Nina was house sitting. Remember in the record store when she wrote the check Sheila asked her is this your new address and she said yes. She hand wrote that new address.
As a filmmaker myself I can definitely appreciate this show. Keep em coming. The back and forth on this reminds me of Men On Film form In Living Color minus the flamboyance. Dope shit
Man, so entertaining fellas!! Love Jones will forever be CLASSIC. Shout out to my big bro Tony Price and my man Bigg Jah!! I’m tuning in every week. 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
I enjoyed this podcast immensely. I would love to contribute a woman's (and a spoken word poet's) perspective when this film comes back around, Jah. :-)
This is my Love Jones reimagined/updated recasting. I think table readings with this mix of people would yield a really SOLID cast. Darius: Shemiek Moore/ Mack Wilds Nina: Dewanda Wise/ Afton Williamson/ Tika Sumpter Sheila: Keke Palmer Wood: Trevor Jackson Savin: LaKeith Stansfield/ Kofi Siriboe Josie: Taylor Paige Eddie: Kendrick Sampson Marvin: Jacob Lattimore / John David Washington
Great breakdown. I honestly think that if Pac would've been alive in 97 that he could've played a great Darius. He had the look, stature, charisma, and the voice. Pac actually wrote poetry too so I'm sure he would've been great.
Y’all definitely gotta have a VIEWER SUGGESTION segment… Man I worked at BLOCKBUSTER video and Music…BEST JOBS I ever had!!! Just an idea, what If you had a LATE FEE LIST-Films you would keep a day over and pay the fee because it’s that good?
That’s a great idea . When you worked at blockbuster back in the day what was a film the was constantly getting a late fee attached to it because folks would keep it for one more day.
I really appreciate how you guys unpacked this outstanding gem. 🤜🏾🤜🏾🤜🏾🤜🏾🤜🏾. What about Sanaa Lathan as Nina in the reboot? I’m still thinking about Daris, Jose, Savaughn, Sheila, and Wood🤨🤔
This was excellent. Y’all had me completely engaged. “He tryna get deep in them draws” ⚰️ I feel like their lack of maturity and communication is what killed their relationship/situationship. Yeah the “if then” is poison especially when asking for advice from someone who isn’t in a relationship 😂. Nina didn’t owe Darius an explanation. I wouldn’t have said anything, that would’ve only complicated an already delicate and enigmafied situation. Naaah I disagree. “You always want what you want when you want it”. Nina was correct. Darius wanted it immediately was, ready to jump in head first, and she wasn’t ready but his persistence peaked her curiosity to feel loved. Marvin was a spoiled 🤡 😂😂😂. He got the toasted oats tho 😂😂😂. YO! Raise up off Nina, she was transitioning 😂. Talknbout that wasn’t her place lmao. Nina won the movie for sure. “Darius drug her down, had her smoking cigarettes” took me out 🤣🤣🤣. 😽 is 🔥 lol! I. HATE. Wood. 😑. Nina was terrible for giving him the time of day 😒. He was a bitch 😂. Nina did not know Wood was a 🍆. Nina was into Darius. It was a different vibe. Wood was a space filler, she was never gonna smash Wood. Her going back to NY to see what was up with Marvin was for closure. It’s plausible she didn’t smash him 🤷🏽♀️. I’m Sheila in a lot of instances. A woman but still the Bro. I almost choked on my water “like Luther’s curl” 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Yeah. Don’t recast. Love Jones shouldn’t ever be touched. It was cast perfectly. We were waiting for the “pause” after the Morris Chestnut comment 🤣🤣🤣. Excellent question!! “Were they tho?” Were Darius & Wood really friends? I don’t believe they were. Right!! How did Wood become a crew member?? He’s terrible 😒. Soundtrack was 🔥🔥🔥 👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽 FOR SURE!
"Black movies sit with us differently!" Black cinema is a lifelong love affair. We quote them in our conversations, they influence our vocabulary-the way we interact-the way we move! As far as #lovejones goes, 5 Black Fists fo'shoi! #blackfilms #blackbusterspodcast
This was an amazing episode wow , I’m about to go watch love Jones again with a different perspective because I hated it but loved it visually , I’m going to see if my feeling about it changes but this is a great great break down 👏☺️
Nina was an exceptional photographer. The photos displayed at the top of the film were shot by Nina! Furthermore, Lisa Nicole Carson is an incredible actress. Love Jones gets 5 👊
This so dope... and yea we cling to cinema and music in deep way I personal believe cause we were cut off from our original customs language and rights of passage
They where right for each other because of the poem. She understood him if it goes over her head then no movie. But let’s not pretend that girls fall in love with rappers they just don’t always get to meet them.
I don't think Nina was actually housesitting because the scene where Darius had to sleep downstairs and Nina upstairs was way after the Wood incident--it was the same place from when Darius showed up at her place unannounced.
Poetry lounges existed long before Love Jones but they weren't popular amongst the Black community. Ever heard of Beatniks? They've been getting down since the 1950s-60s. Wearing all black, a beret, a goatee with no mustache... smoking cigarettes, listening to spoken word poetry over slow jazz, and snapping fingers. All comes from the beatnik poetry movement of the mid-20th Century.
Love Jones is timeless. Well, D's leather jacket and slam poetry nights wasn't, but that's beside the point. It's about potential great love opportunities going toxic when friends get involved. Add in the fire soundtrack, and it should be more than just a cult classic, or just a Blassic.
This is another movie i would love to see coverted into a series like The Best Man Final Chapters. Can we please get reviews on the following movies that Larenz Tate & Nia Long has been in: The Inkwell Friday Dead Presidents Why Do Fools Fall In Love In Too Deep Big Momma’s House Biker Boyz Waist Deep Fatal Affair You People
Yo, someone needs to do a perfect remake of Love Jones. It's definitely a classic. Also, we need a remake of another classic and that's Menace To Society. Both remakes if done need to be on point.
5 fists hands down my top 5 movie of all-time, still the undisputed greatest soundtrack ever..the movie was way ahead of it's time dope cast dope content you guys broke that down to a science and I think Wood was hatin on Darius because in Darius case he didn't have to do to much to get a woman I felt Wood was threatened because he's use to getting all the women but y'all should have mentioned the fact that he was driving a Cadillac hearse 😂 but you guys did an excellent job and yes Josie was an example of how a single lonely woman can always mess up a situation.
you can't compare movies from yesterdays era to the movies of today's era, because back in the day there was not a lot of content available and there was not a lot of resources to view movies as it is today. Because of this reason we would watch a movie 100x over and over again because that's all we had, but nowadays there is so much content available we rarely give a movie a 2nd look. when was the last time u watched a movie that was so good u watched it again??
Fellas, I love this movie however Nia, turning around after she left the record store wasn’t I hope you chase me but more like I hope you don’t n he did just that got her address from the check. Darius was trippin - it’s not cute it’s scary .
The lady in the record store should be in jail! How you out here giving up personal information! I could see if she gave Darius a phone number. But the address is WILD to me then he pulled up on her!! That’s red flags before the relationship got started!
Jamie Foxx could have definitely played Darius Lovehall in 1997. He would have brought some comedy to it but him and Bill Bellamy might very been entertaining.
Love Jones soundtrack was/is everything!!!!!
How am I just now seeing this!! Let’s go
Great review, love it. As for Darius finding Nina's address, remember Sheila gave it to him from the check she wrote at the record store.
Tony Price had a crazy podcast way back when. Was definitely just "before it's time". Glad to see him back in the podcast space.
Y'all better come with all the real about this here movie. Great way to start this stuff off.
Lawrence Tate embodied the essence of an artist in his prime. He's confident, all over the place, insecure and creative all at once.
Can’t do big Tone
I hate Fucc niggahs
Love the podcast

I’m really feeling this podcast !!! Y’all definitely came with it on the first shot. Gonna watch the others.
My top 3 favorite films of all-time
As a filmmaker myself I can definitely appreciate this show. Keep em coming. The back and forth on this reminds me of Men On Film form In Living Color minus the flamboyance. Dope shit
Lisa Nicole Carson and Nia Long look real good in this movie.
Man, so entertaining fellas!! Love Jones will forever be CLASSIC. Shout out to my big bro Tony Price and my man Bigg Jah!! I’m tuning in every week. 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
I love this!!! Been thinking that someone had to do this and I’m glad it’s you Bigg Jah!!!
Oh yall working working! We here for it! 💪🏾

Oh yall Real as Rain!! Love this Bruh!! This is what I've been looking for!!!!
I enjoyed this podcast immensely. I would love to contribute a woman's (and a spoken word poet's) perspective when this film comes back around, Jah. :-)
Yall have to do an interview with my girl Lisa Yaro.
This is my Love Jones reimagined/updated recasting.
I think table readings with this mix of people would yield a really SOLID cast.
Darius: Shemiek Moore/ Mack Wilds
Nina: Dewanda Wise/ Afton Williamson/ Tika Sumpter
Sheila: Keke Palmer
Wood: Trevor Jackson
Savin: LaKeith Stansfield/ Kofi Siriboe
Josie: Taylor Paige
Eddie: Kendrick Sampson
Marvin: Jacob Lattimore / John David Washington
That’s a fire recast !!!
They need to just take that cast you put together there and write something new and dope for them lol
The movie is about "The mysticism of falling in love" its not about a relationship. That's why there's not details about the relationship.
Nothing less than ✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿 Love Jones was the shit!
This is a perfect vehicle and project for you lil Bro.
O shit dis gone b lit bro hope u drop a episode once a week fr if errr thing go smooth
I enjoyed getting the male perspective on this film. Nice work! ♥️✌🏽✊🏽
Great breakdown. I honestly think that if Pac would've been alive in 97 that he could've played a great Darius. He had the look, stature, charisma, and the voice. Pac actually wrote poetry too so I'm sure he would've been great.

Just an idea, what If you had a LATE FEE LIST-Films you would keep a day over and pay the fee because it’s that good?
I’ve started making my list already🤣
That’s a great idea . When you worked at blockbuster back in the day what was a film the was constantly getting a late fee attached to it because folks would keep it for one more day.
I hope you go further back than the 90s talk about films like shaft, jd revenge ,truck turner, etc
Great episode. Big Jah be on the movies.
I really appreciate how you guys unpacked this outstanding gem. 🤜🏾🤜🏾🤜🏾🤜🏾🤜🏾. What about Sanaa Lathan as Nina in the reboot? I’m still thinking about Daris, Jose, Savaughn, Sheila, and Wood🤨🤔

Shiela has to be the MVP of the movie if she didn’t give darius the check with nina’s address who knows if he would’ve saw her again
Class of 1997!

Gugu Mbatha-Raw would be perfect recast as Nina
Yeah she would
Yo, someone needs to do a perfect remake of Love Jones. It's definitely a classic. Also, we need a remake of another classic and that's Menace To Society. Both remakes if done need to be on point.

lol they was a toxic ass couple man
If remade today, almost everyone from the "Grownish" cast could EASILY do a remake.

Yo I thought black busters was a porn
recasting Darius's character...Mekhi Phifer
This is my favorite movie of all time
