      Add an event controller to it as well, monitoring the refineries storage. Open all valves (so to speak) if they go empty.

    6:00 If only I had seen this when I was first designing my mothership. It took me FOREVER to troubleshoot why my refineries were mixing. I kept picturing my idealized, linear flow, and failed to compute potential through and back-flow of raw ore through my "ingot lines."

    • @KiltedBastard
      @KiltedBastard  11 днів тому

      Yeah I wish refineries had dedicated input and output, but I can see why they did it the way that they did. but that back flow will get you every time.

    My current base setup for my main factory is similar to the setup at 8:00, only, I use 3 sets of 4 refineries (so 12 total), where ty he first 4 only focus on iron and nickel, where it prefer 3 speed and 1 yield. The next 4 does co, mg, and si, where it will either do 3 speed and a yield, or power efficiency (since you never need a TON of any of those, but they take a while me to process either way, I'm leaning towards power efficiencyto not drain to much over time with the high speed). The last 4 does au, ag, it, and ur with 2 speed and 2 yield. I have all 3 sets in a square grid with a 4x2 stack of H2 tanks for fuel storage in a nice big factory room.
    All sorted and automatic. Since none of the setups do more than 4 different items, you could still do at least 1 of each ore simultaneously- but I'll have to split it manually since I'm too lazy to get that detailed with it

    Awesome video! Just wanted to add something: I really like compact ship and base builds, so while the basic refinery isn't power efficient, I'd never say its useless, since its way smaller, thus, lets you build small vessels while still having the capacity to refine some ores :).

    yield module is the only module

      Would definitely argue speed is superior at least in early game with iron. You'll never have problems getting tons of iron but I'm always waiting on steel plates or tubes lol

      @@ScarryHarry93 If you have unlimited power during said early game that is... 1 speed module is the same as adding another Refinery based on speed and power. If you have access to gold better to make yield modules and get double the resources for the same power cost on 1 refinery.

    • @ScarryHarry93
      @ScarryHarry93 14 днів тому

      @@AbelRamirezII You missed the point then, especially for the early game mention - the speed module is vastly cheaper than another refinery - so much so, that you could put all 4 speed modules on and still only use 1/3rd of the steel plates as another refinery. 1/3 the cost of a SINGLE refinery for modules that make the equivalent of 4 refineries, And if you are processing faster, your only real concern is to keep mining (which even with speed modules, gold and silver and other high end ores take a much longer time to go through, so there's not much downtime unless you're traveling 10+ km for ore.)
      I say again, speed module is superior and worth putting on immediately. If power is a concern, make more than just 1 or 2 batteries. Power cells are heavy/large, but not expensive. Additional refineries and yeild modules are significantly more expensive in early game, but it's easy enough to add some yeild later on or when making a better facory once components are stockpiled

    • @jonasstahl9826
      @jonasstahl9826 6 днів тому

      @@ScarryHarry93 I call BS on that a refinery with no modules makes 65k of iron per hour. An assembler on steelplates needs 75k iron running nonstop. Producing Large Tubes only 54k per hour.
      Unless you produce steel plates nonstop a refinery will produce more iron than the assampler can consume.
      One yield module and the refinery will always outperform an assembler.

    About the only thing i make sure of is that i have a refinery with 3-4 Speed modules on my mining vessel, set to only process Stone. I don't like dumping Stone, but i do want it out of the way as much as possible.

    On my large space station I’ve added a rout for stone to go through to a decent amount of basic refineries solely for stone
    And the last ones pretty cool and fun, it’s like a “focus mode”!!

    Hi I'm not great with the automation. I was wondering if you could explain how you set up the Last set up with the timer blocks and buttons

    • @KiltedBastard
      @KiltedBastard  Місяць тому

      Buttons and Timers for Control:
      Button Restore Default: Resets the system by triggering the “Timer Block: Default.”
      Timer Block: Default - With a 60-minute delay, it reactivates the default sorter to allow all ores except the prioritized resource (e.g., iron) to flow, disabling the iron sorter.
      Button Iron: Initiates iron processing by triggering the "Timer Block: Iron."
      Timer Block: Iron - Activates the iron sorter, deactivates the default sorter, and starts a countdown to revert to the default configuration.
      Ore Intake and Sorting:
      Ore Intake: Ores enter via a connector and are directed to Ore Storage.
      Sorters:
      Sorter Default - Allows all ores except the prioritized resource to flow to the refineries when active.
      Sorter Iron - Whitelists only iron ore, allowing it to pass when activated.
      Sorter Ingots - Set to whitelist only ingots, ensuring refined materials are directed to Ingot Storage.
      Clean Out Function:
      Button Clean Out: Triggers the “Timer: Clean Out on,” initiating the clean-out process.
      Timer: Clean Out on - Activates the Sorter: Clean Out to remove all ores from Ore Storage, draining them when necessary. It also starts a secondary timer to turn off the clean-out process after 30 seconds.
      Timer Clean Out Off - After a 30-second delay, deactivates the clean-out sorter, returning the system to its normal sorting configuration.
      Sorter Clean Out - Configured to drain all ores when active, helping to empty ore storage during a clean-out.
      Ore Processing:
      Ore Storage directs ores to the Refineries based on the active sorter:
      Prioritized Resource (e.g., Iron) flows to the refineries when its sorter is active.
      Other ores flow through the refineries when the default sorter is active.
      Ingot Storage:
      Refined materials are stored in Ingot Storage after processing in the Refineries, with only ingots allowed to pass via the Sorter Ingots.
      This system’s modular design allows for adding similar sorters and timers for additional resources. Replace "Iron" with the desired material, and the system can process each type of ore independently. The "Clean Out" function is a flexible addition that can quickly clear out storage when needed.
      I hope this helps.

    i still have very old save where i build my base into asteroid; i first had refinnery for every ore; all connected intput and output filters, all connected to main logistic system and storages. later i added had 8 refinneries for every ore; all controlled by similar filters.
    only issue was that ore was distributed very unevenly in expanded version., but everything was done. with that many refinneries i just went with yield modules, speed was just concern of adding more refinneries.

    Ive discovered i like a dual refinery setup, with sorters in and out on both, one refinery has all speed modules and the sorters only allow fe si ni co and stone, the other has all yield and refines all the higher value ore, i usually just eat the power cost, i love those speed and yields too much

      @KiltedBastard  4 місяці тому

      Yeah, that is my go, too set up. The switching one is novel, and it may work with ores that you need to prioritize (such as one for magnesium and uranium). You could add that into an existing system.

    I like your 4 refinery setup, only thing id change is to add like 4 basic refinerys down the open middle of them with sorters on both ends to force only stone through them. Tbh though I usually just use Isy's Inventory Manager script.

    • @KiltedBastard
      @KiltedBastard  4 місяці тому +1

      So I've actually run the four with isy's manager. It works fairly well, and since it balances and cycles through the ore, it makes this system way more efficient.

    Another thing that I have been having trouble with it the speed of the ore feeding into the refinery, with all speed modules, sometimes the intake of OREs is not fast enough. Is there a limit in wich the sorter can "push" ores into the refinery?
    I use some module mods where each speed module is x16.
    Where I don't have that issue is with the assemblers, they love speed modules.

    • @strixfiremind

      Interesting problem, perhaps use a Small Cargo Container as a buffer point? If the sorters are limiting it that will show you right away I'd think.
      Perhaps some creative testing may be necessary.
      Edit: further research and testing says it is the sorter that will be your problem, they are limited - use more sorters to solve the issue is the easy fix.

    Hi, I am highly interested in your last method, I build VERY large motherships and I want to streamline the process (by choice)
    I don't do event controllers but if you can do one for a specific ore and one for cleaning it (next to the L cargo container) I can set up the rest.
    I could then make a video showing your set-up on my ship.
    Thanks.

      @@oscargaming7582 sorters. I set my refineries up so a sorter pulls ore into the refineries, isolates the refineries so only certain ores go in each refinery, and then other sorters pull the ingots out to the assemblers. It takes a bit to set up but keeps you from having to manually shuffle if cobalt or something is blocking iron. It's also slightly more spacious, but I don't think that's a huge issue for most people.

    Honestly? I put refineries in all my mining stations that specifically deal with the stone and ore on site. the material you get from it is generally worth the effort, but actually transporting it anywhere is pointless. Why would you waste valuable cargo space on fricken rocks instead of the actual ingots your after and an occasional mixed ingot shipment? in fact, pretty much the only thing i'm willing to ship in it's just pulled out of the drill form is ice.

    Once youre up to the refinery basic refinery is useless.
    Never use power efficiency mods total junk. Yeild mods are a trap and will slow your rate of production down from 500% to 180% per min. Speed mods are the only one worth using and are a must.
    Dedicated refinery per ore is a trap just like high vs low sorting. Use a 3 sorter node system and include an overflow. Ie have one that prevents cobalt, one that only allows iron, 1 only stone, etc as needed but use the third sorter to allow everything in if its dedicated ore isnt present.
    If youre having power issues use large reactor and no chance youre running low on power for an industrial complex.
    That timer block system seems like you have a bunch if mistakes in your logistics prior to this step.
