.
Yes, the Martin Mars water bomber I know and have seen many times resides on Vancouver Island B.C. It is the enormous Martin Mars "Hawaii".
Yes they are still housed at Sproat lake on Vancouver island.
the Martin mars are no longer in use.
Martin Mars held approximately 10.000 imperial gallons
Yes the few 4 Martin Mars were bought to be converted to water bombers, but they weren’t the original water bombers.
The original waters bombers were the Catalinas, converted to water bombing post war and used by both Quebec and France as the first water bombers users in the world.
Havaii Mars, but showing Be200, than Be12, than again Be200. DC10 but showing B447, and so on...

I somehow never imagined a Boeing 747 converted as a water bombing tanker before.
You need to get your narrative to match the images of the planes.
Yes, you are show us a Boeing 747 (800?), yet you are calling it a DC-10.
The two Coulson Bombers - Hawaii Mars or Philippine Mars could carry the II-76 on their back. The Mars carry 30 Canadian tons of water.
Grest video. Thank you !.
There is one you forgot. The four engine Martin Mars water bomber. Steven Sipes
watching planes is my biggest love
Port Alberni i miss Martin Mars Water Bomber

Wow, there are so many types of firefighting aircraft
The 515 carries and extra ton of water over the 415.
That is impressive… we need a couple up where I live at …

Just love those Canadairs
My cousins over in Louisiana need these right now!
Nice response
As a Canadian our planes work best for our terrain.
Probably the best, very useful and diverse
I think that is fair. The Canadair Cl-215 and it's later variants is also, as far as I know, the only aircraft ever built specifically for aerial firefighting.
Martin Mars?
*Amazing planes*
where was all of these on Maui
Very interesting.
I like the CL515 and the Martin
Wait till the end Lloyd.... they're coming up!!

Missed out Convair CV 580 operated by Kelowna
They needed one of these on Maui.
Your video frequently isn't showing the aircraft being commented on: eg: ; 747 identified as DC-10

Isnt the Martin mars water bomber 10,000 gallons?
Footage of the Mars is entirely all wrong.
You forgot the Chinese AG600M but that makes sense with how many errors are in this video.

You screwed up the editing on the DC-10 and 747. Pretty blatant error.
Mars is the largest.
Why no pictures of the Mars or the inclusion of the Fire Boss.
Maezinng good 👍👍❤️
Wooow increíble
Impresionante 😲
We need a C17 water bomber.
How could you leave out the greatest water bomber of them all, the Martin Mars
That's what I thought. Low speed, fast refill. The most effective waterbomber out there !
Or a coverted Berijew Be-42. That would be useful as well.
nice large 747 planes to fight fires *****
L-188 has left the chat.
The Fires in BC...are so large that the biggest planes are useless .
It's like spitting on a Bonfire.
They should be using the Martin Mars water bombers there --unfortunately due to the SHORT SIGHTED STUPIDITY OF THE CANADIAN GOV . they are sitting on Vancouver island
@@paulshaw5119 EXACTLY
Where is Antonov An-32P "FireKiller"?
The Viking Canadair 515 is not the largest water bomber in the world. In the US there are DC10 and 747 water bombers which are much larger.

@@robertpardell6924 Well, it's pretty much out of sync toward the end.
Wildfire can be put off by water bombing not by spraying water. True or false..?

Martin Mars DID get closer but as someone pointed out they are not in service .
Can water bombing from great heights relieve non-fire related haze during a dry spell ???!!!
Wonder how many fish they pick up
None...!!!
Be nice i they didn't mix footage of different kinds of planes while talking about one plane. The DC-10 morphed into the 747 it looks like.
You talk about the Martin mars but show a modern jet ...do your research
Hrvatski kanaderi ponos Hrvatske❤🇭🇷
But are they the best value for money when it comes to fighting fires or purely political and media driven? Many studies have shown the later.
Bien
Where is the Japanese ShinMaywa US-2!
why aren't we seeing this in Canada?

Jeeze, you talk about the Martin Mars and still show the russian tanker. Then you talk about the DC10 and show the 747 more than the 10????
Something wrong huge first plane 11000 gals I think next tiny plane 5000 gals
747

It's a very poor video with almost the same gushing comments for every plane.

Wow, the editing kinda fell apart.
